Techniques for enhancing performance in Industrial Internet-of-Things (IIoT) scenarios, including techniques for time-sensitive networking (TSN) and 5G wireless network integration. An example method, performed by a wireless device, comprises receiving system information (SI) from a radio base station (RBS) of a radio access network (RAN), the SI being indicative of support for TSN through the RBS, and establishing at least one TSN stream with an external data network, through the RBS. The example method further includes receiving a first timing signal from the wireless communications network, via the RBS, receiving a second timing signal from the external TSN data network to which the wireless device is connected, comparing the first timing signal to the second timing signal to determine an offset, and transmitting the offset to the wireless communications network.

Industrial automation with 5G and beyond

A user equipment (UE) selects first and second radio resources from respective first and second pools of radio resources. In one example these are primarily allocated for contention-free and scheduling-based channel access, respectively. Content to duplicate in parallel communications is selected based at least on a characteristic of uplink data waiting to be sent (such as size) and/or on the selected first and second radio resources (such as timing difference between them). The UE transmits the selected content on each of the selected first and second radio resources. In the examples the content to duplicate was selected from among the uplink data to send and a scheduling request message. In various embodiments one of these transmissions indicates it's a duplicate, and the duplicated scheduling request message is transmitted on the first resource with the uplink data. These teachings are particularly useful for URLLC data.

Ultra-reliable low-latency communications support using grant free transmissions

A technique includes determining a number of available resources for a category of user devices, determining a number of user devices, within the category of user devices, that are connected to a base station, determining whether the number of available resources is greater than or equal to the number of connected user devices, allocating resources to one or more user devices within the category of user devices using a scheduling-based resource allocation if the number of available resources for the category is greater than or equal to the number of connected user devices within the category of user devices, and otherwise, allocating resources to one or more user devices within the category of user devices using a contention-based resource allocation if the number of available resources for the category is less than the number of connected user devices within the category of user devices.

Flexible resource usage between scheduling-based and contention-based resource access for wireless networks

To efficiently use uplink resources while fulfilling latency requirements of low latency services, an access node, a resource pool allocated for contention based transmissions of low latency communication services may be used for transmissions of data services, since an access node providing the resource pool, is caused to send, in response to not being able to decode terminal device identification information from a sensed scheduling request, a stop instruction to terminal devices that are using the resource pool to transmissions of the data services. Further, the terminal device that sent the scheduling request is caused to use the resource pool for transmissions of the low latency service if a response is not received within predetermined time.

Uplink resources for ultra-reliable and low latency communication

A method is provided including configuring, by a network node, a set of resources to be used by at least one user equipment for transmitting a first type of uplink data; receiving from the at least one user equipment information that indicates that at least one resource in the set of resources comprises a second type of uplink data different than the first type of uplink data; and decoding data received on the at least one resource based on the information.

Transmission of signaling indication for intra-UE punctured uplink transmissions

A method may include transmitting, by a user equipment, a data packet to a network entity. The method may further include starting, by the user equipment, a timer with a first value associated with the transmission to the network entity. The method may further include checking, by the user equipment, for feedback from the network entity associated with the transmission to the network entity. The method may further include determining, by the user equipment, that no feedback for the transmission has been received within the associated timer, or a negative acknowledgement has been received without the corresponding resource allocation for re-transmission. The method may further include in response to receiving no feedback associated with the transmission within the associated timer, or receiving a negative acknowledgement without the corresponding resource allocation for re-transmission, re-transmitting, by the user equipment, the data packet to the network entity.

Uplink grant-free transmission enhancement for latency and reliability

A technique includes receiving, by a first user device from a base station, control information indicating an assignment of the first user device to a first scheduling request sub-pool of resources of one or more scheduling request sub-pools, and an assignment of the first user device to a first data sub-pool of resources of one or more data sub-pools, wherein the sub-pools assigned to the first user device allow a contention-based grant-free mode transmission from the first user device of both a data and a scheduling request at the same time via different resources, wherein for at least a plurality of user devices no two user devices are assigned to both a same data sub-pool and a same scheduling request sub-pool.
