A wireless mobile communication device may include a transmitter configured to wirelessly transmit MMS messages over a wireless network communication system. The device may also include a plurality of user applications. Each user application may be of a different type and configured to generate content for an MMS message based on input to the wireless mobile communication device. The mobile communication device may include an MMS client configured to generate MMS messages based on content supplied by the user applications. The MMS client may be configured to generate a value for a field of information within each MMS message that is indicative of the type of user application which supplies content for the MMS message. The value may be different for each different type of user application.

In response to a location assistance request initiated by a mobile device on a private network and directed to a data access port of a location server in a public mobile communication network, a source network address is extracted from the received request. If the extracted source network address is determined to be associated with a trusted private network domain, location assistance data obtained by the location server is provided to the mobile device on the private network without requiring any proprietary messaging schemes or application-specific authentication credentials.

In a mobile communication network that does not support simultaneous data communication during an active voice call of a mobile station, location information of the mobile station is obtained from a positioning server on the mobile communication network using mobile messaging service type messages as a transport bearer between the mobile station and the mobile communication network. A mobile messaging service message from the mobile station includes information regarding one or more nearby WiFi access points and/or cellular base stations detected by the mobile station. The location of the mobile station is determined by the positioning server, and the results are sent to the mobile station via a responsive mobile messaging service message including the determined location, during the active voice call, for use by an application program running on the mobile station.

Using mobile messaging service message(s) as bearer for location related communications during voice call

A user initiates a request for determination of position of a mobile device in an area where there is no GPS signal. The position of the mobile device is determined by using cell tower triangulation methods using the wireless operator network. If the mobile device is in communication with a wireless local area network access point, the mobile device provides information about the address of the wireless local area network access points within range and the signal strength of the wireless access points. The server then stores the determined position in a database in connection with each address and signal strength provided by the wireless local area network access point. Thus the position of the wireless local area network access point has now been recorded and can be used in the future to determine the position of a mobile device.

Automated method to determine position of Wi-Fi access point to enable location based services

A method includes receiving, at a carrier network provider, a request from a requestor's mobile device to locate an instant messaging (IM) friend from the requestor's IM friends list; authenticating the request for use of location-based services on the carrier network; receiving geographic location coordinates from the requestor's mobile device; adding random error to the geographic location coordinates; sending the request to locate an IM friend and the geographic location coordinates with random error to an IM portal; receiving a list of the requestor's IM friends within a particular region near the geographic location coordinates with random error; and sending to the requestor's mobile device the list of IM friends within the particular region near the geographic location coordinates with random error.

A method for a client and server based messaging system efficiently exchanges messages over an IP connection in a wireless network. Also included is an automated method by which a messaging client can request intelligent and efficient presence updates from the wireless network by utilizing timers and adapt such timers based on load conditions in the wireless network.

Techniques and equipment are provided to allow Multimedia Message Service (MMS) communication between applications on a platform on a mobile station and third party websites or web servers by using a hybridized architectural design of MMS and BREW services. The following communications are provided: communication from a BREW application on a first mobile station to a BREW application on a second mobile station, communication from a BREW application on a mobile station to an application server or website, and communication from an application server or website to a BREW application on a mobile station.

MMS brew message delivery hybridization architecture

A method for offloads SMS messages from a voice network of a wireless carrier to a data network. The method includes sending a mobile originated SMS using hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP) from a wireless handset to a short message service center (SMSC) over a wireless data network. The method further includes conducting a lookup at the SMSC to determine the home SMSC for the originating mobile handset and sending a redirect to the mobile handset as means to facilitate a dynamic update of the home SMSC location stored on the wireless handset.

Mobile originated SMS over a wireless IP network

A disclosed enterprise instant messaging (IM) service aggregator enables validation of mobile stations and/or users for enterprise IM service through a wireless communication network; and in the examples, the enterprise IM service provides a secure messaging environment that allows IM traffic to/from wireless mobile stations. The security offered may be unique to and controlled by each enterprise, for example, by enabling each enterprise to generate its own encryption key for distribution through the aggregator and by allowing mobile stations to generate their own keys for distribution back through the aggregator to the enterprise IM servers. As disclosed, the login credentials are encrypted from the mobile station to the enterprise IM server. The use of standard encryption methods within the call flows allows a simple method of ensuring that only authorized users can access the enterprise servers and that the messages will be encrypted by the strongest possible means.
