The present disclosure provides an aerosol source member and an aerosol delivery device that includes an aerosol source member. The aerosol source member includes a segmented substrate portion that includes a first substrate segment and a second substrate segment. The first substrate segment includes a first aerosol former, the second substrate segment includes a second aerosol former different from the first aerosol former, and the second substrate segment is positioned between the first substrate segment and a downstream end of the aerosol source member. The first substrate segment and the second substrate segment are configured such that when heated by a heat source, the first substrate segment is heated to a first temperature and the second substrate segment is heated to a second temperature that is less than the first temperature.

A smoking article includes a mouth end portion in fluid communication with an aerosol generating cartridge. The cartridge includes an enclosure configured to receive an aerosol precursor therein, with the aerosol precursor being configured to generate an aerosol in response to heat. At least a portion of the enclosure is permeable such that the aerosol precursor is retained within the enclosure while the aerosol formed from the aerosol precursor is released from the enclosure through the permeable portion upon heating of the enclosure or the aerosol precursor therein.

The present disclosure is directed to an aerosol delivery device and a consumable unit for use with a holder of an aerosol delivery device. In one example implementation, the consumable unit comprises an ignitable heat source and a substrate material having an aerosol precursor composition configured to form an aerosol upon application of heat thereto. The heat source of the consumable unit is contained within a susceptor pouch, and the susceptor pouch is configured to be heated by an inductive heating assembly to ignite the heat source. In some implementations, the susceptor pouch comprises the consumable unit. In other implementations, the substrate material is contained within a substrate container.

The present disclosure is directed to an aerosol delivery device and a holder for use with a removable substrate cartridge. The removable cartridge comprises an ignitable heat source and a substrate portion that includes a substrate material having an aerosol precursor composition configured to form an aerosol upon application of heat thereto. The holder includes a main body defining a receiving chamber configured to receive the substrate cartridge, a power source, and an inductive heating assembly. A least a portion of the inductive heating assembly is integral with the main body and is configured to ignite the ignitable heat source and to heat at least a portion of the substrate material.

The present disclosure is directed to an aerosol delivery device and a holder for use with a removable substrate cartridge. In one implementation, the holder includes a main body, a power source, and a lighter portion. The main body defines an aerosol passageway, a proximal end and a distal end, and a receiving chamber configured to receive a substrate cartridge. The power source is located in the main body and is configured to power the lighter portion. The lighter portion is configured to ignite an ignitable heat source of the substrate cartridge and is integral with the main body.

The aerosol delivery device includes a resonant transformer comprising a resonant transmitter and a resonant receiver. The aerosol source member includes an inhalable substance medium at least a portion of which is positioned proximate the resonant transmitter. The resonant transmitter is configured to generate an oscillating magnetic field and induce an alternating voltage in the resonant receiver when exposed to the oscillating magnetic field, such that the alternating voltage causes the resonant receiver to generate heat and thereby vaporize components of the inhalable substance medium to produce an aerosol. In some implementations, the resonant receiver comprises part of the control body. In other implementations, the resonant receiver comprises part of the aerosol source member.

An aerosol delivery device and a substrate tablet for use with an inductively-heated aerosol delivery device are provided. The aerosol delivery device comprises a control body having a housing, a mouthpiece portion located proximate the housing, a resonant transmitter located in the control body, a control component configured to drive the resonant transmitter, and a substrate tablet receivable in the device. The substrate tablet may comprise a granular substrate material and a susceptor component, the substrate material and the susceptor component may be configured to be formed together, and the susceptor component may be configured to be heated by the resonant transmitter.

The present disclosure provides aerosol generating substrates and aerosol source members comprising aerosol generating substrates, as well as methods of manufacturing thereof. In an example implementation, an aerosol generating substrate may comprise a fibrous filler material, an aerosol forming material, and a plurality of heat conducting constituents, wherein the substrate is formed as a sheet, and wherein the heat conducting constituents are part of the sheet. The heat conducting constituents may be incorporated within the sheet, or may be formed on a surface of the sheet. In another example implementation, an aerosol source member may comprise a substrate portion formed of a collection of intermingled pieces cut from an aerosol substrate sheet. In addition, or alternatively, a substrate portion may be formed of a series of overlapping layers of an aerosol substrate sheet.

The present disclosure is directed to an aerosol delivery device and a holder for use with a removable substrate cartridge. In one implementation, the holder includes a main body defining a proximal end and a distal end, the main body further defining a receiving chamber configured to receive at least a portion of a substrate cartridge, and an aerosol passageway that extends through at least a portion of the main body, a power source, and a modular lighter configured to ignite the ignitable heat source. The present disclosure is directed to an aerosol delivery device and a holder for use with a removable substrate cartridge. In one implementation, the holder may include a main body and a sleeve. An aerosol-generation system is between the lighting end and the tobacco portion. The aerosol-generation system includes a heat generation portion, comprising an elongate fluted member actuated by ignition of the lighting end. The fluted member defines grooves extending longitudinally between opposed first and second ends, with the first end being at the lighting end and the grooves being equidistantly spaced apart about the fluted member. Each groove has a maximum depth. The depth maxima of the grooves define a circle having a radius. The maximum depth of each groove is no more than the radius of the circle.
