Systems and methods are provided for producing fluids with desired concentration factors. According to one embodiment, an arrangement of digital microfluidic (DMF) based electrode platforms are provided. The arrangement may be configured to carry out a sequence of mix steps that may demand storage of resultant fluid mixtures produced in intermediate mix steps. Such sequences of mix steps may be desirable as a result of the decreased demand for initial fluid samples, and reduced wastage.

Systems and methods are provided for producing fluids with desired concentration factors from the given supply of any two concentration factors, one greater than the target CF and one less than the target CF, of the same fluid. According to one embodiment, a method is provided that stores intermediate waste droplets from a sequence of mix and split steps and repeats certain steps of the sequence using the stored intermediate waste droplets. Such a method may produce additional target CF droplets faster than repeating the entire sequence. In another embodiment, a method of volumetric error resilient target CF droplet generation has been described, and includes reusing the stored intermediate waste droplets and involves a collection of capacitive sensing circuits associated with some electrode platforms.

Disclosed is a method and apparatus to provide for fingerprint minutiae matching using scoring techniques. A plurality of minutiae in a fingerprint image is defined. A score associated with each minutia corresponding to the validity of each minutia is estimated. The fingerprint image is then matched against one or more sample fingerprint images utilizing a partial point set pattern matching (PSPM) algorithm.

An Euler number representation of a binary image is calculated. The binary image is considered as a series of partial images. The Euler number for each partial image is calculated using properties of runs of zeros and ones in the pixel matrix, and the results are combined together. The operations may be performed sequentially or in parallel. The calculations may be performed using discrete logic components for on-chip VLSI implementations.

A method of encoding a watermark into a digital image. The method includes partitioning an original image into blocks and then determining a variance value of each block. The blocks are then arranged according to the variance values. A number of selected blocks are identified, where the number depends upon the size of the watermark. The blocks selected are then arranged by their location. Data from the watermark is used to replace bits in a representation of each of the selected blocks with data from the watermark. A method of decoding is also discussed.

A Mahalanobis distance measure is used to identify a query image among plural images in a database. The measure may be used to rank the similarity of one or more images to the query image. A variance-covariance matrix is calculated for all images in the database. The variance-covariance matrix is used to calculate the Mahalanobis distance between the query image and one or more images in the database. A range tree may be used to identify likely image candidates for performing the Mahalanobis distance measurement.
