Methods and systems for achieving a high frame rate video with compatibility for existing receivers without depending bitstream encoding are provided herein. For example, an apparatus comprises: a memory; and one or more processors configured to execute instructions stored in the memory. The instructions comprise: receiving a first bitstream having a first packet identifier ('PID') and a second bitstream having a second PID; decoding the first bitstream and the second bitstream; and interleaving the decoded first bitstream and the decoded second bitstream to form a high frame rate video signal, wherein the high frame rate video signal has a frame rate equal to the sum of the frame rate of the decoded first bitstream and the decoded second bitstream.

High frame rate video compatible with existing receivers and amenable to video decoder implementation

Methods and systems for pre-conditioning a video stream are provided herein. For example, an apparatus comprising a memory and one or more processors configured to execute instructions stored in the memory are provided. The instructions: identify packets of a first bitstream in a transport stream, such first bitstream corresponding to a base layer; identify packets of a second bitstream in the transport stream, such second bitstream corresponding to an enhancement layer; identify an initial packet corresponding to an ith picture in the first bitstream; identify an initial packet corresponding to the ith picture in the second bitstream; and reorder packets in the transport stream such that the initial packet corresponding to the ith picture in the second bitstream occurs after the initial packet corresponding to the ith picture in the first bitstream.

Packet placement for scalable video coding schemes

A method and apparatus is described to display a customized video sequence during a channel change interval. The method includes displaying a first channel; receiving a channel change request from a user requesting a second channel for display; displaying a video sequence during the channel change interval; and displaying a second channel; characterized in that the displaying of the video sequence during the channel change interval further comprises displaying a black screen with no audio and no video for a short duration; playing out a first portion of a customized video sequence relevant to the second channel entirely; and playing out a second portion of the customized video sequence relevant to the second channel until the second channel is ready to be displayed.

Customized zapping

A power saving device is described that is disposed in use between a further device and a mains power supply for supplying power to the further device. The power saving device includes: a communications channel input connected in operation to a communications channel output of the further device. The communications channel input is operable to receive control instructions from the further device. The power saving device also includes: a switch for disconnecting the further device from the mains power supply in response to the control instructions received from the further device; and an internal power source operable to provide power to the power saving device.
