Content frames can be provided for productivity applications through a content frame platform. The platform can detect a sequence of similar documents ('a document run') and provide functionality to easily create the next document in the sequence through a content frame. The platform can receive a trigger for a content frame for a new document; and, in response, determine whether the new document belongs to a document run. In response to determining the new document belongs to a document run, the platform can determine at least two documents in the document run to be used to create the content frame and identify common content between the at least two documents in the document run. The content frame, which can include at least an outline for the new document and sections of updatable content for the new document, can be generated using the common content and provided for display and/or editing.

Content frames for productivity applications

A content creation application can include a feature that receives an inline note within a document and communicates the content of the inline note and a user identifier associated with an author of the inline note to an intelligence service. The intelligence service can identify, from the content of the inline note, one or more agents and a request, the identified one or more agents being the author, one or more person agents, one or more bot agents, or a combination thereof. Based on the identified agent (or lack thereof), the intelligence service can generate a message to each of the one or more agents and communicate the message to the each of the one or more agents over a communication channel. A person agent or the author can receive the message and view the message using the appropriate communication application without accessing the original document.

Hybrid intelligence approach to eliciting knowledge for inline notes

Author-created digital agents and content corpora for electronic documents are described. A content corpora service can include application programming interfaces such as for adding content to a corpus, attaching a corpus to a document, retrieving corpora associated with an author, and searching content of a corpus. An author-created digital agent can receive a request from a consumer of a document, determine corpora associated with the document, formulate a query based on the request, and search content associated with the corpora associated with the document.

Content corpora for electronic documents

Systems and methods are provided for identifying and managing trusted sources in online and networked content. URLs and other objects are vetted and identified as trusted sources based on the documents in which these objects are used or otherwise acted upon and not on the content of the URLs or other objects themselves. When a URL or other object is used in a document, the URL is given a score based on the use activity, attributes of the document itself, and, optionally, user history of the user. As users use that same URL with respect to their documents, the scores from those activities are accrued to that URL. A URL with an accrued score (value) above (or equal to) a threshold value can be added to a corpus of trusted sources that can be accessed when conducting research and/or by other applications and search engines.

Identifying and managing trusted sources in online and networked content for professional knowledge exchange

A research application and service are provided. The research application can be a mobile application, a feature within a word processing software, or an extension of a web-browsing software, through which a user can indicate a subject of research or assignment and receive a list of research topics from which credible research sources can be searched. The user can be assigned to a group identifier that identifies a group of users that can collaborate on a research project. Research sources selected and collected by the user can be stored associated with the group identifier such that members of the group can see and use those selected sources. In some cases, users can tag a selected source with another user's identifier so that the selected source can be saved in that other user's collection.

Author-created digital agents

Access and management of a user's content may be facilitated by, in response to receiving a request for content related to a specified entity from the repository associated with at least the user's account, identifying, in a content of a file in the repository, an entity container of at least one entity container associated with the specified entity; and communicating the entity container that is associated with the specific entity to a source of the request.

Access and management of entity-augmented content

A method of automatically augmenting content through augmentation services can include invoking a service to receive an entity determination based on the content and an entity container comprising an object of the content and one or more attributes of the object. The entity determination and corresponding entity container can be assigned as a marker to content being clipped. The marker can be used to enable access and actions that can be taken with respect to the clipping or the structured information augmenting the clipping.

Automatic augmentation of content through augmentation services

A system for reuse of content within documents can include storage media on which a document graph is stored, and indexing software that, when executed by a processing system, directs the processing system to at least: identify content component types within a source document; and represent content components in a document graph at least connected by 'contains' edge to source document. A search of the document graph for reusable content can then be directed to related content components including those of a particular content component type or relevancy.

Document storage for reuse of content within documents

Application programming interfaces (APIs) are provided that provide functionality of accessing, ranking, scoping, enrichment, cleansing, and cohort determination of content based on a corpus of trusted sources. For example, in response to receiving a request for ranked objects via a ranking API, a system can obtain objects from a corpus identified by the request for ranked objects and a corresponding rank and/or score of each of the objects and provide the objects and the corresponding rank and/or score of each of the objects to a source of the request for ranked objects, wherein the corpus stores identified trusted sources that are scored based at least on a document activity score.

Application programming interfaces for identifying, using, and managing trusted sources in online and networked content

A research application and service are provided. The research application can be a mobile application, a feature within a word processing software, or an extension of a web-browsing software, through which a user can indicate a subject of research or assignment and receive a list of research topics from which credible research sources can be searched. The application is used to browse research sources and select particular ones to a collection. The application sends the data regarding selected research sources to be stored and accessed later via the research service. When a user is subsequently in a productivity application/authoring canvas, the productivity application can access the data collected by the user. Feedback on what, if any, research sources are included in an authoring canvas is used by the research service to modify the research sources presented by the research application when the topic is next selected by that or other users.

Systems and techniques for graph-driven authoring in productivity applications can include using context of a user of a productivity application, the existing content of the user's document or an expression input with a command for finding relevant documents, and a date/time to obtain a set of results of relevant documents. The relevant documents include documents associated with people known to the user that contain content relevant to the topic(s) and/or entities from the context and that are current.

Graph-driven authoring in productivity tools

An assisted content authoring productivity tool can provide a set of content related to at least one topic determined from a user's expression of intent. The content can include topics that are not obviously related to the user's topic, but identified from indirect cluster connections found in a graph model of information such as, but not limited to, an online encyclopedia like Wikipedia. A document can be populated with topic anchors so a user can return to or have generated a set of content related to a particular topic. The topic anchor can include a graphical user interface including a topic exploration object that, when selected, initiates a command to request information related to that topic.

Productivity tools for content authoring

Documents can be deconstructed into component blocks for reuse in productivity applications using a document shredder. The document shredder can identify specific objects within a source document that are likely to be reused, replicate the objects, and store the objects, or component blocks, separate from the source document. The productivity application can access the objects and present these objects to a user of the productivity application for easy insertion into the user's document. The component blocks, or identified relevant objects can be from document sources of previously generated content from a same or different author than the user of a productivity application.

Deconstructing documents into component blocks for reuse in productivity applications

A shell application feature can include trigger information and logic. During operation, the shell application feature can receive an indicator that a trigger occurred; and, in response to the trigger, initiate its logic. The logic of the shell feature is locally performed to identify whether state, object type, user actions, or a combination thereof, with respect to the application satisfy a success criteria corresponding to behavior that will be a prerequisite for a potential feature that is not yet fully implemented. If the state, object type, user action, or combination thereof satisfies the success criteria, a success notification can be communicated to a feature collection service.
