Techniques are described for an unbuffered multicast delivery mode representing the capability of transmitting a multicast frame within a same DTIM interval during which the multicast frame is received. In an example, a network access device determines that a first computing device is in a power saving mode. The network access device receives, during a DTIM interval while the first computing device is in the power saving mode, a multicast frame destined to a multicast MAC address. The network access device determines an association between the multicast MAC address and a device MAC address of a second computing device. The network access device sends, during the DTIM interval and based on the association, the multicast frame to the second computing device.

Multicast traffic management

Devices, systems and methods are disclosed for allowing a mobile device to roam from a first frequency band to a second frequency band for a dual band access point when a signal strength associated with the first frequency band improves. For example, the mobile device may store a first signal strength associated with the first frequency band when the mobile device first connects to the first frequency band and may monitor subsequent signal strengths to determine if they exceed the first signal strength. When a subsequent signal strength exceeds the first signal strength, the mobile device may use this as an indication that the mobile device is closer to the access point and within range of the second frequency band. The mobile device may then detect and connect to the second frequency band.

Frequency acquisition during roaming

Approaches enable a device capable of wireless communication, such as a device having a wireless adapter, to automatically select and connect to an available wireless access point (AP) having favorable performance, security, and/or other attributes that may be ascertained through various parameters, despite the wireless AP not being the last-known and/or last-connected-to wireless AP. The wireless-enabled device may determine the wireless AP to connect to in a number of ways, such as by determining all available wireless APs in the vicinity of the device and identifying, ranking and/or scoring the parameters for some or all of the available wireless APs to determine a ranking of the wireless APs. Once a favorable wireless AP is identified, the device may automatically attempt to connect to the wireless AP. If the wireless AP is not available, the device may automatically attempt to connect to the next wireless AP in the ranked list, etc.

Automated wireless access point selection

The present disclosure describes methods and apparatus for beaconing within a wireless network based on an indication of distance. For certain example embodiments, in a wireless network in which a master device is a device configured to transmit a beacon within the wireless network, a first wireless communication device may determine, based on an indication of distance between two wireless communication devices, if the first wireless communication device is to act as a master device. For example, a wireless signal may be received. Based at least partially on the received wireless signal, an indication of distance between two wireless communication devices in a wireless network may be obtained. And based at least partially on the obtained indication of distance between the two wireless communication devices, it may be determined if a first wireless communication device is to act as a master device within the wireless network.

Methods and apparatus for beaconing within a wireless network based on an indication of distance

The present disclosure describes methods and apparatus for synchronizing beacon transmissions. Synchronization beacons may be transmitted from multiple nodes during a same time slot of a discovery window with accommodation for managing potential signal interference. For certain example embodiments, a first wireless communication device includes a transceiver and a synchronization beacon transmission system. A transceiver may be configured to transmit a synchronization beacon in a neighbor awareness networking (NAN) environment, wherein the NAN environment includes multiple wireless communication devices arranged in a cluster. A synchronization beacon transmission system may be configured to determine a transmission time based at least partially on an operation that separates the wireless communication devices of the cluster into multiple groups. A synchronization beacon transmission system may further be configured to cause the transceiver to transmit the synchronization beacon responsive to the determined transmission time.

Methods and apparatus for synchronizing beacon transmissions in a neighbor awareness network (NAN)

The present disclosure describes methods and apparatus for advertising a service in a wireless network via surrogacy. A principal (e.g., first) wireless communication device may request via a first wireless channel that an agent (e.g., second) wireless communication device (i) act as a surrogate and (ii) function in accordance with a social announcement scheme, which is associated with a second wireless channel, and with regard to a service that is available. The principal wireless communication device may have offered services or wanted services. The agent wireless communication device may perform an announcement operation with other wireless communication device(s) on behalf of the principal wireless communication device via the second wireless channel to discover or advertise a service that is available. The agent wireless communication device may report a result of the announcement operation, which result may include an identification of service(s) that are made available by other wireless communication device(s).

Methods and apparatus for advertising a service in a wireless network

Aspects of this disclosure related to a computer-implemented method for using a first device to configure a second device to access a network. The method includes transmitting a request on a channel, the request containing information sufficient to inform a device that the system can configure the device to access a network through an access point. The method further includes receiving a response on the channel, the response sent by the device after the request and transmitting a request for security information from a server. The method further includes receiving security information from the server, using the security information to verify an identity of the device, and transmitting a security profile to the device, the security profile containing information sufficient to allow the device to connect to the access point to access the network.

Configuring devices for use on a network using a fast packet exchange with authentication

Devices, systems and methods are disclosed for allowing a mobile device to connect to a network based on data rates. For example, the mobile device may select from available networks based on data rates associated with the available networks. In addition, the mobile device may determine to roam from a current network based on data rates. For example, the mobile device may roam when an expected throughput exceeds an actual throughput or when an anticipated throughput requirement exceeds the actual throughput.

A wireless network device includes a wireless network port, first and second virtual machines, and a processor. While executing the first virtual machine, the processor stores, in a third queue, data to be processed by the first virtual machine and the first virtual machine maintains, in a first queue, a copy of the data stored in the third queue. While executing the second virtual machine, the processor stores, in the third queue, data to be processed by the second virtual machine and the second virtual machine maintains, in a second queue, a copy of the data stored in the third queue. Upon resuming execution, the first virtual machine transfers, to the third queue, the copy of the data maintained in the first queue. Upon resuming execution, the second virtual machine transfers, to the third queue, the copy of the data maintained in the second queue.

Method and apparatus for concurrently maintaining queues for multiple virtual machines

A system to wirelessly communicate with a wireless network. The system includes a memory and a processor. The memory is configured to store a first queue, a second queue, and a processor queue. The processor is configured to: selectively execute a first virtual machine using the processor queue; while executing the first virtual machine, maintain the first queue as a copy of data in the processor queue; selectively execute a second virtual machine using the processor queue; and while executing the second virtual machine, maintain the second queue as a copy of data in the processor queue.

All-in-one wireless network device

A method, apparatus, and computer-readable media for a wireless network device for communicating with a network comprises a memory to store an image comprising a plurality of virtual machines and only one multi-tasking operating system, wherein each of the virtual machines comprises a wireless network application to execute on the multi-tasking operating system; a processor to execute the virtual machines; and a port comprising a physical-layer device to communicate with the network, and a media access controller to communicate with the physical-layer device and the processor.
