A heddle shaft has only one heddle supporting member at the opposite ends of which side supports are provided to guide the heddle shaft in the weaving machine. The supporting member has a heddle slide bar and an auxiliary heddle holding element extending parallel to and spaced from the heddle slide bar. All heddles are held virtually without play at the heddle slide bar and are held with play at the auxiliary holding element, and the opposite free ends of the heddles are not firmly held.

The end loop of a heddle has at its opening an inner edge that comes into contact with the slide bar, the inner edge having an asymmetric contour relative to the longitudinal line of symmetry passing through the opening with an arc on the side of the back part which has a greater radius of curvature and an arc on the side of the free shank of the end loop which has a smaller radius of curvature. Compared with conventional heddles with short corner arcs at the inner edge of the end loop this end loop is strengthened, particularly in the zone of the back part prone to breakage, by the provision of the arc with the larger radius of curvature on the side of the back part. A rectilinear section connecting to the two arcs prevents jamming of the heddle on the slide bar.

A heddle is held at one single end section in a heddle frame having a single supporting member, the heddle being held by the provision of a groove-shaped opening to engage a slide bar of the supporting member with little play relative thereto. Another groove-shaped opening of the heddle at its one end section can be provided to engage an auxiliary slide bar on the supporting member with much more play relative thereto. The opposite, non-driven terminal end of the heddle is formed as a guide element to enable the automatic drawing-in of the warp threads. In addition, such guide element functions to line up the plurality of heddles present in the heddle shaft by the provision of a rod-shaped body which extends through aligned openings in the guide elements of the heddles, so as to prevent the heddles from shuttling back and forth in the weaving operation, and from mutually snagging at their terminal ends.

The end eyelet of a heddle comprises a back section lying opposite the hook end and having a gradually increasing width at the terminal end of the heddle for increasing the cross-section of the end eyelet at a zone of the end eyelet subjected to high stress.

In a weaving machine having a warp stop motion feature which includes upper and lower vertically aligned supports for supporting contact bars and guide bars, the lower support being cantilevered to a longitudinal beam, the warp ends extending parallel to the upper supports and through eyelets provided in drop wires resting on the warp ends which are carried by an upper surface of the beam. The beam comprises a hollow body having a wear resistant element mounted along an upper side thereof, the element being replaceable and being of a material harder than the beam itself.

A weaving reed comprises a plurality of flat reed dents stacked side-by-side in a reed channel or container, each reed dent having opposed end sections terminating in side edges, one of such end sections of each reed dent having an outer edge thereof provided with an identification notch spaced from the side edge at that end section a distance corresponding to the thickness of a given reed dent, such that stacked reed dents of like thickness will have aligned identification notches, and stacked reed dents of unlike thickness will have staggered identification notches relative to the aligned notches. Reed dents of different thicknesses are therefore immediately distinguished and can be easily sorted out.

The crossing thread supply system has four bobbin pairs which are disposed on rotatable disk-shaped elements. Each bobbin pair is guided downwardly through a tube which rotates with a respective rotatable element in non-rotatable relative relation. The tube extends obliquely so that all of the tubes deliver the respective thread pairs to twisting disks located in a relatively narrow lane.

The crossing thread supply system for the weaving machine employs a rotatable bobbin carrier and a thread tensioning means for controlling a thread pay-out from a bobbin on the carrier as a function of thread tension. The tensioning means employs a control lever which is pivotable under the influence of the paid-out thread and a pivoting lever which engages via a pawl with a ratchet wheel connected to the bobbin carrier. The control lever serves to pivot the pivoting lever when moved to an innermost position. This disengages the pawl from the ratchet wheel to permit indexing of the ratchet wheel and bobbin carrier.

A weaving heddle includes an elongated heddle shaft having U-hook shaped end loops at opposite ends for holding the heddle on opposed heddle carrying rods of a heddle frame. The loops include shanks for overlapping with the rods, and the loops have inner support surfaces spaced a predetermined distance apart and extending transversely of the shaft for engagement with the rods. One of such support surfaces is resiliently biased toward the other of such surfaces for accommodating any increase in such predetermined distance.

A heddle frame is provided with a frame stave having a heddle carrying rod connected to and disposed below the stave in spaced parallel relation. The ends of the frame stave are connected to lateral supports in such a manner that the lateral supports will be offset from the ends of said heddle carrying rod to allow for the placing on and removal of heddles on said rod without interfering with the lateral supports. Pivoted locking levers ae provided adjacent each end of the rod to selectively allow the placing on and removal of heddles on said rod.

A frame stave for a weaving machine heald frame is provided with an insert 4 or 6 to maintain the side walls 1, 2 under tension and thereby damp out resonant vibrations in the stave to reduce the operating noise level.
