A system that implements a dynamically adjusting coasting regeneration for an electrified vehicle includes an electrified powertrain, first and second sensors and a controller. The electrified powertrain includes an electric motor that provides drive torque to a driveline, the electric motor further providing regenerative braking energy to a battery system during a deceleration event. The first and second sensors sense dynamic, static and pseudo-static artifact data. The controller is configured to receive signals from the first and second sensors; determine first candidate deceleration rates based on the first signal; determine second candidate deceleration rates based on the second signal; select a preferred deceleration rate from the first and second candidate deceleration rates; and provide a torque request to the electrified powertrain indicative of the preferred deceleration rate.

System and method for dynamically adjusting coasting regeneration based on environmental information

A control system and method for operating a gasoline engine comprising a turbocharger having a compressor and a turbine is provided. The system includes a throttle, vanes on the turbine, at least one cam, and a controller. The controller controls a transition into vane braking and is configured to: command the throttle to move to the closed position; command the vanes to the open position; determine whether additional negative torque is required; activate vane braking based on the determination that additional negative torque is required; command the vanes to the closed position; command the at least one cam to a maximum volumetric efficiency position; determine whether the at least one cam is at a maximum volumetric efficiency position; and command the throttle to the open position based on the determination that the at least one cam is at the maximum volumetric efficiency position.

Exhaust vane braking transition and correction strategy

An axial cam shifting system configured to selectively open and close engine valves includes an axial cam shifting assembly and a controller. The axial cam shifting assembly includes a camshaft, a first cam assembly, an actuator, a carriage and a position sensor. The first cam assembly is received on the camshaft and has two distinct cam profiles. The actuator has a first pin and a second pin. The carriage is arranged on the camshaft and defines a track that selectively receives the first and second pins, wherein the axial shifting cam assembly is movable between a first, and a second position corresponding to alignment of the respective two distinct cam profiles. The position sensor communicates a signal indicative of a position of the carriage. The controller receives the signal and determines whether the carriage is in one of the first and second positions based on the signal.
