The invention relates to a method of feeding welding wire ( ) from a wire supply reel ( ) to a welding torch ( ), having at least one welding wire feeder ( ) and an apparatus, in particular another welding wire feeder ( ), for applying a feed force, in particular a main drive ( ) and an auxiliary drive ( ), whereby a feed force or a pressure force, acting on the welding wire ( ) between the welding wire feeders ( ) is detected by a detection means, in particular a sensor, and compensated or limited. A deflection or lateral deflection of the welding wire ( ) is detected on the basis of the feed force or pressure force on the welding wire ( ) between the welding wire feeders ( ), in particular the main drive ( ) and the auxiliary drive ( ), and this deflection is used as information for regulating at least one of the welding wire feeders ( ).
