A targeting device for x-ray locating during an extracorporeal treatment of patients with focused shock waves, particularly for a lithotritor, is suggested. The targeting device comprises a carrier on or in which x-ray positive elements, preferably metal wires, are arranged such that they point to the focal point of the shock wave system. In the x-ray image, the position of the elements clearly indicates the position of the focal point.

Targeting device for a lithotritor

A lithotripter includes a therapeutic head provided with a source for focusing shockwaves in a focal point on a first axis; an ultrasonic transducer having an axis for imaging an area in a patient in which shockwaves are to be focussed is connected to the therapeutic head for movement in relation to the head in isocentric relation to that focal point such that two axes intersect in that focal point, independently form a variable angular orientation of the axes to each other.

Transducer kinematics in lithotripters

A lithotripter has a source for focussed shockwaves and an X-ray device which is mounted for relative displacement and positioning in relation to that source of shockwaves; an improvement includes a device for aiming and sighting in cooperation with the X-ray equipment that includes a carrier element defining a first pair of X-ray contrasting aligned reference points and two additional X-ray contrasting reference points, on a second line and intersecting the first line at a point of intersection at about 15 to 45 degrees; and that aiming and sighting device is mounted in relation to said source of focussed shockwaves such that the point of intersection coincide with a focal point of the shockwave source.
