A method of billing for printing service costs is presented. The method entails examining the content of a page and applying a cost function to approximate the cost of printing the page. Examining the content of the page may include detecting at least one object in the page and determining an approximate area of coverage of the detected object within the at least one object in the page. The cost function can approximate the cost of printing the page using the detected object and the determined approximate area of coverage of the detected object.

Disclosed is a recording paper which comprises (a) a cellulosic base sheet having a first surface and a second surface opposite the first surface, said base sheet having a dielectric constant of at least about 1.5 under conditions of about 50 percent relative humidity and at about 23&deg; C., said base sheet having a dielectric constant of no more than about 10 under conditions of about 50 percent relative humidity and at about 23&deg; C., said base sheet having, under conditions of about 50 percent relative humidity and at about 23&deg; C., a surface resistivity of at least about 1&times;10 ohms per square, said base sheet having, under conditions of about 50 percent relative humidity and at about 23&deg; C., a surface resistivity of no more than about 1&times;10 ohms per square; (b) on the first surface of the base sheet an image receiving coating comprising a monomeric or polymeric material, said image receiving coating having a glass transition temperature of at least about 55&deg; C., said image receiving coating having a surface resistivity that is within about 10 percent of the surface resistivity of the base sheet, said image receiving coating having a gloss value of at least about 50 GU; and (c) on the second surface of the base sheet a back coating comprising a monomeric or polymeric material, said back coating having a surface resistivity that is within about 10 percent of the surface resistivity of the base sheet.

Electrostatographic recording paper

An improved apparatus and method for reducing media wrinkling, especially in envelopes, caused by transport through a fusing nip are provided. To compensate for stress build up in the media as it travels through the fusing nip, the media is bent or 'pre-stressed' in a direction opposite to the nip stress prior to the media entering the fusing nip. A media support surface is positioned upstream from the fusing nip to pre-stress the media by providing pre-nip bending to the media. The media is bent in a direction opposite to the curvature of the harder nip roller prior to the media entering the fusing nip. This pre-nip bending of the media substantially offsets the nip-stress imparted on the media by the fusing nip.

Apparatus and method for reducing media wrinkling in an imaging apparatus

A method and system media sheet handling in an electrophotographic color desktop printer are disclosed wherein a media sheet is imaged with toner on both sides of the media sheet without smudging or remelting the images. The temperature of the fusing roller and the pressure roller are controlled to keep the pressure roller temperature below the toner cold offset temperature.

Electrophotographic duplex printing media system

An improved apparatus and method for controlling media temperature to prevent image offset and degloss in an electrostatic image forming apparatus are provided. The apparatus and method utilize a plurality of media support surfaces in the pre-nip media path to reduce heat transfer to the media in this region. An insulating channel is provided beneath the media supports to thermally isolate the media supports. One or more insulating plates may also be provided between the rollers of the fusing nip and the media support surfaces to further reduce heat transfer from the fusing members to the media support surfaces and media.
