A shaft encoder arrangement () provides high precision and at the same time can be used in harsh environments and is simple to mount. The shaft encoder arrangement () has at least one measuring device () for determining a rotary position of a rotatable body, for example, of a shaft () of a motor (), with at least one magnetic dimensional scale () that can be mounted on the body and at least one sensor device () for scanning the magnetic dimensional scale (). The sensor device () lies at least partially within a space () enclosed by the magnetic dimensional scale (), and the magnetic dimensional scale () is enclosed by a circumferential magnetic shield (). The magnetic shield permits use of the shaft encoder arrangement () even in harsh environments and even in strong magnetic interference fields.

A sensing head () for a transducer for capturing rotation or linear parameters, of a rotatable or linearly movable component, in particular of a shaft (), includes a housing (), a first sensor unit () and a second sensor unit () arranged on the housing () and arranged in a circumferential direction (U) of the rotatable component offset in relation to each other. The first sensor unit has a first sensor surface () and the second sensor unit has a second sensor surface (). Each of the sensor units () can be rotated about a rotation axis () such that the sensor surfaces () are pivotable to each other in at least two different angular positions. The rotation axes () of the sensor units () are located on the sides () of the sensor units (); forming the sensor surfaces ().

An incremental transducer () as well as a process (D) are provided for determining an actual position of a body () along a measuring path (W) and/or a change therein. A position code () of the incremental transducer () has a gap (). To make it possible to use the incremental transducer () as flexibly as possible and to operate it despite dimensional tolerances of the body (), provisions are made for converting an actual location frequency (Fi) of the position code () into a desired location frequency (Fs) that is independent from the length (L) of the gap () to generate a position signal (S) representative of the actual position or the change therein.

The invention relates to a rotary encoder comprising internal error control with a monitoring unit comprising at least a computing module, a verification means, a memory unit and an alarm unit. The invention also relates to a method for checking a rotary encoder when said encoder is in operation, the rotary encoder generating at least one measuring signal pair representative of the amount of rotation. In order to be able to determine the functioning of the rotary encoder, even when said rotary encoder is stationary, it is provided according to the present invention that a characteristic value should be created in the monitoring unit from current amplitude values of the measuring signal pair, said characteristic value being used in a comparison with at least one quality value representative of the functional states of the rotary encoder.

A rotary transducer has a detector device with a measurement sensor, used to generate a measurement signal representative of angular position and/or velocity of an object. The detector device has a rotary bearing and a material measure that can be rotated relative to the measurement sensor and is arranged in the measurement field of the latter. A monitoring device, connected to the measurement sensor, which can provide a state signal representative of the state of wear of the rotary transducer, is integrated in the rotary transducer. In order to be able to timely warn of mechanical failure of the rotary transducer, the monitoring device is provided with a register that can permanently store as value representative of the state of wear of the rotary bearing and is formed from the information relating to the angular position and/or velocity contained in the measurement signal.

The invention relates to a position measuring device and a position measuring system () that are used to process signals (SIN, COS), which represent the displacement () of a scale gradation () relative to a signal generation unit (). To increase the resolution of the signals (SIN, COS), output signals (SIN', COS&#x2032;), which have a higher frequency or multiplied number of signal periods in relation to the input signals (SIN, COS), are generated by the device (). This enables evaluation units () that are connected downstream to record the position and speed of the scale gradation () more accurately. The number of signal periods is increased by the calculation of a position signal (POS) with a subsequent filtration or error correction from the input signals (SIN, COS) and by the reading of stored tables of output tables of output signals (SIN&#x2032;, COS&#x2032;) in accordance with the calculated position signal (POS).
