A polyester filament nonwoven ply is suitable for roofing and roof-sealing webs and has a latent shrinkage force which counteracts drafting forces which may subsequently occur as the result of stresses or during thermal processing operations. The roofing webs thus remain dimensionally stable even when exposed to heat. The shrinkage force is obtained according to the claimed process by drafting the ply accordingly in a drafting mechanism arranged after a dryer.

The present invention relates to a low-flammability shingle comprising at least one double-sidedly bituminized textile sheet material to whose surface has been applied a pulverulent or flaky flame protectant at least single-sidedly, and to roofs comprising these shingles.

There are described a dimensionally stable laminate whose surfaces are formed by spunbonded webs and comprising at least two layers of spunbonded and at least one laid layer of reinforcing yarn, the laid layer or layers each being disposed between two layers of spunbonded and having a thread density of from 0.5 to 3 threads/cm, spunbonded and laid layers having been joined together by needling at about 20-70 stitches/cm,, a process for manufacturing this laminate, and its use for manufacturing roofing sheets and roof sealing sheets.

An improved bituminized flame-retardant textile material is provided that effectively overcomes bitumin adhesion difficulties associated with products of the prior art wherein the flame-retardant present on the surface of a textile support interfers with and hinders the achievement of bitumin adhesion. An anti-flame agent is applied in a quantity of 20 to 100 grams per square meter over 30 to 90 percent of the upper surface of the textile support. The remaining portions of the upper-surface of the textile support are free of the anti-flame agent. It surprisingly has been found that the surface portions of the textile support that are free of the anti-flame agent provide areas for the achievement of optimum bitumin adhesion with the textile support while still making possible entirely satisfactory flame retardancy for the overall product.

There is described a bituminous roofing underfelt comprising a spunbond of polyester, in particular polyethylene terephthalate, filaments having a filament linear density of 1-8 dtex embedded in a bitumen matrix, wherein the weight of the bitumen accounts for from 40 to 90% and that of the spunbonded for from 10 to 60% of the basis weight of the roofing underfelt, and the spunbond is consolidated by a meltable binder whose melting point is below the processing temperature of the bitumen used in making the bituminous roofing underfelt and which is present in the spunbonded in a weight proportion of from 5 to 20% of the total weight. The spunbonded preferably bears an embossed pattern, for example a plain-weave embossment. There is also described a process for manufacturing the roofing underfelt and the spunbond present therein.

There is described a sheathing web consisting essentially of a waterproof-coated spunbonded of filaments of organic fiber-forming material. The sheathing web has on at least one surface a structure in the form of a weave pattern for increasing the slip resistance, this pattern having been embossed into the spunbonded in the course of its production.

There is described a support web for roofing membranes which comprises a spunbonded made of polyester filaments. The spunbonded has a basis weight of from 50 to 100 g/m.sup.2 coupled with a filament denier of from 1 to 8 dtex and has been consolidated with a fusible binder. This produces a high tear propagation resistance and nail pullout strength and also good dimensional stability at high temperatures. The spunbonded support web is therefore particularly suitable for bitumenized roofing membranes.

A support web is described for roof foundation webs which comprises a spunbonded web of polyester filaments. The spunbonded web has a basis weight of 50 to 100 g/m.sup.2 and a filament denier of 1 to 8 dtex. It has been thermomechanically preconsolidated by means of a smooth calender and end-consolidated by means of a binder. This produces a high tear propagation resistance and nail removal resistance and good dimensional stability at high temperatures. The spunbonded web is therefore particularly suitable for use as a support web for bituminized roof foundation webs.
