This method includes: receiving a route request packet that is broadcast to a current node; determining whether it is the first time that the current node receives the route request packet; if yes, evaluating, based on link overheads and retransmission overheads, performance of a real-time route and a historical route to obtain an evaluation result; and if the evaluation result indicates that the real-time route is better than the historical route, updating a reverse route of the current node based on the real-time route, to discover a route between a source node and a destination node based on the updated reverse route of the current node. Therefore, link overheads and retransmission overheads are considered in an AODV route discovery process, so that a discovered route has more balanced forward and reverse transmission performance.
