A method of determining electromagnetic exposure values for radiative compliance tests a transmitting device with multiple transmitters or antenna. The device transmits a first set of excitation signals that are chosen in advance. These signals are measured for their electromagnetic exposure values. A second set of excitation signals are then transmitted that are adaptively chosen based on result of a previous measurements of the first excitation signals. The second set of signals are also measured. From the measurements of the predetermined and adaptive signals, the electromagnetic exposure values of all possible transmitted signals are inferred.

Methods and apparatus for determining electromagnetic exposure compliance of multi-antenna devices

Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, receiving, by a first radio module at a first location, a wireless signal, to obtain a first received RF signal. The wireless signal includes information originating at a remote transmitter and conveyed via a wireless channel. An envelope of the first received RF signal is detected by the first radio module without requiring a local oscillator, to obtain a first baseband signal. The first baseband signal may be filtered and/or amplified, after which it is provided to a processor. The processor also obtains a second digital signal from a second radio module receiving the wireless signal at a second location and determines an estimate of the information originating at the remote transmitter according to the first and second signals. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Ultra-low-power millimeter-wave to baseband receiver module for scalable massive MIMO

Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, a non-linear energy detector that obtains baseband information from a mixed signal that corresponds to an information component of a received radio frequency (RF) signal, wherein the mixed signal comprises a local oscillator signal combined, without multiplication, with the received RF signal, wherein the received RF signal comprises a carrier wave component operating at a carrier frequency within a millimeter wave spectrum, wherein the non-linear energy detector is associated with a non-linear current-voltage (I-V) characteristic curve, and wherein the baseband information is obtained by applying the mixed signal to the non-linear I-V characteristic curve. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Low-resolution, low-power, radio frequency receiver

Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, receiving an RF signal having a carrier wave component operating at a carrier frequency within a millimeter wave spectrum and an information component based on a phase modulation of the carrier wave component. The received RF signal is divided into first and second signal portions that remain in phase with respect to each other. The first signal portion is delayed by one symbol period of the phase modulation and combined with the second signal portion to obtain a combined output signal. An in-phase portion of the combined output signal is detected via a non-linear energy detector, wherein an amplitude of the first detected signal corresponds to the in-phase portion of the received RF signal. The first combined output signal includes information of the information component. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Low-power, self-referenced receiver

Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, receiving, by a first radio module at a first location, a wireless MIMO signal, to obtain a first received RF signal. The wireless MIMO signal includes information originating at a remote MIMO transmitter and conveyed via a wireless channel. An envelope of the first received RF signal is detected by the first radio module without requiring a local oscillator, to obtain a first baseband signal. The first baseband signal may be filtered and/or amplified, after which it is compared to a reference value to obtain a first digital signal that is provided to a digital processor. The digital processor also obtains a second digital signal from a second radio module receiving the wireless MIMO signal at a second location and determines an estimate of the information originating at the remote MIMO transmitter according to the first and second digital signals. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, generating multiple digital reference pulses synchronously to a master oscillator, selectively switching the multiple digital reference pulses, and providing the switched pulses to multiple radio modules operating within a millimeter wave spectrum. For each radio module, counting cycles of an adjustable LO output signal occurring between consecutive pulses of the switched digital reference pulses, determining a difference between the count value and a reference value, and adjusting the adjustable LO according to the difference. A resulting corrected LO signal is synchronized to the master oscillator. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Local oscillator synchronization for coherent phased-array system

Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, receiving a radio frequency (RF) signal having a carrier wave component that operates at a carrier frequency within a millimeter wave spectrum. The RF signal also includes an information component based on a phase shift keying (PSK) modulation of the carrier wave component. A local oscillator (LO) signal is obtained, which includes an LO frequency that approximates the carrier frequency. The received RF signal and the LO signal are combined without using signal multiplication to obtain a first combined output signal. The first combined output signal being detected via a non-linear energy detector to obtain a first detected signal. The first output signal includes information of the information component. Other embodiments are disclosed.

A method for managing beam squint in a phased antenna array system operating at millimeter wavelengths using carrier aggregation includes determining a minimum array gain threshold, determining an upper bound for a fractional bandwidth for a fixed number of antennas, and constructing a codebook with a predetermined coverage range based on at least one of an angle of arrival or an angle of departure and further based on the upper bound. The method further includes performing carrier aggregation for the fixed number of antennas and selecting at least two antennas based on the codebook.

Mitigating beam squint in millimeter wave wireless communication systems

Embodiments of a method and apparatus for performing an adaptive transmission scheme in a frequency division duplexing communication system based on channel state information estimated using an open-loop mode are described herein. In one example, the method includes estimating an impulse response of a channel using a signal received over a first frequency band of the channel from a device, transforming the impulse response into a frequency response of the channel, and subsequently performing the adaptive transmission scheme using the frequency response to transmit a signal to the device over a second frequency band of the channel that is different from the first frequency band.

Adaptive transmit beamforming for frequency division duplexing systems

A method of aiding uplink transmission is disclosed. One method includes a base station downlink transmitting signals to at least a first terminal, the transmitted signals directed and conveying data to at least the first terminal. The method further includes a second terminal eavesdropping the transmitted signals, and measuring a signal quality. The second terminal estimates uplink channel information based on the measured signal quality, for aiding uplink transmission. Based at least in part on the estimated transmission channel, the second terminal transmits uplink signals to the base station.

Method of aiding uplink beamforming transmission

Methods and apparatuses of a mobile subscriber transmitting information to a base station are disclosed. One method includes identifying an uplink transmission condition. If the uplink transmission condition is identified, the mobile subscriber transmits a message over multiple uplink frames using multiple uplink frame types. The mobile subscriber may inform the base station that it is transmitting the message over the multiple uplink frames.

Embodiments provide WiFi and LTE tailored transceiver radio frequency (RF) filtering techniques and configurations to enable coexistence between WiFi and LTE transceivers operating in close proximity. In particular, embodiments provide filtering techniques to reject emissions from LTE into WiFi, and vice versa. The filtering techniques eliminate the need for additional isolation between LTE and WiFi antennas (approximately 50 dB), which is beyond what is achievable in practice. Embodiments can be tailored according to different use cases of the WiFi and LTE transceivers (e.g., fixed CPE, portable router, smart phone with tethering).

Embodiments of a method and apparatus for selecting one of several different power constraints under which sets of complex, beam weights are normalized are described herein. The embodiments of the method and apparatus specifically select the power constraint based on a code rate used to encode information carried by a transmit signal weighted by the sets of complex, beam weights. Appropriate selection of the power constraint can improve the bit error rate (BER) or block error rate (BLER) of the decoded transmit signal at a receiver.

A method for managing uplink communication in a wireless communication network is provided. The method includes selecting one or more Mobile Stations (MSs) from a plurality of MSs based on a first signal parameter corresponding to each MS of the one or more MSs, one or more second signal parameters corresponding to each MS of the one or more MSs, and one or more threshold parameters. The first signal parameter is associated with a Base Station (BS) serving a MS. Further, the one or more second signal parameters are associated with one or more BSs neighboring to the MS. The one or more threshold parameters are associated with a communication parameter. Thereafter, the method includes modifying an uplink Modulation and Coding Scheme (MCS) level of the one or more MSs.

Method and apparatus for managing uplink communication in wireless communication network

A method and apparatus of providing a base station with updated transmission channel information is disclosed. The method includes the base station transmitting beamformed signals to a first terminal. A second terminal receives the transmitted beamformed signals, and measures a signal quality. The second terminal conveys back to the base station the measured signal quality, and a transmission identifier of the beamformed data signal.
