1. An autokey generator adapted for use in a secret communication system, comprising the combination of a source of binary digit pulse intelligence signals in digital mark-space from having a predetermined number of digital pulse intervals in each intelligence signal interval; a plurality of bistable switch means connected in sequence, each said switch means having a tripped state and a reset state, a source of reset signals connected to each of said switch means, said reset signals occurring at the end of each digit interval; means for tripping the first said switch means in response to the receipt of a mark pulse from said source of intelligence signals; means for setting each said switch means, except the first, in accordance with the state of the preceding said switch means upon the receipt of a said reset pulse, each said switch means having at least a pair of output terminals furnishing output signals of opposite polarity; diode matrix means having a plurality of output terminals, responsive to the respective outputs of said switch means for energizing individual ones of said output terminals in correspondence with particular combinations of output signals from said switch means, said matrix means being operated to pass said output signals from said switch means to one of said output terminals at a given instant, depending uniquely upon the configuration of polarities then present on said output terminals of said switch means, an autokey code output terminal, and means for connecting fewer than all of said output terminals of said matrix means in parallel to said autokey code output terminal, whereby said autokey code appearing on said autokey code output terminals contains a pattern of pulses determined by, but different from, the pattern of pulses appearing in said intelligence signals.

Autokey generator for secret communication system

1. In an autokey code generator for use in secret communication systems, the combination of a source of cipher text code in pulse form; a source of reset pulses having a repetition period equal to the cipher text code interval; a dynamic pulse storage network including an input connected to said source of cipher test code, a plurality of stages connectable in sequence to step the pulses of said cipher text code along said sequence under control of said reset pulses; each said stage except the first having at least one output, matrix means having a plurality of inputs and a plurality of outputs for obtaining at any given instant a signal at one of said outputs, the particular one of said outputs at which said signal is present being dependent on the combination of voltage applied to said inputs, said inputs of said matrix means being respectively connected to said outputs of said stages; each said stage except the first having first and second gate means, said first gate means being connected to transfer the output of the preceding stage to the stage connected thereto, said second gate means being connected to supply reset pulses from said source of reset pulses to the stage individual to said second gate means; said outputs of said matrix means being divided into first and second groups; said outputs in said first group being connected together to form an autokey code output and said outputs in said second group being connected to individual ones of said first and second gate means for the control thereof, whereby the operation of said stages from said cipher text code fed into said input of said network is modified as determined by the signal configuration present at said outputs of said matrix means.

1. A blanking wave generator comprising the combination of first and second sources of pulses operating in synchronism, said second pulse source having a lower pulse repetition frequency than said first pulse source, a first electron discharge device having a control electrode connected to said first pulse source, a second electron discharge device having a control electrode connected to said second pulse source, means for rendering said first discharge device conductive only upon receipt of a pulse from said first source of pulses, means for rendering said second discharge device conductive only upon receipt of a pulse from said second pulse source, a capacitor operatively connected to said first and second discharge devices, means including a source of potential and resistive means serially connected across said capacitor for charging said capacitor, said capacitor and resistive means having a time constant greater than zero but less than the repetition period of pulses from said first pulse source; means including said first discharge device for discharging said capacitor to a first voltage upon receipt of a pulse from said first pulse source, means including said second discharge device for discharging said capacitor to a second voltage when pulses are simultaneously received from both said pulse sources, a third electron discharge device having an anode, a cathode, and a control electrode connected to said capacitor; an anode-cathode circuit for said third electron discharge device; means for maintaining said third discharge device conductive when said capacitor is charged and non-conductive when said capacitor is discharged, said last named means including fixed bias on said cathode; and means responsive to interruption of current flow in said anode-cathode circuit of said third electron discharge device to develop an output pulse.

Blanking wave generator for binary code synchronizing system

1. In a secret communication system including a source of an intelligence signal wave, means for periodically sampling said signal wave at predetermined intervals, and means for developing from the samples thus obtained a first pulse train comprising groups each having n binary digits: means for developing a second pulse train comprising groups of n binary digits, (n-1) of said binary digits corresponding respectively with a selected binary digit in each of the preceding (n-1) groups of said first pulse train; means for combining said first and second pulse trains to develop a third pulse train; and means for utilizing said third pulse train.
