In accordance with presently disclosed embodiments, a hybrid drive system that uses multiple sources of mechanical energy to drive a pump is provided. The hybrid drive system may include a first mover for generating first mechanical energy, a pump, a drivetrain for providing first mechanical energy from the first mover to the pump, and a second mover within the drivetrain to generate and provide second mechanical energy to the pump. The multiple sources of mechanical energy may provide flexibility with respect to system design and allow for alternative sources of fuel and energy to be used to drive pumping systems. This may reduce the total diesel fuel consumption necessary to perform a well stimulation operation as well as provide for configurations in which diesel engines may be excluded from the pumping process in favor of alternative energy sources that typically do not have sufficient torque capacity to power a pump.

Hybrid drive systems for well stimulation operations

The disclosure provides for a wellbore servicing system that comprises an engine operable to provide power to one or more pumps. The one or more pumps are operable to direct a fluid into a wellbore, wherein the engine is coupled to the one or more pumps via a transmission. The system further comprises an engine control module (ECM) coupled to the engine. The system further comprises a controller coupled to the one or more pumps and operable to determine the volumetric efficiency of each of the one or more pumps. The system further comprises an information handling system, wherein the ECM and the controller are communicatively coupled to the information handling system, wherein the information handling system is operable to determine a divergence when a load is placed on the engine and a pumping plan for the system.

Engine condition and control through the use of a pump as a dynamometer

A gaseous fuel supply to an engine at a wellbore can be monitored using a monitoring system. The monitoring system can include a sensor apparatus having sensors configured to monitor the fuel supply of the engine. The fuel supply can be transported within a fuel supply line of a wellsite. The monitoring system can divert a portion of the fuel supply of the engine from the fuel supply line to a fuel sampling line. The monitoring system can analyze the portion of the fuel supply using the sensor apparatus to determine a fuel property measurement of the fuel supply. Additionally, the monitoring system can determine that the fuel property measurement is outside of a predefined range associated with a target performance level of the engine. In response, the monitoring system can perform a mitigation operation to cause the fuel supply to enable the target performance level of the engine.

Monitoring system for a gaseous fuel supply to an engine at a wellbore

A reserve fuel system can be used to supplement fuel provided to an engine of wellsite equipment. For example, a fuel supply line can transport gaseous fuel at a wellsite to an engine of an equipment coupled to the fuel supply line. A reserve fuel tank can store gaseous fuel diverted from the fuel supply line. The reserve fuel tank can include a first valve coupling a first end of the reserve fuel tank to the fuel supply line to divert the gaseous fuel and a second valve coupling a second end of the reserve fuel tank to the engine. The second valve can be in a closed position to prevent the stored gaseous fuel from transferring to the engine or an open position to transfer the stored gaseous fuel to the engine. A control system can adjust the second valve based on a pressure of the fuel supply line.

Reserve fuel system for wellsite equipment

Certain conditions require powering down an engine driving a pump. During the down sequence the pump may continue pumping servicing fluid which may not be desirable. Activating one or more control valves may throttle or prevent the servicing fluid from being pumped from the pump during the power down sequence. Activation of an input control valve may introduce pressurized fluid into a cylinder of the pump extending a rod to force or maintain a suction valve in an open position. While the suction valve is in the open position, the stroke of the plunger may not create enough pressure to pump the servicing fluid causing the servicing fluid to flow between a fluid header and a chamber of the pump. Activation of an output control valve may divert servicing fluid pumped from the pump to a reservoir instead of to the desired location.

A system and method for automatic selection and control of pumps for well stimulation operations is disclosed. In certain embodiments, a system may comprise a pumping system comprising one or more pumping units, a fluid manifold providing fluid communication between the one or more pumping units and a wellbore, and a controller for determining a torque capability of the one or more pumping units.

Automatic selection and control of pumps for well stimulation operations

A positionable exhaust apparatus with an exhaust outlet having a first bore extending along a length of the exhaust outlet. The first bore having a longitudinal axis extending the length thereof and an exhaust outlet tip coupled to the exhaust outlet. The exhaust outlet tip having a second bore with at least a portion of the second bore substantially aligned with the first bore of the exhaust outlet. An actuator coupled with the exhaust outlet and the exhaust outlet tip with at least a portion of the exhaust outlet tip to rotate the exhaust outlet tip relative to the exhaust outlet. The exhaust outlet tip rotatable three hundred and sixty degrees about the longitudinal axis of the exhaust outlet.

Well site noise control

The abrupt cessation or run-away of a combustion engine may damage the combustion engine and pose a safety hazard to the surrounding environment. The combustion engine operational mode may be controlled, regulated or maintained by regulating the combustion mixture of the combustion engine. The oxidizer flow, a material or both of the combustion mixture may be regulate to create or form a combustion material that is outside a combustible range such that the combustion engine is placed or maintained in a spin-down operational mode. The material added to the combustion mixture may include a combustible, non-combustible, oxidizer, or exhaust material. A brake may also provide a secondary mechanism to maintain or place the combustion engine in a spin-down mode.

Control of combustion engine shut down

Methods and systems for delivering fluids such as fluid fuel to equipment are disclosed. A fluid delivery apparatus may be detachably couplable to a towing vehicle. It may include a fluid inlet for detachable coupling to a fluid source, a conduit, and a trailer frame that doubles as a ramp permitting traffic to pass over the conduit, as well as a reel and hose for detachable coupling to a piece of equipment. The conduit may be in fluid communication with the fluid inlet such that the fluid may flow from the source, to the inlet, through the conduit, into the hose, and to the piece of equipment. Methods of using a fluid delivery apparatus may include delivering a fluid fuel to a piece of equipment at a first location, towing the apparatus to a second location, and delivering fluid fuel to a second piece of equipment at the second location.
