A method and apparatus for moving a multipart sliding roof for a motor vehicle has a first angularly movable roof section, and at least a second and third roof section movable in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle for the positioned closing and opening-up of a roof opening. The longitudinally movable roof sections are controllable by means of an operating element for the selection of different defined roof positions, in which case, by means of the operating element, at least six switching positions and thus six different positions of the individual roof sections can be selected. After the selection of different switching positions by the operating element, the movement of different parts of the multipart sliding roof is carried out in a restrictedly controlled manner, without their movement having been selected by the operating element.

Method and apparatus for moving multipart sliding roof for a motor vehicle

Vehicle window panes for a convertible including a door window pane and a rear window pane which adjoin one another at a joint pane boundary line. When the door window pane is closed, the rear window pane may be in the open or closed end position and, when the door window pane is partially or completely lowered, the rear window pane is in an open position in every case.

A sliding roof for vehicles is movable in a power-driven manner from a closed position by moving a cover in a first moving direction into an open position and by moving a cover in a second moving direction into a lifted position. In order to provide a sliding roof of the type in the case of which the closed position is reached in a precisely reproducible manner, the closed position is always approached only from a single selected moving direction.

A control device for a vehicle having two roofs; a first roof which is permanently attached to the vehicle, and a second roof which can be removed from the vehicle. In order for the control device to no longer operate the first roof when the second roof is mounted and connected to a locking mechanism which serves as a releasable connection of both roofs with a windshield frame of a vehicle, a transmitter is arranged such that it sends a signal if the locking mechanism is in the proper locked position. A second transmitter is provided which sends a signal when the first roof is open. As a result, the control device suppresses the operation of the first roof if signals from both transmitters are received simultaneously.

A method controls opening of a folding top of a vehicle. The folding top is openable and closable in a power-operated manner, and a locking device is provided for the releasable connection of the folding top with a windshield frame. The position of the locking device is optimized during a movement of the folding top by operating the locking device so that it is in its locked condition in the open as well as in the closed position of the folding top.

A method controls opening and closing of a folding top of a vehicle. The folding top is openable and closable in a power-operated manner and is placeable in a folding top compartment which can be closed by a lid. In order to shorten the time required for the closing and opening of the folding top, at least the lid for the compartment is moved simultaneously with the folding top.

Switching apparatus including a switch is used for the control of a power-assisted convertible top of a motor vehicle which can be swivelled from a closed position into an opened position. For reasons of safety, the switch is disposed so that it can be used only when the motor vehicle is not moving. In preferred embodiments, the switch is disposed in a recess which is accessible only when a vehicle brake lever is in a brake engaged position.

An electric heating element for the elimination of condensation, frost or the like on windows of motor vehicles, preferably a rear window of a convertible top, is interconnected with an electric blower motor which includes a relay circuit. For safely operating the heating element, the heating element will only be operative when the blower motor is running. A first relay is used for the control of the blower motor and a second relay for the control of the heating element. The second relay, via a line of a control circuit, is connected to a connecting terminal of the blower motor.

An air conditioning system for a preferably air cooled vehicle has a housing having an evaporator, a chamber and at least one blower. The housing, by way of outlet ducts having individually blockable defroster, center and legroom nozzles, is connected with a passenger compartment. By way of a warm air duct having an exhaust gas heat exchanger, the housing is acted upon by warm air, by way of an inflow duct having a fresh air flap controlled by an electric motor, it is acted upon by fresh air, and by way of an inflow duct for circulating air, it is acted upon by air from the interior of the vehicle. In this case, warm air and/or fresh air and/or circulating air, by way of a temperature mixing flap, is guided to a blower, is swirled together and mixed in it, and subsequently by way of the individual outlet ducts, is guided to the passenger compartment. In order to avoid air throughput fluctuations, the fresh air flap is controlled as a function of the driving speed of the motor vehicle, of the position of the temperature mixing flap, of a rotational speed step of the blower and of a switching condition of an electromagnetic clutch of a refrigerant compressor.

Air conditioning system

To control the cooling air requirements of an internal combustion engine and additional assemblies on a motor vehicle, a combination of cooling air flaps adjustable by an electric motor and a ventilator blower whose rpm is adjustable and which are powered by electric motors is used. One closed, one partially open, and one fully open position of the cooling air flaps as well as the rotational speed of the blower are controlled as a function of the cooling requirements of the internal combustion engine and the states of an air conditioner, a temperature of an automatic transmission fluid, a temperature of an intake manifold of the internal combustion engine, and the position of an ignition switch and an engine hood contact switch in such fashion that a cooling air stream which changes nearly continuously with the cooling requirements is created in the cooling air duct. Advantageously, in addition to the optimum protection of the system and a favorable fuel consumption, a shortened warmup phase of the internal combustion engine and improved aerodynamics of the motor vehicle are achieved by limiting the throughflow of the internal combustion engine chamber with the cooling air flaps closed or partially open.

Cooling air flap and blower control for motor vehicles

Overload protection for the series resistance of an electric motor in which a voltage drop across the electric motor is monitored. During the occurrence of a reduced voltage drop, for example, as a result of a blocking of the motor or of a fan driven by the electric motor, the series resistance is short-circuited by a relay so that the blocking can be overcome by an increased driving torque of the electric motor or a fuse in the load current input line to the motor responds. As a result thereof, an effective overload protection is created which is of simple construction, involves no additional wiring expenditure and requires few additional components and which also permits to dimension the series resistance for normal operating currents and to be able to dispense with a thermal monitoring.
