A device for operating a gas sensor having both at least one pump cell and a measuring cell is provided. A constant current source is provided that makes available a pump current which acts upon an outer electrode of the pump cell. The constant current source provides at least two different amounts of the pump current and/or allows for an alternating operation having ON phases and OFF phases, the duration of the ON phases/OFF phases being specifiable. The device may be largely implemented in digital circuitry and adapted to different requirements.

Device for operating a gas sensor

A method for detecting a proportion of at least one gas species in a measurement gas space. A sensor element is used, having an oxygen reduction pumping cell for concentration of the gas species, a pumping cell connected downstream of the oxygen reduction pumping cell having pumping electrodes, and a gas-tight chamber. A pumping electrode may be exposed to gas from the measurement gas space which has been concentrated by the oxygen reduction pumping cell. A further pumping electrode is disposed in the gas-tight chamber. At least one measuring electrode is further disposed in the gas-tight chamber. The oxygen reduction pumping cell and the pumping cell are galvanically isolated. The method includes an initialization phase, and an accumulation phase.

Solid electrolyte sensor having two pumping cells for measurement of nitrogen oxides

A ceramic gas sensor for measuring a gas component in a gas mixture, which includes a sensor element, which has at least one first electrode exposed to the gas mixture to be determined, and at least one further electrode. Only one shared electrical contact is provided for the first electrode and for the additional electrode, an electrical resistor, which is situated inside the gas sensor, being preconnected to the first electrode and/or the additional electrode.

Gas sensor for measuring a gas component in a gas mixture

A gas sensor for sensing the gas concentration in a measured gas mixture, particularly of a nitrogen compound, having a solid electrolyte which connects a first and a second electrode in an ion-conducting manner, the first electrode having a high activity with respect to oxidation or reduction of the gas component that is to be sensed, and the second electrode having a slight activity in this regard. The influence on the activity with regard to oxidation or reduction of the gas component to be determined, due to free oxygen present in the measured gas mixture, is approximately equally strongly pronounced at both electrodes.

Gas sensor

A sensor element for determining different gas components in a test gas, in particular in an exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine, including a lambda sensor for determining an oxygen content in the test gas, at least one semiconductor gas sensor for determining at least one further gas component in the test gas, and a multiplexer which is connected to the semiconductor gas sensor.

A sensor element is used to detect a physical property of a measuring gas, preferably to determine the oxygen content or the temperature of an exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine. The sensor element contains a first solid electrolyte layer and a second solid electrolyte layer. A first printed conductor and a second printed conductor are provided on opposite sides of the first solid electrolyte layer, the first printed conductor including a first electrode and a feed line to the first electrode, and the second printed conductor including a second electrode and a feed line to the second electrode. A third printed conductor, which includes a third electrode and a feed line to the third electrode, is provided on the second solid electrolyte layer. The second printed conductor is positioned between the third electrode and the first printed conductor.

Sensor element

A gas sensor based on solid electrolyte is proposed for measuring a gas component in a gas mixture, having at least one sensitive region, which has a first means for producing a reaction gas from an additional gas component of the gas mixture. A second means is situated in the sensitive region of the gas sensor, using which the residual content of the reaction gas may be determined, after a reaction that takes place between the reaction gas and the gas component to be measured.

Gas sensor and method for measuring a gas component in a gas mixture

A method and an arrangement for determining the concentration of an oxygen-containing compound in a test gas in an external volume are presented with the external volume containing also additional oxygen. The method utilizes a sensor having a first cavity which is connected to the external volume via a first diffusion barrier and a second cavity which is connected to the first cavity via a further diffusion barrier. In addition, means for reducing the oxygen concentration in the first cavity and means for detecting the concentration of oxygen in the second cavity are provided. The reduction of the oxygen concentration in the first cavity takes place in a first phase to a value at which a change of the concentration of the oxygen-containing compound does not occur. In a second phase, a further reduction takes place in the first chamber to a value at which also a reduction of the concentration of the first oxygen-containing compound occurs. An index for the sought-after concentration is formed as the difference of the oxygen concentrations detected in the first and second phases in the second cavity.

Method and device for detecting the concentration of an oxygen-containing compound in an analyte gas

A sensor element of a gas sensor is described, this sensor being used to determine the concentration of at least one component of a gas mixture, in particular in exhaust gases of internal combustion engines. It includes at least two electrodes which are situated in an internal gas space which is in direct contact with the gas mixture, the one electrode containing a first material and the second electrode containing a second material. The internal gas space contains a means which acts physically and/or chemically to prevent diffusion of metal between the electrodes.

The method is characterized in that the voltages (U_IPE; U_O U_NO), which are applied to the electrodes, are changed in dependence upon the currents, which flow in the electrode feed lines and/or between the electrodes ( ), during operation of the sensor in such a manner that the voltages correspond to pregivable desired values, these voltages being applied to the electrodes ( ) in the interior of the sensor.
