Methods and systems address a situation in which an autonomous vehicle encounters an object while driving. A system may include determining a vehicle trajectory of a subject vehicle passing over the object detected in front of the subject vehicle, and in response to determining the vehicle trajectory, generating a vehicle deceleration plan for approaching the object and traveling over the object. The system may include executing the vehicle deceleration plan as the subject vehicle travels over the object, where the vehicle deceleration plan is based on a preceding vehicle located behind the subject vehicle and a reaction time of the preceding vehicle as it reacts to deceleration of the subject vehicle.

A method can be used for automatic lateral repositioning of a child safety seat on a back seat of a motor vehicle. The child safety seat is configured to move laterally across the back seat between lateral sides of the motor vehicle. The method includes determining the lateral position of the child safety seat on the back seat of the motor vehicle, determining a current or intended parking situation of the motor vehicle, deciding which lateral side of the motor vehicle is a preferred access side for the determined parking situation, and laterally repositioning the child safety seat to a preferred position at the preferred access side of the motor vehicle.

A vehicle and a method for enhancing wireless communication for the vehicle are provided. The vehicle includes a glass panel that is disposed on a roof of the vehicle and an electrically conductive coating applied to the glass panel. The conductive coating is electrically connected to an electrically conductive portion of a vehicle body. The method for enhancing wireless communication for the vehicle includes coating a glass panel of a vehicle roof with an electrically conductive coating and electrically connecting the conductive coating to an electrically conductive portion of a vehicle body.

Disclosed herein is a system for wirelessly transferring electric power from one electric vehicle to another, and a method of transferring charge. The charging system may establish a communications link between a buying vehicle and a selling vehicle, and may communicate with a marketplace server to facilitate the financial transactions associated with transferring electric power. The disclosure provides for a vehicle-to-vehicle transfer of charge while the vehicles are in motion.

Disclosed herein is a vehicle component, such as a wheel, for use in a vehicle-to-vehicle charging system. The charging system may include a coil disposed about a barrel of a wheel, and in electrical connection with the battery of the vehicle. An automated collision mitigation system of a vehicle includes a vehicle controller, a free space monitor unit, a rear collision monitor unit, a communicator, a drivetrain system and a braking system. A method includes: detecting a position of a moving, wireless charging-capable vehicle which travels over a primary coil of a wireless charging system operable to wirelessly charge the vehicle via a secondary coil installed in the vehicle; controlling the plurality of cross-coil junction units such that electric current flows through one or both of the top coil and the bottom coil in a manner which produces a first angle of magnetic flux for optimally wirelessly charging the vehicle given a position of the primary coil in relation to the detected position of the vehicle; and when a switching time occurs, controlling the plurality of cross-coil junction units to change the flow of electric current through one or both of the top coil and the bottom coil in a manner which produces a second angle of magnetic flux for optimally wirelessly charging the vehicle given the position of the primary coil in relation to an updated position of the vehicle as the vehicle traverses the primary coil.

An assembly and method are provided for detecting an object within a wireless charging region of an electric vehicle. The method includes applying by a controller, a voltage to the wireless charging region to generate a capacitance value and measuring by the controller, the capacitance value of an electromagnetic shield disposed on the underside of the vehicle. Further, the controller monitors the capacitance value of the electromagnetic shield; and the controller detects a change in the capacitance value when the object enters the wireless charging region.

A method includes detecting that a wireless charging-capable vehicle is in a charging position proximate a primary coil of a wireless charging system that is operable to wirelessly charge the vehicle via a secondary coil installed in the vehicle. The primary coil includes a top coil and a bottom coil that are substantially parallel to one another, the top coil and the bottom coil coupled to one another via a plurality of cross-coil junction units each including a switching element that routes electric current through at least a portion of one or more of the top coil and the bottom coil. The method further includes setting the switching elements such that current flowing through the primary coil produces an optimal angle of magnetic flux for wirelessly charging the vehicle given a position of the primary coil with respect to a position of the secondary coil, and causing electric current to flow through the primary coil according to the set switching elements to wirelessly charge the vehicle.
