A drawn glass element for producing glass optical waveguides is provided. The element has two first length portions with a first cross-sectional area and which define the two ends of the glass element; a second, intermediate length portion between the two first length portions, which has a second cross-sectional area smaller than the first cross-sectional area; a first transition portion between the intermediate length portion and one of the first length portions; and a second transition portion between the intermediate length portion and another of the first length portions. The first and second transition portions have a cross-sectional area that steadily changes and merges from the first cross-sectional area into the second cross-sectional area.

A method for producing ceramizable green glass components provided, as well as apparatus for performing such method and ceramizable green glass components producible by such method. The method is a redrawing process in which a preform is heated, in a deformation zone, to a temperature that enables redrawing of the glass. The deformation zone is particularly small, which permits redrawing of the ceramizable green glass bodies while avoiding ceramization during the redrawing. The method provides plate-like or sheet-like green glass components that have a particularly smooth surface.

A method is provided for reshaping a glass body rotating about its longitudinal axis. The method includes using a means for establishing a temperature profile, a radial forming tool and an axial forming tool. In the method, a first temperature profile is established and the glass body is reshaped by engaging the radial forming tool. Then a second temperature profile is established and the glass body is reshaped by engaging the axial forming tool.

Method for laser-assisted reshaping of glass bodies

A method for producing a glass film is provided. The method includes: heating a portion of a glass preform so that in the heated portion the glass has a viscosity of less than 10dPa&#xb7;s, or drawing a glass from a melt; withdrawing the glass using a drawing device, wherein in case of drawing from a preform the drawn glass film is thinner than the glass preform; heating at least one point by means of a laser, the point being located in an edge region of the drawn glass film that is being formed by withdrawing the glass, wherein at the site of the laser focus the glass has a viscosity of not more than 10dPa&#xb7;s before the laser is switched on and wherein heating is performed in such a manner that at least one notch is provided in parallel to the drawing direction.
