Disclosed herein are polypeptides having nuclease activity. Some of the polypeptides having nuclease activity were generated by an improved gene site mutagenesis ('GSSM') method or the tailored multi-site combinatorial assembly ('TMCA') method. Also disclosed are compositions and kits comprising the polypeptides having nuclease activity, and methods for making and using these polypeptides, compositions and kits.

Nucleases and methods for making and using them

Described herein are heterogeneous materials comprising a mixture of a first n-type semiconductor and a second n-type semiconductor. The first n-type semiconductor may be a single or plural phase TiOmaterial. The second n-type semiconductor includes a metal titanate and/or a noble metal. Upon activation with ultraviolet light, the photocatalytic material mixtures described herein efficiently decompose volatile chemical compounds. Furthermore, the photocatalytic materials disclosed herein are observably more stable, relative to known semiconductor materials, to inactivation by deposition.

Described herein are heterogeneous materials comprising a p-type semiconductor comprising two metal oxide compounds of the same metal in two different oxidation states and an n-type semiconductor having a deeper valence band than the p-type semiconductor valence bands, wherein the semiconductor types are in ionic communication with each other. The heterogeneous materials enhance photocatalytic activity.

A garnet ceramic phosphor with Ce and Mn co-doping, wherein calcium and silicon in the phosphor crystal host can be minimized for enhancing performance, is described herein. Some phosphor powders can be difficult to form into ceramic compacts because they are difficult to sinter. As described herein, phosphor powders that can degrade under conventional sintering temperatures can be sintered by heating the powder at a lower temperature, such as less than 800&#xb0; C., while the powder is under greater than atmospheric pressure, such as at least 0.05 GPa. Phosphor ceramic compacts prepared by this method, and light-emitting devices incorporating these phosphor ceramic compacts, are also described.

Emissive compacts and method of making the same

Described herein are devices for providing drinking fluid from feed sources comprising: a first reservoir, a filter for mechanically removing particles and a second reservoir for receipt of the processed feed fluid. A continually disinfecting element is disposed in either or both reservoirs to remove additional materials from the fluid. Drinking fluid is provided in a portable device. Optional light sources are provided to interact with the disinfecting elements and/or provide an indication of the contained suitability of such disinfecting elements. A method for creating drinking fluid from a feed source is also disclosed.

Disclosed herein are emissive ceramic elements having low amounts of certain trace elements. Applicants have surprisingly found that a lower internal quantum efficiency (IQE) may be attributed to specific trace elements that, even at very low amounts (e.g., 50 ppm or less), can cause significant deleterious effects on IQE. In some embodiments, the emissive ceramic element includes a garnet host material and an amount of Ce dopant. The emissive ceramic element may, in some embodiments, have an amount of Na in the composition less than about 67 ppm, an amount of Mg in the composition less than about 23 ppm, or an amount of Fe in the composition less than about 21 ppm.

Phosphor compositions and methods of making the same

Described herein are elements for light emitting devices comprising: an emissive element comprising a host material and an emissive guest material and substantially free of light scattering material; and a light scattering element comprising either a non-emissive or an emissive material, wherein the light scattering element is between about 2.5% to about 60% by volume voids and the thickness ratio of light scattering element to the emissive element is at least 1 to about 2.

Some embodiments disclosed herein include a lighting apparatus having a composite. The composite may include a first emissive layer and a second emissive layer. The first emissive layer may include a first garnet phosphor having a common dopant. The second emissive layer may include a second garnet phosphor having the common dopant. In some embodiments, the first emissive layer and the second emissive layer are fixed together. Some embodiments disclosed herein include efficient and economic methods of making the composite. The method may include, in some embodiments, sintering an assembly that includes pre-cursor materials for the first emissive layer and the second emissive layer.

Garnet-based phosphor ceramic sheets for light emitting device

Disclosed herein are emissive ceramic materials having a dopant concentration gradient along a thickness of a yttrium aluminum garnet (YAG) region. The dopant concentration gradient may include a maximum dopant concentration, a half-maximum dopant concentration, and a slope at or near the half-maximum dopant concentration. The emissive ceramics may, in some embodiments, exhibit high internal quantum efficiencies (IQE). The emissive ceramics may, in some embodiments, include porous regions. Also disclosed herein are methods of make the emissive ceramic by sintering an assembly having doped and non-doped layers.

Emissive ceramic materials having a dopant concentration gradient and methods of making and using the same

Disclosed herein are phosphor compositions having high gadolinium concentrations. Some embodiments include a thermally stable ceramic body comprising an emissive layer, wherein said emissive layer comprises a compound represented by the formula (AGdD)BO, wherein: D is a first dopant selected from the group consisting of Nd, Er, Eu, Mn, Cr, Yb, Sm, Tb, Ce, Pr, Dy, Ho, Lu and combinations thereof; A is selected from the group consisting of Y, Lu, Ca, La, Tb, and combinations thereof; B is selected from the group consisting of Al, Mg, Si, Ga, In, and combinations thereof; x is in the range of about 0.20 to about 0.80; and z is in the range of about 0.001 to about 0.10. Also disclosed are thermally stable ceramic bodies that can include the composition of formula I. Methods of making the ceramic body and a lighting device including the ceramic body are also disclosed.

Light emitting composite with phosphor components

Some embodiments disclosed herein include a ceramic body including a first region and a second region. The first region may include a host material and first concentration of a dopant that is effective to produce luminescence. The second region may include the host material and second concentration of the dopant. In some embodiments, the first region has an average grain size that is larger than an average grain of the second region. The ceramic body may, in some embodiments, exhibit superior internal quantum efficiency (IQE). Some embodiments disclosed herein include methods for the making and using the ceramic bodies disclosed herein. Also, some embodiments disclosed herein lighting apparatuses including the ceramic bodies disclosed herein.
