Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a user equipment may determine that a reselection timer has an expiration time that is to extend an active period of a discontinuous reception (DRX) cycle; determine whether to extend the active period based at least in part on at least one of a set of serving cell measurements or a duration that the expiration time is to extend the active period; and selectively extend the active period or enter a sleep mode without extending the active period based at least in part on determining whether to extend the active period. Selective extension of an active period of a DRX cycle for reselection

Disclosed is a method and apparatus for exploiting Radio Access Technology (RAT) system information blocks for global navigation satellite system (GNSS) positioning. The method may include processing, by a mobile device with carrier aggregation, a voice call via a first RAT, the processing of the voice call causing second RAT capabilities of the mobile device to go out of service. The method may also include accessing a communications network using the second RAT with an available receiver of the mobile device during the voice call via the first RAT. The method may also include obtaining, with the available receiver, timing information from one or more broadcast system information blocks of the second RAT, and determining a time based, at least in part, on the obtained timing information.

Method and apparatus for exploiting radio access technology system information blocks for time transfer based positioning

A wireless device includes a first antenna and a second antenna that may be used to communicate with a wireless network. The wireless device initiates a traffic call with a wireless network and activates a first antenna to be used to communicate with the wireless network upon initiating the traffic call. The wireless device selectively activates a second antenna, when initiating the traffic call, based at least in part on a usage of the second antenna during a previous traffic call. For example, the wireless device may maintain the second antenna in an inactive state if the second antenna was deactivated during the previous traffic call and/or remained inactive for at least a threshold duration.

Techniques and apparatuses for improved neighbor selection in 5G cellular systems

Apparatuses and methods for a wireless communication device having a first radio access technology (RAT) and a second RAT to set up a call for the second RAT is described herein, including, but not limited to, detecting a call for the second RAT. In response to detecting the call for the second RAT, a fallback procedure is performed for the first RAT when network conditions associated with the first RAT are not below a threshold. At least one page response is transmitted after the fallback procedure has been completed.

Various embodiments include multimode communication devices and methods for managing usage of radio access technologies (RATs). In various embodiments, the multimode communication device may prevent scanning for a signal of higher priority RATs when a communication link is established with a lower priority RAT and the multimode communication device determines that the device is stationary. Signal characteristics of the communication link and/or other resources that can detect when the multimode communication device has moved may be monitored. In response to a change in signal characteristics or another indication that the multimode communication device has moved, scanning of higher priority RATs may be reactivated.

Managing usage of radio access technologies in a multimode communication device

Systems and methods are disclosed that may selectively determine network connection information in a wearable wireless device. A wearable wireless device may communicate with a first wireless device associated with a wireless network, estimate a separation distance to the first wireless device, and compare a first network identifier of the wearable wireless device with a second network identifier of the first wireless device. The wearable wireless device may then selectively receive, from the first wireless device, network connection information for the wireless network based, at least in part, on the comparison and the separation distance.

Method and apparatus for improving positioning performance on a mobile device with carrier aggregation capabilities

Various embodiments include methods and apparatuses for responding to a page message for a mobile-terminated call by a wireless communication device using a single radio Long-term Evolution (LTE) mode. A wireless communication device may receive the page message for the mobile-terminated call, release resources of the wireless communication device owned by a non-LTE voice radio access technology receiving the page message, and execute an extended service request by an LTE radio access technology. The wireless communication device may search for a network for responding to the page message after the extended service request is completed. The network may be from a set of networks including a serving pilot network, a preapproved pilot network, and an unapproved pilot network, and each of the pilot networks may belong to a first base station. The wireless communication device may send a page message response using the network in response to finding the network.

Various embodiments implemented on a mobile communication device leverage the availability of multiple RATs to receive service from a combination of RATs that avoids the potential for inter-RAT coexistence interference. A mobile communication device processor may determine whether there is a likelihood of inter-RAT coexistence interference between a first RAT and a second RAT. In response to determining that there is a likelihood of interference occurring between the first RAT and the second RAT, the device processor may attempt to receive service with the first RAT and a third RAT that will not interfere with the first RAT. The device processor may monitor conditions to recognize when the likelihood of interference no longer exists between the first RAT and the second RAT, and reestablish service with the second RAT when that happens. Thus, the device processor may ensure that service is only acquired with non-interfering RATs.

Avoidance of interference during simultaneous multi-active technologies in global mode

Methods and apparatuses are presented for acquiring a wireless system by a multi-subscriber identity module (SIM) user equipment (UE). For example, an example method for acquiring a wireless system is presented that includes conducting, by a first subscription corresponding to a first SIM of the UE, a call using a shared radio resource of the UE. In addition, the example method may include predicting, upon completion of the call, a pilot timing error and a frequency error associated with a pilot signal of a network associated with a second subscription corresponding to a second SIM of the UE. In addition, the example method may include attempting to acquire the pilot signal based on the pilot timing error and the frequency error. As such, the example method may allow the multi-SIM UE to more quickly acquire a wireless system relative to legacy methods. Other aspects, embodiments, and features are also claimed and described.

Fast system recovery in multi-radio-access-technology devices

Various embodiments provide methods implemented in a mobile communication device (e.g., a multi-RAT communication device) for maintaining at least one separate RGS value for each of a plurality of RATs operating on the mobile communication device. Specifically, a device processor on the mobile communication device (e.g., a crystal oscillator manager) may maintain a separate, up-to-date RGS value for each of the plurality of RATs and may associate each of the plurality of RATs with their respective RGS values. By keeping track of the plurality of RATs' respective RGS values, the device processor may ensure that an appropriate RGS value is used to facilitate each RAT's individual operations, such as acquisition/re-acquisition operations, sleep scheduling calculations, and handover/inter-RAT measurement operations. As a result, various embodiments may improve the performance of each RAT and the overall performance of the mobile communication device.
