A method, apparatus, and computer program product for detecting and switching between locally available PLMNs accessible to a user equipment based on a Preferred PLMN List and a Network Slice Aware PLMN Exceptions List configured by a HPLMN. The user equipment connects to a preferred VPLMN. The user equipment determines that a particular network function is not supported by the connected preferred VPLMN. The user equipment determines that another VPLMN is required to support the particular network function. The user equipment then switches to a non-preferred VPLMN which supports the particular network function. Once the particular network function is no longer necessary for the user equipment to perform a required task, the user equipment switches back a preferred VPLMN.

Method, apparatus, and computer program product for network slice aware public land mobile network selection

Methods, apparatuses, and computer program products are described that support access to multiple mutually exclusive, isolated, and/or disjointed network slices by User Equipment, UE, across one or more networks. The UE connects () to multiple network slices via a Radio Access Network, RAN, by way of one or more Radio Resource Control, RRC, connections. The RRC connections are maintained () between the UE and a respective network slice by switching the connection to inactive or idle when another RRC connection needs to be established. The UE and/or the RAN switches () an RRC connection from an inactive state to an active state based on a trigger condition such as receipt of a notification that downlink data is available over the inactive RRC connection. A Unified Data Management Function, UDM, stores and updates registration state information for the UE and multiple Access and Mobility Management Functions, AMFs.

A technique includes detecting, by a user device, a network slice associated with an access attempt by the user device to access a wireless network, and making, by the user device, a barring decision for the access attempt based on the network slice associated with the access attempt. Another example technique may include receiving, by a base station from one or more core network entities within a wireless network, network slice-specific load information that indicates a load for each of one or more network slices, determining, by the base station based on the received network slice-specific load information, a barring configuration that indicates a set of barring parameters for one or more access categories, and sending, by the base station to a user device, the barring configuration to reduce a load on the wireless network.

Systems, methods, and software of directly connecting a SIM-less device with a cellular network. In one embodiment, User Equipment (UE) includes a Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) provisioned with a plurality of subscription profiles for subscriptions to the cellular network. The UE establishes a direct communication with a SIM-less device that does not have a subscription with the cellular network. The UE selects one of the subscriptions provisioned in the SIM as a temporary subscription assigned to the SIM-less device to allow the SIM-less device to establish a direct connection with the cellular network using the temporary subscription, and transmits a message to the SIM-less device via the direct communication containing subscription credentials for the temporary subscription. The SIM-less device may therefore register with the cellular network using the subscription credentials provided by the UE, and establish a direct connection with the cellular network using the temporary subscription.

Techniques for providing a secure clock source in a communication network are disclosed. For example, a method comprises participating in a bi-directional authentication with a network entity in a communication network, sending a clock service request message to the network entity, receiving a clock service accept message in response to the clock service request message when the apparatus is eligible to use a clock service, and receiving one or more secure clock signals from the network entity. Another method comprises participating in a bi-directional authentication with a requesting device in a communication network, receiving a clock service request message from the requesting device, verifying the eligibility of the requesting device to request a clock service, and sending one or more secure clock signals to the requesting device in response to successfully verifying the requesting device.
