A retractor for a vehicle safety belt is provided, comprising a housing, a load bearing ratchet pawl supported in the housing, and a belt drum rotatably mounted in the housing. The belt drum is provided with ratchet disks at its axial ends. The ratchet disks are coaxial with the belt drum and are provided with a ratchet toothing at its outer circumference, into which the ratchet pawl can be engaged for locking the belt drum in the direction of pay-off of belt webbing coiled on the belt drum. The belt drum is further provided with energy take-up means arranged in the power transmission path between the belt drum and the ratchet disks. This energy take-up means are adapted to allow rotation of the belt drum in relation to the ratchet disks in the pay-off direction under heavy strain.

Retractor for a vehicle safety belt

A belt retractor is provided which comprises a housing, a belt drum mounted in the housing so as to be rotatable about an axis of rotation, and a spring drive for the belt drum. The spring drive comprises an output drive part connected with the belt drum in such a manner as to prevent relative rotation, an intermediate part arranged rotatably in relation to the belt drum and to the housing and being centered on the axis of rotation of the belt drum, a wind-up spring effective between the housing and the intermediate part, an auxiliary spring effective between the intermediate part and the output drive part, and a spring cover. The spring cover and the output drive part are provided with receiving means coaxial to the belt drum and having interlocking means for a pin. The pin is simultaneously engageable with both of the receiving means in such a manner as to prevent relative rotation. The intermediate part is rotatably mounted on the pin. Furthermore, a method for mounting the spring drive of a belt retractor to the belt retractor is provide.

Belt retractor and a method for the assembly thereof

The invention relates to a safety belt restraining system for vehicles comprising a belt retractor 10 and a webbing clamping means 12 arranged downstream of the retractor 10 and having two clamping wedges 46, 48 which are arranged opposite each other in a housing on either side of the webbing 22. The belt retractor 10 blockable in vehicle-sensitive and/or webbing-sensitive manner and the webbing clamping means 12 are connected together by connecting means 60, 62. With plastic deformation they yield and permit a limited moving of the webbing clamping means 12 away from the belt retractor 10 when the force exerted on the webbing 22 exceeds a predetermined value.

Safety belt restraining system for vehicles

A safety belt retractor is provided with a belt pretensioner device acting via a clamping roller coupling mechanism. A torsion rod (30) is arranged in the force flow path between the coupling mechanism and the belt drum (12) of the retractor, so that after tightening of the belt such torsion rod is twisted about its axis under the load transmitted by the belt with the consumption of energy. Owing to the plasitic deformation of the torsion rod (30), it is possible for the load peaks occurring following tightening of the belt in the belt system to be absorbed in order to increase the efficiency of the safety belt system.

This invention relates to a safety belt system for vehicles comprising a belt retractor 10 and a webbing clamping mechanisms 12 arranged downstream of the retractor 10 and having two clamping wedges 46 and 48 which are arranged opposite each other in a housing on either side of the webbing. When the slide faces 54, 56 bear on the support surfaces 42, 44 the clamping faces 50, 52 of the clamping wedges 46, 48 form an angle of about one degree with each other which is open in the direction G of the belt withdrawal. Holding devices 402, 404; 410, 414 are provided for holding said clamping wedges 46, 48 in said rest position with their slide faces 54, 56 inclined to said support surfaces 42, 44 and their clamping faces parallel to the webbing. The holding devices become ineffective under load so that the slide faces 54, 56 make a surface contact with said support surfaces 42, 44 and the clamping faces 50, 52 form an angle of about one degree with each other which is open in the direction (G) of belt withdrawal.

A safety belt retractor is associated with a belt retightener which comprises a coupling mechanism provided between a pulley and the belt spool of the retractor. After a tightening operation the belt spool is disengaged from the pulley. The coupling mechanism consists of a clamping roller mechanism and a coupling pawl functionally in series therewith to combine the fast and reliable response of the clamping roller mechanism with the easy releasability of the coupling pawl.

Safety belt retractor with tightening means

The safety belt takeup device with tightening means comprises for transmitting the tightening force to the takeup shaft a rotatable roller (18) couplable to said shaft via a coupling means. At the periphery of the roller (18) the tightening force engages via a wire cable (36). In the force transmission path between the cable (36) and the takeup shaft a limiting means is provided which limits the torque which can be transmitted to the takeup shaft so that towards the end of a tightening operation no inadmissibly high tensile stresses occur in the webbing bearing on the body of the vehicle occupant.

Safety belt takeup device with tightening means

Automatic wind-up roller for a safety belt with means to block the belt roller in case of danger. The wind-up roller has an automatic release mechanism which is activated when the vehicle exceeds a predetermined acceleration or deceleration. The automatic release mechanism when activated in turn activates a control element, wherein at least two locking pawls, preferably arranged at opposite sides of the belt shaft, are caused to interact with locking tooth means to block the belt roller. Means are provided to obtain simultaneous operation of both pawls by a single control element.
