There is provided a computer-implemented method for determining rotation of a patient's chest in a medical image. The method comprises: receiving the medical image of the patient; processing the medical image to determine scapular spatial data relating to the patient's scapula; and determining rotation of the patient's chest with respect to at least one reference axis using the scapular spatial data.

Determining rotation of a patient's chest in a medical image

An apparatus and related method for supporting X-ray imaging. The apparatus comprises an input interface (IN) for receiving an X-radiation scatter measurement obtained by an X-ray sensor (SX) during operation of an X-ray imager (XI) for imaging a first object (PAT). A predictor component (PC) is configured to predict, based on said measurement, whether or not: i) a second object (P) is present, or ii) there is sufficient X-ray exposure of said first object (PAT). The apparatus comprises an output interface (OUT) for outputting a predictor signal indicative of an outcome of said prediction.

Scattered X-ray detection to detect misuse and prevent harm

An apparatus (M) and related method for supporting X-ray imaging. The apparatus comprises an input interface (IN) for receiving a request to perform an X-ray exposure with an X-ray source (XR) of an X-ray imager (XI) to image an object (PAT). A compliance checker (CC) of the apparatus (M) is configured to check said request against an imaging safety protocol for said object to produce a safety compliance result. A safety enforcer (SE) of the apparatus is configured to issue, based on the safety compliance result, i) an alert signal and/or ii) a control signal to initiate a safety action that at least affect an impact of the requested X-ray exposure on the object.

X-ray misuse protection

The quality of thoracic X-rays is depends on the inspiration state of an imaged patient. If the lungs of a patient are not significantly inflated during a thoracic X-ray, tissue from surrounding organs can cause the image to become cloudier, and the lung parenchyma is not effectively shown. Thus, there is a reliance on a medical professional to ensure that the patient is in an appropriate posture and inspiration state at the point of image exposure. This can be difficult with patients suffering from chronic conditions, though. Therefore, this application discusses a means to assess the inspiration state using the position of rib bones, and the diaphragm line in the X-ray image. Thus, an accurate estimate of inspiration state can automatically be reported to a medical professional, before a patient leaves the examination room, allowing an X-ray to be retaken, if necessary.

X-ray image inhalation quality monitoring

A non-transitory storage medium stores an assembled genetic sequence comprising aligned sequencing reads. An electronic processing device is configured to perform operations including: identifying a possible variant in the assembled genetic sequence; computing value of at least one read property for reads of the assembled genetic sequence; and calling the possible variant conditional upon the computed values of the at least one read property for sequencing reads of the assembled genetic sequence that include the possible variant satisfying an acceptance criterion. The electronic processing device may be further configured to select at least one region of the assembled genetic sequence for validation based on a non random selection criterion.
