Methods, devices, media, and systems are provided for presenting an accurate signal icon to a user equipment (UE). The UE first receives network downlink measurements from a network. The UE then measures downlink metrics and uplink metrics to assess multiple factors that may affect signals, and by extension, a user's experience. The UE then calculates a UE signal experience score based on the downlink metrics and the uplink metrics. The calculated UE signal experience score is then presented on the UE. The UE display may present the UE signal experience score as a number of bars, a presentations most users are already familiar with. Alternately, the UE signal experience score may be presented as a number from 0 to 100, with a user able to select which format the UE signal experience score is displayed in.

Accurate signal icon in both idle mode and connected mode

Systems and methods of a predictive handoff that cause a handoff of user equipment from one network site to another network site. A network site connected to the user equipment monitors a quality of a signal between the network site and the user equipment and receives movement information from the user equipment. The network site selects a potential network site for the handoff of the user equipment based on the movement information and a potential signal quality between the user equipment and the potential network site. The network site coordinates the handoff and causes the selected potential network site to transmit a handoff instruction to the user equipment. The network site also instructs the user equipment to listen for the handoff instruction and the user equipment and potential network site can complete the handoff.

Systems and methods of predictive handoff

The handset and base station disclosed save battery life and processor cycles by further analyzing communication types and patterns to limit communications to times and situations where communications are more likely and where battery preservation will have a significant impact. In one embodiment, the server side controls the timing of communicating voice signals, data signals and control signals to save battery life in a portable computing device.

Mobile computer device and base station to save battery life

A system uses signals received from actual user equipment (UE) to build in real time a reception pattern for base stations in a cellular communication system. Each UE is assigned a unique tone to broadcast so that a controller can analyze radio coverage by analyzing which base stations received signals from each UE in a coverage area. Cellular base stations necessarily have overlapping coverage and are assigned unique channel access values to avoid repeating values from overlapping cell sites. As overlaps change in real time, in response to live events, traffic jams, site outages, and new sites, signals received from UEs in the coverage area provide a real time view of system coverage. This allows better allocation of channel access values than prior art historical performance indicators using base station and controller call errors.

Network-based RSI/PRACH parameter planning and neighbor creation

A telecommunications network having enhanced or optimized quality of service (QoS) based on user behavior is described herein. A user behavior profile is generated by tracking the user's use of network services with corresponding location and metric information (e.g., QoS metrics). When a user equipment (UE) of the user connects to a network site, the user behavior profile is compared to a network profile site. The network site alters or adjusts one or more operating parameters to optimize delivery of a network service based on the user behavior profile. The user behavior profile is dynamic as it is continuously or repeatedly updated one or more records of interaction.

Enhancing telecommunication quality of service

Faults along a transmission pathway of a cell tower disrupt or prevent the cell tower from connecting user equipment (UE) to a cellular network. A cell tower monitoring and diagnostic system identify faults that occur along the transmission pathway and provide information regarding the faults to a network management center. The cell tower monitoring and diagnostic system can include multiple monitoring devices that are electrically coupled to portions of the transmission pathway. Each of the monitoring devices outputs an inquiry signal along the portion of the transmission pathway and receives a response signal in return. Each of the monitoring devices generates and transmits an output based on the response signal. A base station analyzes or evaluates the outputs from the monitoring devices to identify a fault on the transmission pathway. The base station can also determine the location and type of the fault based on the output.

Cell tower monitoring systems and methods

Systems and methods of biometrically authenticating a user of a device. A biometric sample of a user can be analyzed to generate a user-specific biometric signature that is substantially unique to the specific user. To authenticate a user, a biometric sample can be obtained and analyzed to determine if the biometric signature is present in the sample. If so, the user can be biometrically authenticated to use the device. The device can provide a network with an indication of the authentication of the user to authenticate the device to the network. In response to the authentication, the network can provide the device access to the network, its resources, or portion(s) thereof.

Device authentication

A computer-implemented method includes establishing a communication link between a first device of a first party and a second device of a second party that allows a communication between the first party and the second party, and periodically receiving a signal from the first device indicating a remaining battery power level of the first device during the communication. The method further includes communicating an alert to the second device over the communication link to notify the second party that the first device is near a battery power loss if the remaining battery power level falls below a predetermined threshold.

Systems and methods for responding to device battery power depletion during a communication

Methods and systems are disclosed that support the aggregation of acknowledgement messages and control messages. Advantageously, acknowledgement and negative acknowledgement indications for multiple client nodes are combined into a single aggregated message which is broadcast or multicast to the multiple client nodes. Based on unique identifiers assigned to each client node, client nodes are grouped such that the aggregated acknowledgement messages can be efficiently encoded to conserve both network capacity when they are transmitted, as well as processing capacity when they are parsed by the client nodes. If code division multiple access (CDMA) technology is used, the aggregated acknowledgment message can be transmitted without CDMA spreading to effectively broadcast or multicast it to multiple client nodes. A similar technique can be employed for the efficient broadcast or multicast of aggregated control messages.

Method and system for aggregating messages

An access terminal establishes a session with a first radio access network (RAN). As a result, the access terminal receives a Unicast Access Terminal Identifier (UATI) assigned by the first RAN and establishes configuration settings for radio communications between the access terminal and the first RAN. The access terminal moves from the first RAN to a second RAN. Before the access terminal has a session established with the second RAN, the access terminal receives a request from a user to originate a call. In response, the access terminal sends the second RAN a connection request that includes the UATI assigned by the first RAN. The second RAN evaluates the UATI included in the connection request and determines that it was previously assigned to the access terminal by another RAN. Based on this determination, the second RAN grants the connection request by assigning a traffic channel to the access terminal.
