An electrically actuated, hydraulic power steering system is provided. The steering system includes a hydraulic pump for generating hydraulic pressure, a hydraulic fluid reservoir, a hydraulic cylinder, and a control valve arrangement that selectively connects the hydraulic cylinder to the pump and the hydraulic fluid reservoir. The control valve arrangement is characterized during the on-center position by a first and a second chamber of the hydraulic cylinder being in fluid communication with each other but not with the fluid reservoir. In one embodiment, the steering system has a steering sensor, a control box, and two pressure accumulators for providing at least two levels of steering assist.

Electrically actuated, hydraulic power steering system

A belt driven power steering system for use in a vehicle to eliminate energy waste. The belt driven power steering system includes a belt driven pulley powered by an engine crankshaft in the vehicle; a first gear operably connected to the pulley via a first shaft, the first gear providing power rotation in one direction; a second gear aligned with and driven by the first gear, the second gear providing power rotation in a direction opposite to the power rotation of the first gear; power control means operably connected to the first gear and to the second gear to provide power in the desired direction; a steering system operably connected to the power control means to steer the vehicle to the left or to the right; a steering wheel operably connected to the power control means wherein the power provided to the control means is based on driver input to the steering system via the steering wheel; and torque sensing mean for sensing the torque applied to the steering wheel by the driver input to steer the vehicle in a direction to the left or to the right.

Belt driven mechanical boost power steering

The stringed instrument includes an aluminum head formed of a stepped annular flange with a shoulder intermediate smaller and larger diameter flange portions. A groove is formed in the shoulder to enable the smaller diameter flange portion to vibrate relative to the larger diameter flange portion. A membrane is stretched over the smaller diameter flange portion. The arm of the instrument is secured solely to the larger diameter flange portion by neck mount brackets screw-threaded to the head. The brackets permit angular adjustment of the arm relative to the membrane of the head. A full fingerboard capo is slidably mounted to the neck underlying the fretboard and has an arm spring-biased to engage the strings and to maintain the capo in selected positions along the length of the arm. A fifth string capo is slidably mounted to the fretboard and has a spring to maintain it in selected longitudinal position along the fretboard.

Stringed instrument

A trapezoidal endless power transmission belt structure is provided which is made primarily of elastomeric material and has a pair of oppositely arranged surfaces disposed in spaced relation to define an outside and inside surface of the belt structure and has a load-carrying section arranged midway between the inside and outside surfaces. The belt structure has a tension section and a compression section which are of similar construction and each is comprised of a plurality of layers including a fiber-loaded layer disposed adjacent the load-carrying section and a fabric layer disposed remote from the load-carrying section; and, the fabric layers and fiber-loaded layers cooperate to assure that the belt structure has longitudinal flexibility yet has transverse rigidity or stiffness sufficient to enable the belt structure to be operated in associated sheaves free of shear planes parallel to the load-carrying section.

Endless power transmission belt structure

An improvement in the initial folding operation of the hemming machine disclosed in U.S. Pat. No. 4,066,025 by the substitution of a live angular belt extending across the path of advancing overhanging hem material in place of the prior fixed curved guide which led the material to a folded under position.

Hem folding machine

A tensioner for a power transmission belt that is adapted to be operated in an endless path and a method of making the same are provided, the tensioner comprising a mechanical spring unit operatively associated with a support unit and a belt engaging unit for urging the belt engaging unit relative to the support unit and against a belt with a force to tension the belt, and a fluid dampening unit operatively associated with the support unit and the belt engaging unit to dampen the movement of the belt engaging unit relative to the support unit in at least one direction of movement thereof, the fluid dampening unit comprising a rotary dampening unit and being coaxially aligned with the spring unit. The rotary dampening unit comprises an outer ring member and an inner ring member disposed in the outer ring member with the members being arranged for relative rotational movement therebetween, the outer ring member being operatively interconnected to the support unit and the inner ring member being operatively interconnected to the belt engaging unit. The support unit comprises a cup-shaped housing containing the spring unit therein and having a closed end and an open end, the housing being operatively interconnected to the outer ring member. Part of the open end of the housing extends over the outer ring member and is secured thereto.

Belt tensioner and method of making the same

A tensioner for a power transmission belt or the like that is adapted to be operated in an endless path and a method of making the same are provided, the tensioner comprising a support unit for being fixed relative to the belt, a belt engaging unit carried by the support unit and being movable relative thereto, a polymeric spring unit being operatively associated with the support unit and the belt engaging unit for urging the belt engaging unit relative to the support unit and against the belt with a force to tension the belt, and a coiled mechanical spring also being operatively associated with the support unit and the belt engaging unit for urging the belt engaging unit relative to the support unit and against the belt with a force to tension the belt whereby the polymeric spring unit and the mechanical spring combine to define the tensioning force for the belt while the polymeric spring unit additionally tends to dampen the movement of the belt engaging unit relative to the support unit, the mechanical spring being substantially completely embedded in the polymeric spring unit so that the mechanical spring is substantially completely engaged and surrounded by the polymeric spring unit.

A novel composite pulley construction is provided, which comprises a continuous, metal peripheral belt supporting and bearing surface, and a plastic body. Also provided is a novel method for making a composite pulley.

Composite pulley and method for making

An endless power transmission belt is provided and comprises a tension section, a compression section, and a load-carrying means bonded between the sections with at least one of the sections having at least one laminated layer and with the laminated layer having a greige fabric and a polymeric material laminated thereagainst with the greige fabric and laminated layer having a thickness ratio therebetween defined by an empirical equation whereby precise control of the polymeric material enables such polymeric material to serve as an anti-shear cushion which protects the greige fabric.

Endless power transmission belt

A semi automatic hemming machine for folding cloth pieces with the edge folded back within the fold, stitching the folded cloth pieces to form hems thereon and stacking the stitched hemmed pieces into bundles for further processing. The folding and hemming machine utilizes a conveyor belt for transporting the cloth pieces continuously past stationary folding guide plates and a pair of synchronized narrow belts engage the folded edge of the material, top and bottom, to frictionally drive the folded hem through the folding and stitching operations. A transversely reciprocating stacker with a plurality of fingers for engaging the edge of passing cloth pieces removes the hemmed cloth pieces, drops them onto a stack which is periodically removed for further processing.

An endless power transmission belt is provided which has a compression section and a plurality of longitudinally extending ribs comprising the compression section and defining the inside surface of the belt and each pair of immediately adjacent ribs has a space therebetween with the space allowing wear of the ribs while assuring the apexes of sheave projections operatively associating with the belt are maintained spaced from the belt thereby prolonging the life thereof.

A tensioning apparatus for an endless power transmission device is provided and utilizes the elastic properties of an elastomeric material to provide the tensioning action and such apparatus is supported adjacent the endless power transmission device to be tensioned and has components thereof operatively associated with the elastomeric material and with the device.
