A compound needle comprises a closing element with two closing element springs. These are designed to be asymmetrical relative to each other or at least provided with clearances or openings which, during the operation of the compound needle, are made to overlap with a corresponding cutout or other openings in the basic compound needle member, so that deposits can be removed to the needle channel. An asymmetric design of the closing element springs prevents the closing element from being wedged into the closing element channel, even if the deposit removal is incomplete. As a result, the compound needle wear is reduced considerably and the operational safety is increased.

A compound needle includes a shank having an end; a hook formed on the shank at the shank end and having a hook tip; and a closing element slot provided in the shank and being defined by two parallel shank flanks. The closing element slot extends from a location adjacent the hook in a direction away therefrom. The compound needle further has an elongated closing element received in the closing element slot for longitudinal sliding motions therein. The closing element has a hook-closing position in which the closing element is situated in an immediate vicinity of the hook tip. The closing element is composed of at least two side-by-side disposed, resilient closing element parts each having a free terminal leg oriented toward the hook. The terminal legs are bent away from one another to define a relatively narrow funnel having an open end oriented toward the hook and a beginning spaced from the open funnel end. The closing element parts are bent away from one another from the beginning of the funnel in a rearward direction away from the hook for resiliently contacting respective slot flanks at contact locations. The contact locations are situated adjacent the beginning of the closing element slot when the closing element is in its hook-closing position.

A latch needle includes a head; a cheek having two facing side walls each having an inner wall face and an outer wall face; a sawslot defined by the inner wall faces of the side walls; and a pivot pin being formed at least on one of the side walls by plastically deforming the side wall. The pivot pin extends from the inner wall face of the side wall into the sawslot. The latch needle further has a first depression provided in the outer wall face of the side wall in alignment with the pivot pin. The first depression includes a bottom having a peripheral region in which a second depression is provided. A needle latch cooperates with the head and has a latch shank accommodated in the sawslot. The latch shank has a hole into which the pivot pin extends for forming a bearing support for the needle latch.

A latch needle for loop-forming textile machines includes a needle shank having an upper side, a back and a sawslot extending into the needle shank from the upper side and oriented parallel to the shank. A hook is provided at an end of the needle shank. A spring element is disposed in the sawslot and has at least one end supported by the needle shank. A needle latch is supported in the sawslot for pivotal motion about an axis between a closed position in which the needle latch engages, with a frontal end thereof, the hook and a rearward position. The needle latch has a latch shank which includes an upper side and a lower side. In the rearward position the needle latch lies, with the upper side of the latch shank, on the upper side of the needle shank or is situated in the vicinity of the upper side of the needle shank. The latch shank further has an end part formed as a cam engaged by the spring element. The cam includes a component formed of a flat portion and/or a kink edge at the upper side of the latch shank. The component, cooperating with the spring element, determines and maintains the rearward position of the needle latch. The cam has an arcuate cam face adjoining the component and having, from the pivot axis of the needle latch, a radial distance which gradually decreases from the upper side of the latch shank towards its lower side.

A stamped knitting tool, such as a latch needle, has, on its shank, a lubricant distributing arrangement formed on at least one of the opposite broad shank faces for collecting a lubricant therein during operation of the knitting tool. The lubricant distributing arrangement is constituted by a region of reduced shank thickness extending transversely to the shank length from a distance from the upper shank edge at least substantially to the lower shank edge. The region of reduced shank thickness may be a chamfer, a recess or a depression.

A latch needle for textile machines has a needle shank having a longitudinal slot formed therein. The needle shank includes a needle hook located at one end of the needle shank, and two opposing shank cheeks each defining a lateral side of the longitudinal slot. A latch is pivotably disposed in the longitudinal slot. The latch has a bearing bore, and at least one annular ring projecting laterally outward from the latch and surrounding the bearing bore. A bearing device is attached to at least one of the shank cheeks and in communication with the bearing bore for pivotably seating the latch.

A tool for a stitch forming machine which includes a bed and a plurality of guide grooves disposed in the bed, the tool including a shank slidably disposed in one of the guide grooves. The shank includes an end having a stitch forming device, and has a butt and at least two bends spaced from one another along a longitudinal direction of the shank. The bends are oriented toward the same side of the shank and are disposed in a region of the shank which, during sliding movement of the shank during operation of the knitting machine, remains within the guide groove.

A latch needle for machines producing knit goods includes a needle shank having a slot, a needle head, and a latch. The needle shank has a first longitudinal plane of symmetry and the slot has a second longitudinal plane of symmetry. The latch is pivotably supported in the slot in the needle shank so as to be pivotable about a latch axis extending transversely to the second longitudinal plane of symmetry of the slot. The second longitudinal plane of symmetry intersects the first longitudinal plane of symmetry at an acute angle.

Latch needle for machines producing knit goods

A stamped knitting tool for knitting or weaving machines is provided having a shank which is provided with at least one foot and at least two guide portions which extend down to the lower region of the shank. These guide portions are connected above the lower region of the shank by means of a rib thereabove having a width of at least 1.1 mm and at least one of the guide portions supports the foot. The tool is further characterized in that a lower rib of about equal width is provided along the lower region of the shank.
