This disclosure provides wireless communication methods, components, devices and systems for link recovery in wireless communication networks. Some aspects more specifically relate to the recovery of lost wireless communication links for which initial link establishment has been aided by communications over anchor links of different frequency bands than those of the lost wireless communication links. According to some aspects, a recovery mechanism can be implemented that enables involved devices to recover such 'extension' links using communications over their associated frequency bands, without needing to revert to communication over their corresponding anchor links. In some examples, such a recovery mechanism can be implemented to enable recovery of a millimeter wave (mmWave) extension link of a non-standalone mmWave basic service set (BSS) without needing to revert to communication over a sub-7 GHz anchor link.

Recovery mechanisms for wireless extension links

This disclosure provides systems, methods, and apparatuses for wireless communication. An example apparatus selects a resource unit (RU) for a physical (PHY) layer convergence protocol (PLCP) protocol data unit (PPDU). The selected RU includes a set of contiguous tones spanning a bandwidth. The apparatus maps the set of contiguous tones to a set of non-contiguous tones distributed across the frequency spectrum, and transmits the PPDU over the set of non-contiguous tones. Another example apparatus selects an RU of a group of RUs that collectively span a frequency spectrum, and formats a PPDU based on a first frequency bandwidth wider than the selected RU's bandwidth. The apparatus parses the contiguous tones of the selected RU to a set of non-contiguous tones spanning a unique segment of a second frequency bandwidth wider than the first frequency bandwidth, and schedules a transmission of the PPDU over the set of non-contiguous tones.

Distributed tone mapping for power spectral density (PSD) limits

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. An encoding device may obtain a first set of coded bits by encoding multiple sets of information bits in accordance with a parallel encoding scheme. The encoding device may obtain a second set of coded bits by using some or all of the first set of coded bits to encode a second set of information bits in accordance with a concatenated encoding scheme. The encoding device may map at least the second set of coded bits to different layers of a constellation based on a first priority associated with the first set of coded bits and a second priority associated with the second set of coded bits. Accordingly, the encoding device may transmit a signal associated with the second set of coded bits based on modulating the signal in accordance with the mapping.

Enhanced bit mapping and encoding schemes

Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a responding device may receive a signal from an initiating device. The responding device may estimate, from the signal, a channel impulse response (CIR) that represents signal reflections from one or more objects as multiple taps. The responding device may select one or more taps, from the multiple taps, that are within a first time window that starts at a first offset from a reference point and that has a first specified time duration. The responding device may transmit, to the initiating device, a CIR report that indicates the one or more taps. Numerous other aspects are described.

Radio frequency sensing with channel impulse response

Aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a first wireless communication device (WCD) may transmit, to a second wireless communication device, a first synchronization message using a first radio frequency (RF) technology and a first frequency resource, the first synchronization message associated with synchronization for a second RF technology. The first WCD may transmit, to the second WCD and after switching to a second frequency resource, a second synchronization message using the first RF technology, the second synchronization message associated with synchronization for the second RF technology, and the switching to the second frequency resource based at least in part on one or more of: transmission of the second synchronization message being associated with ranging or sensing, or failure of the first synchronization message or failure of a reply, from the second WCD, to the first synchronization message. Various other aspects are described.

Narrowband assisted ultrawideband frequency hopping

This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for reducing PAPR in wireless communications. Some implementations more specifically relate to single-carrier frequency-division multiplexing (SC-FDM) techniques that can be used for wireless communications in wireless local area networks (WLANs). In some aspects, a wireless communication device may modulate a physical layer convergence protocol (PLCP) protocol data unit (PPDU) as a series of symbols in the time domain and may transform a subset of the time-domain symbols into a number (Q) of frequency-domain samples based on a Q-point discrete Fourier transform (DFT). The wireless communication device maps the Q frequency-domain samples to a number (N) of orthogonal subcarriers (representing an orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) symbol), where N>Q, and transforms the N subcarriers into N time-domain samples, based on an inverse fast Fourier transform (IFFT), for transmission over a wireless channel.

Single-carrier frequency-division multiplexing (SC-FDM) for wireless local area networks (WLANs)

This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for generating enhanced trigger frames. Some implementations more specifically relate to trigger frame designs that support gains in data throughput achievable in accordance with the IEEE 802.11be amendment, and future generations, of the IEEE 802.11 standard. In some implementations, an enhanced trigger frame may be used to solicit a non-legacy trigger-based (TB) physical layer protocol convergence protocol (PLCP) protocol data unit (PPDU) from one or more wireless stations (STAs). In some implementations, the enhanced trigger frame may be configurable to support multiple versions of the IEEE 802.11 standard. For example, an enhanced trigger frame may be configured in accordance with a legacy trigger frame format or a non-legacy trigger frame format. Thus, when configured in accordance with the legacy trigger frame format, the enhanced trigger frame can also be used to a legacy TB PPDU from one or more STAs.

Enhanced trigger frame

This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for amplitude shaping encoding, and specifically, for indicating boundaries in bitstreams encoded using amplitude shaping encoding. In some aspects, a transmitting device may insert, into an bitstream to indicate a boundary, a sequence of amplitude bits not associated with any patterns of bit values in a lookup table used for the encoding. In some other aspects, a transmitting device may monitor a length of the amplitude bits in a bitstream during the encoding and stop the encoding on information bits at an end of a current data unit responsive to the length reaching a threshold. In some other aspects, a transmitting device may monitor the length of the information bits and, for each data unit, determine whether a boundary is or would be reached. Responsive to determining that a boundary is or would be reached, the transmitting device may not include, before the boundary, any amplitude bits generated based on the information bits in the data unit, and instead add padding bits after a last amplitude bit before the boundary.

