An apparatus for reactive power compensation in an ac medium voltage power network. The apparatus includes a common connection; a first branch including a first switch, and a first capacitor; and a second branch including a second switch and a second capacitor.

Electric power flow control

A power capacitor for high voltage and including at least one capacitor element that has improved electrical properties and that allows simple manufacture. Each capacitor element has a substantially circular-cylindrical shape. The inside of the container has a corresponding shape to closely surround each capacitor element. In addition, each capacitor element is oriented with the axial direction coinciding with the axial direction of the container. A capacitor bank includes a plurality of the power capacitors, and uses of one or more of the invented power capacitors can be used as a component in electrical installations.

Power capacitor

A fault current limiter according to the invention comprises a contact device (K) to the contacts of which is connected a resistor/inductor combination comprising a series connection of a first (R1) and a second (R2) resistor as well as a third resistor/inductor (R3) connected in parallel with the series-connected resistors. The second resistor consists of a resistor with superconducting properties, dimensioned such that the change from superconducting to normally-conducting state occurs when the critical current density of the resistor is attained.
