A carousel-type printing system includes a plurality of printing units for printing on objects and a revolver for conveying the objects from one of the printing units to another. The revolver has a plurality of spindles with retaining elements for holding the objects. A first shaft and a first motor are provided for rotating the revolver. A second shaft and a common second motor are provided for rotating the spindles. One of the two shafts is a hollow shaft and the other of the two shafts is an interior shaft in the hollow shaft. The first motor and the second motor are preferably coaxial with one another.

Carousel-type printing system

An offset printing method includes creating halftone dots corresponding to a printed image and formed of printing ink, on a surface of a transfer cylinder and transferring the halftone dots to a printing substrate while the transfer cylinder rotates about its longitudinal axis. A halftone value in a printed image on the printing substrate is adjusted to a desired value by modifying a halftone dot size. The offset printing method improves the quality of the printed image by increasing the halftone dot size by a desired amount by providing a relative offset between a device that creates the halftone dots and the surface of the transfer cylinder.

A method and an apparatus control a printing press having a plurality of printing units, a plurality of cylinders which are coupled mechanically to one another and a control computer for controlling at least one drive motor which drives the mechanically coupled cylinders. A torsion model is stored in the machine computer for describing the torsion state of the cylinders in the printing press which are rotatably coupled mechanically to one another, as a function of at least one measurable operating parameter or at least one variable of the printing press which is known to the machine computer. A control of the printing press is performed by the control computer on the basis of the values which are calculated by the torsion model.

A method for controlling an inking unit of a printing press, includes resetting an ink metering element from first to second metered quantities for an intended inking level. The metering element is set to a temporary, third metered ink quantity by a control unit, for a time interval, during a non-steady phase of the inking unit before reaching the intended level. A value of a variable characterizing the inking state of printing material is determined and a plurality of sets of values for the variable are predefined, into which the determined value can be grouped. The temporary metering quantity is carried out: at a first rate and/or during a first time period if the value of the variable lies in a first set of values, and at a second rate and/or in a second time period if the value of the variable lies in a second, different set of values.

Method for controlling an inking unit of a printing press

A printing press includes an assembly and a cam mechanism for moving at least one part of the assembly. A cam of the cam mechanism has a curvature course with points, in particular bends or jumps, which are not constantly differentiable within a movement region of the cam. The cam mechanism can include an actuator for the temporal displacement of jolts which are induced by the points that are not constantly differentiable to the at least one part of the assembly. An adaptation of the movement which is produced to the operating state of the printing press is possible, with the result that a considerable reduction can be achieved in vibrations for all printing speeds.

A method of compensating for vibration-induced circumferential-register errors in a sheet-fed printing press includes compensating for at least one vibration-induced deviation of an actual angular position of a cylinder from a nominal angular position by adjusting the circumferential register of at least one printing unit, in particular of the cylinder. For this purpose, the current vibration state of the sheet-fed printing press is determined, the effect of the determined vibrations of an integer order on a position of color excerpts on a sheet of printing material is calculated, and the compensating circumferential-register adjustment required in accordance with the result of the calculation is carried out. A sheet-fed printing press for carrying out the method, is also provided.

In a method for compensating an oscillation which has a frequency spectrum with a number of discrete frequency components in a printing press, at least one counter torque is introduced into the printing press in order to compensate for at least one discrete frequency component of the oscillation. A first group of one or more frequency components are compensated for by introducing one or more previously determined counter torques, and a second group of one or more frequency components is compensated for by introducing specific counter torques as a function of a measurement, carried out during the operation of the printing press, of at least one signal which contains at least the one or the plurality of frequency components.

Method for compensating for an oscillation in a printing press

For the active compensation of oscillations in a machine which processes printing material, a signal which contains an oscillation of the machine or of a part of the machine is measured and at least one counter torque is introduced into the machine to reduce the oscillation. At least one measure for a ratio between the amplitude of the uncompensated oscillation and the amplitude of the counter torque necessary for complete compensation is compared with a threshold value. The counter torque is determined in a first functional relationship with the oscillation if the measure is greater than the threshold value, and the counter torque is determined in a second functional relationship with the oscillation, if the measure is smaller than the threshold value. In the machine, a regulating device is operated in a first or second operating mode in dependence on the measure of the ratio.

Method for active compensation of oscillations in a machine which processes printing material, and a machine which processes printing material

A method of feeding sheets to a printing-technology machine includes individually separating sheets from a sheet pile, conveying the sheets against movable lays for effecting an alignment thereof, and cyclically conveying the sheets from the lays to the machine. A control device coordinates movement of the lays with the individual separation of the sheets from the sheet pile and onward conveyance of the sheets to the machine. Data related to characteristics of the sheets are processed in the control device for generating actuating signals for a separate, controllable drive system. The lays are moved by the drive system. A device for performing the method is also provided.

Method and device for feeding sheets to a printing-technology machine

A method and device for suppressing vibrations in a printing press includes placing, on at least one element of the press, a mass that vibrates freely with one degree of freedom, determining the rotational speed of the press and feeding the speed to a control device, and, in the control device, utilizing the rotational speed, determining an actuating variable and feeding the actuating variable to at least one actuator, at least one vibration parameter of the mass being changed in accordance with the rotational speed by the actuator.

Method and device for suppressing vibrations in a printing press

A method of driving a machine related to printing technology, wherein movable elements forming a kinematic chain are coupled with one another via at least one gear mechanism, includes infeeding torque components by a respective motor of at least one group of two motors, respectively located at least at two elements associated with one another. The torque components are of equal amplitude but have opposite directions of rotation, for suppressing disruptive oscillations at least at the one group of two motors. The amplitude of the torque components is proportional to relative rotation of the two elements associated with one another. Rotary encoders are provided to obtain signals for reproducing rotational positions of the elements.

A method for compensating torsional vibrations of a printing machine by introducing torques which compensate vibration excitation, includes determining at least one characteristic form of a printing machine for at least one location on a drive train of the printing machine, determining and storing at least one respective countertorque for compensating the torques which excite vibration in a characteristic form at a location whereat the characteristic form is not zero, and applying the at least one countertorque at the corresponding location so that the vibration is maximally reduced due to the application of the at least one countertorque.

Method and apparatus for compensating torsional vibrations of a printing machine by introducing torques which compensate the vibration excitation

An apparatus for transmitting a torque from a drive shaft for a component of a printing machine to a hollow body surrounding the drive shaft, includes a coupling configuration. The coupling configuration is formed through the use of driver elements, engages in a longitudinally displaceable manner on the drive shaft and couples the latter to the hollow body. In order to use such an apparatus for torques which are not constant, according to a first variant, the coupling configuration includes a coupling ring surrounding the drive shaft, a first subgroup of driver elements coupling the drive shaft to the coupling ring, and a second subgroup of driver elements coupling the coupling ring to the hollow body. According to a second variant, the driver elements couple the drive shaft directly to the hollow body and are resilient in an at least substantially radial direction and in the circumferential direction of the drive shaft, relative to an axis of rotation of the drive shaft. A sheet-processing printing machine is also provided.