Boundary identification for probabilistic amplitude shaping

This disclosure provides methods, devices, and systems for forward error correction encoding and modulation with reliability differentiation. In some examples, a transmitting wireless communication device may use a concatenated encoding technique to generate a set of encoded bits that conveys both information bits of a first priority and information bits of a second priority lower than the first priority. In other examples, the transmitting device may use a parallel encoding technique to generate a first set of encoded bits that conveys information bits of the first priority and a second set of encoded bits that conveys information bits of the second priority. According to aspects of the disclosure, the transmitting device can map encoded bits corresponding to information bits of the first priority to relatively higher reliability bit positions of a modulation constellation.

Forward error correction encoding with reliability differentiation

This disclosure provides methods, components, devices and systems for physical layer (PHY) latency reduction. Some aspects more specifically relate to PHY protocol data unit (PPDU) designs that support inserting low-latency traffic into a transmission opportunity (TXOP) occupied by non-low-latency traffic. In some implementations, during a TXOP, an access point (AP) may output an aggregated PPDU (A-PPDU) that is aggregated in a time domain and includes an A-PPDU header and one or more A-PPDU subframes. The AP may obtain, from an application layer, a low-latency PPDU (LL-PPDU) subframe and may insert the LL-PPDU subframe in place of at least one of the one or more A-PPDU subframes. The AP may output the LL-PPDU subframe during the TXOP. A wireless station (STA) receiving the A-PPDU header and the one or more A-PPDU subframes may detect the presence of the LL-PPDU subframe and may receive and decode the LL-PPDU subframe.

Physical layer latency reduction

This disclosure provides methods, components, devices and systems for modulation of extended long range (ELR) wireless packets. A wireless communication device receives an indication to transmit a single-user wireless packet associated with an ELR communication mode. The indication may be of a resource allocation, associated with the ELR communication mode, via which to transmit the packet. The packet may include a preamble portion and a data portion, with at least the data portion associated with a duplication scheme pertaining to the ELR communication mode. The wireless communication device transmits the packet in accordance with the indication. The wireless communication device may transmit the packet using a first quantity of duplications of at least the data portion in accordance with the duplication scheme, with the first quantity of duplications associated with the ELR communication mode.

Modulation of extended long range wireless packets

This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for increasing carrier frequencies for wireless communications in wireless local area networks (WLANs). Some implementations more specifically relate to packet designs that support wireless communications on carrier frequencies above 7 GHz. In some aspects, a wireless communication device may map a physical layer convergence protocol (PLCP) protocol data unit (PPDU) to orthogonal subcarriers according to existing tone plans associated with carrier frequencies below 7 GHz and may up-clock the PPDU for transmission on carrier frequencies above 7 GHz (such as by increasing the frequency of a clock signal used to convert the PPDU between the frequency domain and the time domain). In some implementations, the PPDU may conform to an existing PPDU format designed for sub-7 GHz wireless communications. In some other implementations, the PPDU may conform to a 'green field' PPDU format optimized for wireless communications on carrier frequencies above 7 GHz.

60 GHz physical layer convergence protocol (PLCP) protocol data unit (PPDU) formats

This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for distributed transmission of short training fields in a power spectral density limited frequency band. In one aspect, a device receives a distributed resource unit (dRU) assignment for transmission of a dRU portion of a physical layer protocol data unit (PPDU); determines a spatial stream global cyclic shift delay (CSD) index for an short training field (STF) of the dRU portion of the PPDU; and transmits, based on the spatial stream global CSD index, the EHT of the dRU portion of the PPDU across a dRU spreading bandwidth associated with the dRU assignment using a tone plan and sequence corresponding to a regular resource unit (rRU) transmission mode.

Distributed transmission of short training fields

This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems that support communicating using orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) according to a tone plan that supports 20 MHz subchannel puncturing within a wireless channel. In some aspects, a non-legacy tone plan may define a set of tones for a resource unit (RU) such that the RU does not overlap a 20 MHz subchannel boundary of the wireless channel. The locations of the set of tones in the non-legacy tone plan may be shifted relative to corresponding tones associated with a corresponding RU according to a legacy tone plan. One or more of the disclosed tone plans may enable puncturing of subchannels while making use of some RUs that would otherwise partially overlap a punctured subchannel in the legacy tone plan.

Tone plan for wireless communication

This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for wireless communications over a 320 MHz bandwidth. Some implementations more specifically relate to signaling techniques for indicating the bandwidth of a physical layer convergence protocol (PLCP) protocol data unit (PPDU) transmitted in a secondary 160 MHz channel of the 320 MHz bandwidth. In some implementations, an access point (AP) may transmit an aggregated PPDU (A-PPDU) that includes a first sub-PPDU transmitted within a primary 160 MHz channel and a second sub-PPDU transmitted within a secondary 160 MHz channel. In such implementations, the first sub-PPDU may carry bandwidth information indicating the bandwidth of the first sub-PPDU within the primary 160 MHz channel and the second sub-PPDU may carry bandwidth information indicating the 320 MHz bandwidth.
