A fuel and gas mixing structure for an engine is provided. This mixing structure includes a body configured to be positioned between a fuel injector and a cylinder of an engine. The body defines an interior volume that is configured to receive gas (e.g., air) from outside the body and to receive one or more streams of fuel from the fuel injector in the interior volume. The body also includes one or more upper channels and one or more lower channels that are configured to provide a substantially similar amount of flow relative to each other to the interior volume The body also defines one or more mixture conduits configured to conduct plumes of the fuel and gas, while mixing, from the interior volume to one or more exit ports and therethrough to the cylinder.

Engine mixing structures

A piston crown for a combustion system is disclosed. The piston crown includes a piston bowl having a circumferential recess and a plurality of first recesses arranged spaced apart from each other along a circumferential direction. The circumferential recess is disposed proximate to a circumference of the piston crown. Each recess of the plurality of the first recesses extends between a center of the piston crown and the circumferential recess, and a width and a depth of each recess of the plurality of first recesses are extended along a radial direction for an entire length of each recess of the plurality of first recesses.

Piston crown for a combustion system and an associated method thereof

A fuel and gas mixing structure for an engine is provided. This mixing structure includes a body configured to be positioned between a fuel injector and a cylinder of an engine. The body defines an interior volume that is configured to receive gas from outside the body and to receive one or more streams of fuel from the fuel injector in the interior volume. The body also defines one or more mixture conduits configured to conduct plumes of the fuel and gas, while mixing, from the interior volume to one or more exit ports and therethrough to the cylinder.

A compressor includes a plurality of gas bearing conduits and a plurality of gas bearing control valves. Each gas bearing control valve of the plurality of gas bearing control valves is coupled to a respective one of the plurality of gas bearing conduits. The gas bearing control valves are configured for permitting fluid flow through the gas bearing conduits when a piston of the compressor is positioned adjacent the gas bearing conduits in a chamber of the compressor.

A linear oscillation system comprising a housing, a stationary assembly, a moveable assembly and a suspension system is disclosed. The suspension system is mechanically coupled between the moveable assembly and the housing. The suspension system comprises a plurality of planar elastic members and plurality of longitudinal elastic members disposed between the plurality of planar elastic members. A first end of each of the plurality of planar elastic members is mechanically coupled to at least one of the plurality of planar elastic members. A second end of each of the plurality of longitudinal elastic members is mechanically coupled to the housing.

Linear oscillation system having a suspension system and a method for assembling the same

A controller, in electrical communication with the one or more of the injectors and a high-pressure fuel pump, generates a first signal responsive to which the valve in the injector opens or closes and a second signal responsive to which the high-pressure fuel pump increases or decreases the pressure level in the fuel accumulator. The system may also include one or more sensors to detect a pressure within the air manifold and to detect the pressure within the fuel accumulator. The controller is programmed to calculate an in-cylinder gas pressure. When the engine is operating at a maximum engine load and the in-cylinder gas pressure reaches or exceeds a maximum pressure limit, the controller transmits one or more signals to adjust the fuel injection timing and/or adjust the pressure in the fuel accumulator to maintain NOand fuel consumption within acceptable limits.

System and method for controlling the fuel injection event in an internal combustion engine

Method and system for emission control of a compression ignition locomotive engine. The method includes measuring an actual power level of the engine, comparing a desired power level with the actual power level of the engine; implementing a combustion strategy based on the comparing of the desired and the actual power levels; and implementing an emission strategy based on the combustion strategy. Method and system for emission control of a compression ignition locomotive engine

Combustion method, system, and article

A controller, in electrical communication with the one or more of the injectors and a high-pressure fuel pump, generates a first signal responsive to which the valve in the injector opens or closes and a second signal responsive to which the high-pressure fuel pump increases or decreases the pressure level in the fuel accumulator. The system may also include one or more sensors for detecting a temperature of air in an air manifold, a pressure within the air manifold and a barometric pressure. The controller is programmed to estimate an in-cylinder gas density using data received from the sensors. The controller accesses a database having data representative of one or predetermined in-cylinder gas densities that are associated with one or more predetermined fuel injection parameters. The controller then generates one or more commands indicative of the fuel injection parameters that are associated with a predetermined in-cylinder gas density.

A diesel combustion system with a re-entrant piston bowl utilizes momentum interaction with the bowl at multiple locations to cause recirculation of the partially burned fuel and combustion products in a toroidal flow so as to consume soot formed during an earlier portion of the combustion process, while reducing the formation of NOand improving fuel efficiency of the engine.

In certain embodiments, there is provided a method of providing a first fuel injection schedule having one or more injections per cylinder per compression stroke at a first discrete power level selected from a plurality of discrete power levels of an engine. The method further includes providing a second fuel injection schedule having a plurality of injections per cylinder per compression stroke at a second discrete power level selected from the plurality of discrete power levels of the engine, wherein the first and second fuel injection schedules comprise different injection characteristics from one another.

System and method for operating a turbo-charged engine

In certain embodiments, there is provided a method of operating a turbocharged system including injecting a first quantity of fuel into an engine cylinder at a first predetermined time during a second half of a compression stroke before a piston of the engine cylinder reaches top dead center of the compression stroke. The method further includes injecting a second quantity of fuel into the engine cylinder at a second predetermined time after the first predetermined time when the piston is advanced by a predetermined advance value before the piston reaches the top dead center of the compression stroke.
