A method of making a lithium alkylsiliconate composition comprising adding an alkylalkoxysilane to a first mixture comprising lithium hydroxide and water to form a second mixture comprising a lithium alkylsiliconate and an alcohol, wherein i) the mole ratio of lithium hydroxide to alkylalkoxysilane is from 0.9 to less than 1.1 and the water is from 89 to 93 mol %, or ii) the mole ratio of lithium hydroxide to alkylalkoxysilane is from 1.1 to 1.4 and the water is from greater than 93 to 99 mole %.

Lithium alkylsiliconate composition, coating, and method of making same

A method of making a diakyl-, diaryl-, or alkylaryl-dihalosilane in a Grignard coupling reaction with a high degree of selectivity is provided. More specifically, a Grignard reagent comprising an alkyl- or aryl-magnesium halide is allowed to react with an alkyl- or aryl-trihalosilane precursor or reagent to produce a product mixture of RSiXand RSiX, wherein each R is independently selected to be an alkyl or aryl group and X is a halogen group, such that the RSiXproduct is formed with a high degree of selectivity. High selectivity is defined as the mass ratio of RSiXproduct to the RSiX product that is formed in the reaction being greater than 7:1.

Hydrosilylation reaction catalysts and curable compositions and methods for their preparation and use

A polysilane-polysilazane copolymer contains a polysilane unit of formula (I), and a polysilazane unit of formula (II), where each Rand each Rare each independently selected from H, Si, and N atoms, Ris selected from H, Si, or C atoms, a&#x2267;1, b&#x2267;1, and a quantity (a+b)&#x2267;2. The polysilane-polysilazane copolymer may be formulated in a composition with a solvent. The polysilane-polysilazane copolymer may be used in PMD and STI applications for trench filling, where the trenches have widths of 100 nm or less and aspect ratios of at least (6). The polysilane-polysilazane copolymer can be prepared by amination of a perchloro polysilane having (2) or more silicon atoms per molecule with a primary amine. 

Polysilane&#x2014;polysilazane copolymers and methods for their preparation and use

A Grignard process for preparing phenyl-containing chlorosilane products, in particular diphenylchlorosilanes, is carried out in three embodiments. In the first embodiment, the reactants of the Grignard process are a phenyl Grignard reagent, an ether solvent, a trichlorosilane, and an aromatic hydrocarbon coupling solvent. In the second embodiment, the reactants of the Grignard process are a phenyl Grignard reagent, an ether solvent, a phenylchlorosilane, and an aromatic hydrocarbon coupling solvent. In the third embodiment, the reactants of the Grignard process are a phenyl Grignard reagent, an ether solvent, a trichlorosilane, a phenylchlorosilane, and an aromatic hydrocarbon coupling solvent. In each embodiment, the reactants are present in a particular mole ratio.

Grignard processes with improved yields of diphenylchlorosilanes as products

Three improved Grignard processes are used for preparing phenyl-containing chlorosilane products wherein the yield of diphenylchlorosilanes as a product is maximized, while the yield of phenylchlorosilanes as a product is minimized. In one embodiment, the process involves contacting a phenyl Grignard reagent, an ether solvent, an aromatic halogenated coupling solvent and a trichlorosilane. In another embodiment, the process involves contacting a phenyl Grignard reagent, an ether solvent, an aromatic halogenated coupling solvent, a trichlorosilane, and a phenylchlorosilane. In yet another embodiment, the process involves contacting a phenyl Grignard reagent, an ether solvent, an aromatic halogenated coupling solvent, and a phenylchlorosilane. In each embodiment, the reactants are present in particular mole ratios of the components.

Grignard processes with increased content of diphenylchlorosilanes

A method for preparing phenyl-containing organosilicon intermediates using an aromatic halogenated solvent during the coupling reaction involving a phenyl Grignard reagent and a precursor silane. The process comprises contacting a phenyl halide with magnesium in a solvent such as ether, or an aromatic halogenated/ether solvent mixture to form a Grignard reagent, and contacting the Grignard reagent with a precursor chlorosilane in aromatic halogenated solvent to form the desired organosilicon intermediates, and then filtering and distilling to acquire the organosilicon intermediate reaction product.

Process for preparing phenylorganosilicon intermediates

Alkenylalkoxysilanes such as allyltrimethoxysilane can be made by reacting the corresponding monoalkenyldichlorosilane, i.e., allyldichlorosilane, with a monohydroxy alcohols, i.e., methyl alcohol. No catalyst is required and the reactions can be carried out at room temperature.

Method for preparing organofunctional silanes

Mercaptoalkylalkyldialkoxysilane compositions are prepared by reacting an alkoxysilane containing an unsaturated organic group, with a sulfur containing organic acid, in the presence of a peroxide catalyst. This step produces a thiol ester. In the next step, methanolysis of the thiol ester is carried out in the presence of a basic catalyst. The resulting product is a mercaptoalkylalkyldialkoxysilane composition such as mercaptoethylmethyldimethoxysilane, mercaptomethylmethyldiethoxysilane, mercaptopropylmethyldiethoxysilane, or mercaptopropylmethyldimethoxysilane. Carrying out the first step of the reaction at least in part in the presence of air obtains maximum efficiency.

Method of making mercaptoalkylalkyldialkoxysilanes

Chloropropylsilanes are prepared via hydrosilation of olefinic halides with organosilicon hydrides, in the presence of neat platinum free copper containing catalysts. Organosilicon hydrides such as triethylsilane, olefinic halides such as allyl chloride, and catalysts such as copper acetate, copper chloride, copper sulphate, copper hydroxide, copper nitrate, and copper cyanide, can be used in the process.

A one-step process for the preparation of organosilicon intermediates. The organosilicon intermediates comprise a group which includes such intermediates as 1,4-bis(dimethylsilyl)benzene, 1,4-bis(dimethylchlorosilyl)benzene, and their derivatives. The process comprises: combining a dihalobenzene with magnesium metal in a co-solvent mixture of an ether and an organic solvent and reacting them with an organosilicon compound of the general formula, R2bHcSiXd. The resulting mixture is allowed to react to completion. The resulting mixture is passed through a filtration device. The liquid, now free of solid magnesium halide, is subjected to a separation technique to recover the subject organosilicon intermediates and their derivatives.

Preparation of organosilicon intermediate and their derivatives in a novel grignard process

A Grignard-type process for the preparation of unsaturated organic compounds. The process comprises contacting an unsaturated organic halide with magnesium metal in a mixture of ether and a polar halogenated hydrocarbon co-solvent, filtering the reaction product from the reaction step and thereafter, treating the reaction product filtrate from the filtration step to obtain the desired unsaturated organic compounds.
