A tethered imaging camera encapsulated in a shell lens element of such camera enables viewing from inside and imaging of a biological organ in/from a variety of directions. A portion of camera's optical system together with light source(s) and optical detector mutually cooperated by housing structure inside the shell are moveable/re-orientable within the shell to vary a desired view of the object space without interruption of imaging process. A tether carries electrical but not optical signals to and from the camera and controllable traction cords to move the camera, and a hand-control unit and/or electronic circuitry configured to operate the camera and power its movements. Optical imaging system with encapsulation and tether

A tethered opto-electronic imaging system encapsulated in an optically-transmissible housing capsule/shell and configured to image object space in multiple fields-of-view (FOVs) to form a visually-perceivable representation of the object space in which sub-images representing different FOVs remain co-directional regardless of mutual repositioning of the object and the imaging system. The capsule/shell of the system is a functionally-required portion of the train of optical components that aggregately define and form a lens of the optical imaging system. The tether is devoid of any functional optical channel or element. When different FOVs are supported by the same optical detector, co-directionality of formed sub-images images is achieved due via judicious spatial re-distribution of irradiance of an acquired sub-image to form a transformed sub-image while maintaining aspect ratios of dimensions of corresponding pixels of the acquired and transformed sub-images. Encapsulated opto-electronic system for co-directional imaging in multiple fields of view

Optical imaging systems configured to image object space in multiple fields-of-view (FOVs)&#x2014;front and lateral FOVs&#x2014;and form corresponding images that are co-oriented and co-directional regardless of mutual repositioning of the object and imaging systems. Images formed with such optical systems in which FFOV&#x2014; and LFOV-image portions are co-directional. Co-directionality of formed images is achieved due to direct imaging with a system utilizing a specific involute reflective surface or as a result of radial spatial redistribution of irradiance of an initial image(s), formed with a system devoid of an involute reflective surface, while maintaining aspect ratios of dimensions of corresponding pixels of initial and transformed images. Optical imaging systems and formation of co-oriented and co-directional images in different fields of view of the same

One embodiment of the invention is directed to an imaging probe which comprises a first element supplying electromagnetic radiation in a forward path for illuminating a forward field of view of space in front of the probe, a second element supplying electromagnetic radiation in a sideways and/or rearward path for illuminating a sideways and/or back field of view of space alongside the probe and an image sensor. The probe further includes an imaging device in imaging paths imaging the forward and sideways and/or back fields of view onto the image sensor. Preferably the forward path, the sideways and/or rearward path and the imaging paths are unobstructed by any component of the probe. Preferably the forward and sideways and/or back fields of view are registered in a fixed spatial relationship relative to one another on the image sensor. This probe can also be used with existing endoscopes or laparoscopes so that it will be easily merged into current instruments of different manufacturers, making it easier and cheaper to use this product without the expense of a totally new endoscopy or laparoscope platform. This probe can also be used to image objects in inanimate environments as well, such as in containers, buildings, rooms, engines and pipes.

Dual-view probe for illumination and imaging, and use thereof

Methods for reliable identification of low-contrast lesions within a tissue of a subject comprise delivering an excitation signal to the tissue, wherein the excitation signal is selected to stimulate tissue to produce autofluorescence and/or reflectance. The autofluorescence and/or reflectance is detected, and ratiometric images are produced based on the autofluorescence and/or reflectance images. An imaging system is provided which is configured to carry out such methods, irradiating tissue at a various possible excitation wavelengths, such as UV excitation wavelengths below 300 nm, to elicit fluorescence from specific native fluorophores.
