Blend door assembly for climate control systems

A rotary temperature control system for use in controlling the temperature of a blended air stream supplied to a vehicle passenger compartment is combined with a rotary ventilation mode control system in a common housing. The ventilation mode and temperature control systems include manually operable rotary control knobs operatively connected through pull-pull cable systems to gears in the housing that operate a temperature blend door controlling the output temperature of a blended air stream and one or more vent dampers controlling the ventilation mode of the system. A drive connection in the housing includes irregularly shaped gears for producing a predetermined generally non-linear relationship between rotary movement of an input control member and rotary movement of the temperature blend door to produce a generally linear relationship between the rotary movement of the temperature control knob and the temperature of the air stream throughout a major portion of the rotary movement of the control knob.

Integrated ventilation mode and temperature control system for vehicles

A rotary temperature control system for use in controlling the temperature of a blended air stream supplied to a vehicle passenger compartment includes a manually operable rotary control knob operatively connected with a control pulley that is, in turn, connected through a pull-pull cable system to a vent pulley. The vent pulley operates a blend door that controls the output temperature of a blended air stream. A drive connection between the vent pulley and a drive shaft of the blend door includes non-circular gears for producing a predetermined generally non-linear relationship between rotary movement of the control pulley and rotary movement of the output shaft to produce a generally linear relationship between the rotary movement of the control pulley and the temperature of the air stream throughout a major portion of the rotary movement of the control pulley.

Variable temperature control system for vehicles

A sealing apparatus for a heat exchanger used in an automotive vehicle is disclosed. The seal apparatus includes a closed loop of rigid material (29), the loop defining four substantially orthogonal edges (28, 30, 32, 34) configured to contact the respective sides of the heat exchanger (12). A sealing member (27) of soft material is attached to an outer face (21) of the closed loop and adapted to sealingly engage walls of a housing containing the heat exchanger. The loop includes a plurality of locating pins (38) integrally formed in the closed loop for located and retaining the sealing apparatus in a predetermined relationship with the heat exchanger.

Heat exchanger seal apparatus

An integral center-mounted airhandling system includes a pair of blowers (211), an evaporator core (260), and a heater core (262) located within the center of the vehicle such that the vehicle can be readily adapted for left-side or right-side steering mechanisms. The blowers (211), evaporator core (260), and heater core (262) are preferably incorporated within a single, one-piece housing (213) so as to reduce materials, manufacturing, and assembling costs. The dual blowers (211) provide completely independent two zone operational and temperature control for the driver and passenger sides of the vehicle, as well as operational redundancy and conservation of electrical power within electrically powered vehicles. The instrument panel duct assembly (218) is fabricated from a carbon composite material so as to also serve as a structural cross-beam within the vehicle thereby eliminating the need for separate structural cross-beam structure which also reduces materials, fabrication, and assembly costs for the vehicle, as well as the overall weight of the vehicle.

A rotary temperature control device which includes a vent pulley, a control pulley having a bevel gear associated therewith, a flexible cable which extends from the control pulley to the vent pulley and a shaft having a pinion gear associated therewith for driving the bevel gear, thus providing rotational movement to the vent pulley. The cable preferably has first and second ends and an intermediate portion therebetween which defines first and second segments, wherein the first and second ends are secured to the vent pulley while the intermediate portion is secured to the control pulley.
