A multiphase fuel injector has an injector body with a fuel inlet at a first end and a fuel outlet at a second end opposite the first end. A primary circuit disposed proximate the fuel inlet extends into a central portion of the injector body. The primary circuit is configured to receive a first flow of pressurized fuel from the fuel inlet that discharges into a spin chamber in the injector body downstream from the fuel inlet. The primary circuit is configured to impart a swirling action to the first flow of pressurized fuel. A secondary circuit is located in the injector body radially outward from the primary circuit. The secondary circuit is configured to receive a second flow of pressurized fuel from the fuel inlet that discharges into the fuel outlet. The secondary circuit is configured to impart a swirling action to the second flow of pressurized fuel.

The subject matter of this specification can be embodied in, among other things, a method that includes igniting an igniter stage configured to ignite combustion in a turbine combustor assembly, receiving pressure signals from a pressure sensor configured to sense pressure in the turbine combustor assembly, and controlling operation of the igniter stage based on the received pressure signals.

The subject matter of this specification can be embodied in, among other things, a turbine combustor assembly includes a primary combustion chamber in fluid communication with a primary fuel injector and a primary air inlet, and an igniter carried by the primary combustion chamber and including a first igniter stage having an auxiliary combustion chamber housing comprising a mixing chamber and a tubular throat converging downstream of the mixing chamber, an ignition source projecting into the mixing chamber of the auxiliary combustion chamber, and a second igniter stage that includes an auxiliary fuel outlet manifold proximal to an outlet of the tubular throat.

A gas turbine combustor assembly includes: a primary combustion chamber in fluid communication with a primary fuel outlet of a primary fuel injector; a torch igniter coupled to the primary combustion chamber, the torch igniter including an auxiliary combustion chamber and an auxiliary fuel injector having an auxiliary fuel outlet in fluid communication with the auxiliary combustion chamber; and a fuel circuit including a first supply flowpath between a fuel inlet and the primary fuel injector, a second supply flowpath between the fuel inlet and the auxiliary fuel injector, and a bypass flowpath between the auxiliary fuel injector and the primary fuel injector.

Combustor assembly with primary and auxiliary injector fuel control

A torch igniter includes an auxiliary fuel injector; an ignition source; and an igniter body carrying the auxiliary fuel injector and the ignition source. The igniter body includes an auxiliary combustion chamber having a side wall extending axially from a first end wall to a second end wall. In some examples, at least a portion of the side wall includes a distributed pattern of cooling apertures, with each of the cooling apertures extending obliquely from an outer surface of the side wall to an inner surface of the side wall. In some examples, the second end wall defines a fluid outlet leading to an outlet tube in fluid communication with the primary combustion chamber, at least a portion of the outlet tube including a distributed pattern of dilution apertures.

Auxiliary torch ignition

A torch igniter includes an auxiliary fuel injector; an ignition source; and an igniter body carrying the auxiliary fuel injector and the ignition source. The igniter body includes an auxiliary combustion chamber having a side wall extending axially from a first end wall to a second end wall, the side wall defining an interior cavity between the first and second end walls. The igniter body further includes a premixing cup residing within the interior cavity including a cylindrical wall radially surrounding the auxiliary fuel injector and an auxiliary air inlet, the cylindrical wall of the premixing cup protruding axially outward relative to the first end wall of the auxiliary combustion chamber through a portion of the interior cavity to delineate a premixing zone radially inward of the cylindrical wall and a recirculation zone radially outward of the cylindrical wall.

Auxiliary Torch Ingnition

A gas turbine combustor assembly includes a primary combustion chamber in fluid communication with a primary fuel injector and a primary air inlet. A torch igniter is carried by the primary combustion chamber, and includes an auxiliary combustion chamber housing comprising a mixing chamber and a throat region converging downstream of the mixing chamber. An air swirler including a plurality of swirl openings surrounding an outlet of an auxiliary fuel injector is coupled to the auxiliary combustion chamber proximate the mixing chamber. An ignition source projects into the mixing chamber of the auxiliary combustion chamber.
