A sensor for detecting objects within a monitoring range, with sensor components and an evaluation unit (). An object detection signal is generated in the evaluation unit () in dependence upon sensor signals of the sensor components. The sensor has a device connection unit () having connection means designed for connecting to a connection module (). A configuration jumper and/or a configuration memory () can be attached to the device connection unit (). Thereby a signal distribution can be preset to connection elements of the connection module () and/or an operating mode of the sensor can be preset.

Sensor

A sensor for detecting objects within a monitoring range, with sensor components and an evaluation unit (). An object detection signal is generated in the evaluation unit () in dependence upon sensor signals from sensor components. A selector unit and an input interface () with mechanical setting element are provided, wherein a selection of a parameter set is made in the selector unit () from a number of preconfigured parameter sets in dependence upon a setting configuration of the mechanical setting element of the input interface. The selected parameter set is adopted for the functioning of the sensor.

Method and apparatus for producing a thermal transfer print by means of a tape-like transfer film

In web-fed rotary printing machines having a plurality of operating units arranged one after another, each unit having synchronously driven elements that interact directly or indirectly with the printing-material web, high reliability and short response times are achieved by a torque monitoring device having inputs for signals corresponding to the torque on at least one element of each operating unit. Upon the occurrence of an abrupt torque change on at least one monitored element, the monitoring device generates an output signal associated with a web break.

Method and apparatus for detecting web breaks

The present invention provides a smoothing roller for a printing unit of a rotary printing machine. The smoothing roller is applied to the form cylinder downstream of the ink applicator roller in relation to the direction of rotation of the form cylinder or onto the ink applicator roller itself. The smoothing roller smooths the ink film on the form cylinder or on the ink applicator roller. The outer surface of the smoothing roller has an ink-repelling characteristic. The ink-repelling characteristic is effected by a liquid ink-repelling material such as a separating agent or a dampening medium that is applied to the outer surface of the smoothing roller or by an outer surface of the smoothing roller comprising an ink-repelling material. The two measures for effecting the ink-repellant characteristic of the smoothing roller may also be provided in combination with one another.

A method of producing a print, especially a multicolor print, especially for proof purposes, by controlled heating, in accordance with an image, of a surface layer one or more laser beams from a laser imaging unit and by applying the selected surface elements to a substrate. For the purpose of imaging the substrate, applied to a substrate cylinder, use is made of a tape-like transfer tape with a width which is small in relation to the substrate width, so that the gas produced during the laser imaging operation can escape to a sufficient extent because of the substrate and transfer tape being placed opposite each other over a small area. During the imaging operation this transfer tape is guided continuously through between the substrate and the laser beam or beams, close to the substrate surface, and is moved over the substrate width simultaneously and in synchronism with the movement of the laser imaging unit.

A method of producing a thermal transfer print on a substrate cylinder using a tape-like transfer film, the method including exerting a contact force on a substrate using the transfer film for producing a static friction force, and controlling exact synchronism between the tape-like transfer film and the substrate cylinder by using the magnitude of the static friction force.

An inking device in a printing machine with an ink body filled with printing ink and with a blade. The blade can also be a chamber blade, for example. For temperature moderation, an insulation plate or a heat dissipation plate, by which the temperature of the blade can be adjusted, is arranged on the blade. The heat created by friction between the upper edge of the blade and the surface of the cup roller does not penetrate into the ink duct due to the insulation plate and the heat dissipation plate, so that heating of the printing ink is avoided.

Inking device for a printing machine

A process for a web-fed rotary printing machine and, in particular, a process for pre-inking an inking mechanism. The inking mechanism is cleaned when all other rotating parts of the printing machine are standing still, even with an inserted printing web. Ink residues are removed from the inking mechanism by a washing device, until a defined starting state is reached. The inking mechanism is then newly inked in accordance with subject-specific instructions, i.e., in accordance with a print job to be printed. The inking is performed in parallel fashion during the start-up of the printing machine. Ink application rollers are positioned on a form cylinder when the form cylinder attains a predetermined rotational velocity.

Process for attaining a production-run state in a web-feD rotary

The invention provides a rotary printing machine having a form cylinder movable between an on and an off position mounted in a rotary printing machine. The form cylinder cooperates with a transfer cylinder or directly with a back-pressure cylinder (7) to print a printing material. In addition to driving gearwheels the printing machine has a positively power introducing drive band, for example a toothed belt, which transmits the drive power from the back-pressure cylinder or the transfer cylinder to the form cylinder. In the off position, the form cylinder is driven solely by the drive band.

A rotary printing machine in which cylinders are uncovered by a swinging door or a removable flap. Journals are separated from the cylinder bodies and remain, together with bearings arranged in the door or the flap. At a separation point the journals have truncated conical projections which are inserted into corresponding truncated conical depressions in the end face of the cylinder body.

A cylinder for a printing press is adjusted away from a printing stock web or an adjacent cylinder by rotation of an eccentric element. The change in position caused by the movement of the eccentric element is compensated by an additional rotating movement superposed on the rotating movement of the cylinder such that the outer surface of the cylinder has no relative velocity relative to the adjacent cylinder or the printing stock web. Compensation is carried out by a regulating circuit to which is supplied the actual rotational angle of the cylinder with respect to the eccentric element and the actual rotational angle of the eccentric element with respect to the side wall or an angular function derived therefrom.

Disclosed is an apparatus to insure the most even linear force possible in the contact zone across the breadth of cylinder bodies of apparatus positioned next to each other. The printing group cylinders are positioned and maintained via the disclosed arrangement in such a way that adjacent cylinder bodies have an approximately parallel orientation.

In order to permit a printing form to be produced by laser-induced thermotransfer in a simple manner that can be integrated into the printing machine, without the gases which arise during laser imaging detectably disturbing the transfer of material from the transfer foil, i.e., the image quality, a strip-type transfer foil with a strip width that is small relative to the printing form width is used. During imaging, this transfer foil is conveyed continually between the printing form and the laser beam, close to the printing form surface, and is thereby moved simultaneously and synchronously with the movement of the laser beam across the printing form width.
