The present invention provides an omni-directional antenna element configuration having a compensated radiation pattern. Broadband antenna elements are coplanarly disposed on a suitable planar dielectric material. A single element or antenna comprises a pair of balanced fed radiating microstrip elements symmetrically disposed about the centerline of a balanced signal feed network. Additionally, a pair of pattern augmentation rods positioned on each side of and proximate to the planar dielectric material running longitudinally to the centerline axis of a balanced feed network. Disposed proximate to each radiating element are partially coplanar, frequency bandwidth expanding microstrip lines. The combination of radiating elements together with pattern augmentation rods provides a broad bandwidth omni-directional radiating element suitable for use in multi-element antenna arrays.

Omni directional broadband coplanar antenna element

An assembly for a mobile communications antenna system includes a bracket assembly onto which an antenna array is mounted. The bracket assembly includes a steering arrangement configured to provide angular adjustment of an antenna beam azimuth, and an electromechanical tilting arrangement configured to adjust a tilt position of the antenna array. The steering arrangement and the electromechanical tilting arrangement are controllable in remote and manual operational modes to independently and variably adjust both azimuthal angle and tilt position of the antenna array. These operational modes ensure remote control of signal propagation and network coverage accuracy, and manual adjustment of the azimuth of the antenna beam and tilt position of the antenna array in case of field service or component failure.

A two-way terrestrial antenna, employing electrical down tilt and azimuth beam adjustment capability is disclosed. Such antenna configuration allows for a variable antenna coverage footprint within designated coverage sector. To compensate for installation support structure variations the two-way antenna employs a positional sensor that can provide feedback to BTS or automatically compensate azimuth and tilt beam angles so as to provide uniform sector coverage. In particular by monitoring tri-vector gravitational inclinometer and earth magnetic field sensors, and determining correction factors for antenna tilt and azimuth beam adjustments, uniform or compensated sector coverage is provided.

An antenna architecture with enhanced emission directivity is disclosed. The antenna comprises a dielectric structure positioned over a plurality of radiator elements. The dielectric structure comprises columns of dielectric disks positioned above each radiator element. The antenna is driven by beam forming networks to form multiple, simultaneously steerable beams or a single main beam that can be dynamically steered.

A delay mismatched feed forward power amplifier is disclosed. Loopincludes a main amplifier and is used to derive a carrier cancelled sample of the main amplifier output. Loopincludes an error amplifier used to amplify the carrier cancelled signal derived from Loopoperation in order to cancel distortion products generated due to the nonlinear nature of the main amplifier. Loopalso utilizes a very short Loopdelay line. A significant efficiency gain is provided due to reduced output power losses associated with the Loopdelay line. Lower output losses also results in lower distortion levels produced by the main amplifier. This, in turn, reduces the size and performance requirements placed on the error amplifier. A smaller and more efficient error amplifier is employed resulting in further amplifier system efficiency improvement. The delay mismatch is compensated by a third control loop, a special adaptive control algorithm or a combination thereof.

A feed forward power amplifier is disclosed which utilizes three signal cancellation loops. Loopincludes a main amplifier and is used to derive a carrier cancelled sample of the main amplifier output. Loopincludes an error amplifier used to amplify the carrier cancelled signal derived from Loopoperation in order to cancel distortion products generated due to the nonlinear nature of the main amplifier. Loopalso utilizes a very short Loopdelay line. A significant efficiency gain is provided due to reduced output power losses associated with the Loopdelay line. Lower output losses also results in lower distortion levels produced by the main amplifier. This, in turn, reduces the size and performance requirements placed on the error amplifier. A smaller and more efficient error amplifier is employed resulting in further amplifier system efficiency improvement. A spurious signal detector for out-of-band distortion detection and an associated microcontroller for Loopand Loopcontrol are also provided. A third signal cancellation loop is utilized to sample the amplifier output and reduce the carrier level of the signals sampled at the output of the amplifier before providing the sampled output to the spurious signal detector. By significantly reducing the carrier power level relative to distortion power levels a cost effective spurious signal detector can be utilized. This also provides a faster conversion time in Loopcancellation and enhanced cancellation of out-of-band distortion products due to a greater useful dynamic range available for the DSP employed in the spurious signal detector.
