In order to restore a network after a failure, it is important to have sufficient spare capacity available. To ensure restorability, a Hamiltonian mesh, being a closed sequence of links traversing each network node exactly once, is determined and half of its capacity is reserved for restoration purpose. In the case of a line failure of a link other than the links of the Hamiltonian mesh, affected traffic is split in two portions and rerouted over the two directions of the Hamiltonian mesh. In the case the network has no Hamiltonian mesh, a mesh coverage is determined and sufficient spare capacity reserved for restoration purpose.

Fast restoration mechanism and method of determining minimum restoration capacity in a transmission networks

A connection is set up between a sending and a selected network element of a digital synchronous telecommunications network without the help of a central management system. The telecommunications network is logically structured based on a hierarchy with at least two multiplex layers based on a protocol that is used in the telecommunications network with each network element being able to access at least a part of the multiplex layers. Using a broadcast that is being sent by the sending network element to all other network elements, possible paths with free transmission capacity are identified between the sending and the selected network element. To this end, first the most suitable multiplex layer for setting up the connection is selected. Then the broadcast is relayed via existing connections of the suitable multiplex layers, which the respective relaying network element can access. Then the connection is set up via one of the identified paths.

A method of transmitting a concatenated signal consisting of at least two component signals over an optical network comprising at least three network elements ( ) is disclosed in which at least two component signals are transmitted on at least two different wavelengths, and in which the component signals are assigned to the wavelengths for each section between two network elements ( ) in such a way as to minimize differential delays between the component signals for a predetermined receiving location. Concatenated transmission capacity can be allocated even if it is no longer available on one wavelength as a coherent whole.

It is proposed to use several distributed conference units (KE1, KE2) in a conference system (KS) for carrying out conferences, particularly broadband conferences, and to mix the signals (S1 . . . S4). The signals (S1 . . . S4) from subscriber stations (T1 . . . T4) involved in the conference are not necessarily mixed in a single conference unit, rather the mixing is distributed to several conference units (KE1 . . . KE2). In this way it is possible to mix signals that have a partially common transmission path in the communication system into a component signal (12) by means of a first conference unit (KE1). This mixed component signal (S12) is then transmitted to a second conference unit (KE2) and is mixed in this second conference unit (KE2) with one or more other signals (S3, S4). Since the mixed component signal (S12) during the transmission occupies the same bandwidth as a single signal (S1 . . . S4), the transmission capacity of the communication system (KS) needed for the conference can be kept small.

A telecommunication device (11) for vehicle installation is proposed, which is equipped with an HF-transmitting and receiving device (22, 23), with different terminals and with a transmission network (19) between the HF-transmitting and receiving device and the terminals. The telecommunication-specific part of each terminal is physically separated from the actual user part (12, 13, 14) of the terminal, and installed in a central terminal control (15), which is connected with the HF-transmitting and receiving device (22). An efficient, optical transmission network (19) may be provided between the terminal control (15) and the user parts (12, 13, 14) of the terminals. The telecommunication device (11) is less voluminous than a conventional device with individual terminals, and therefore more suitable for installation in the vehicle.

A frame-structured bus system, particularly for a local operation network for automotive applications, is disclosed in which a plurality of bus stations share a data bus, and in which one of the bus stations generates a sequence of data frames of constant bit length. Each data frame includes an isochronous frame module and an asynchronous frame module, and the division of each data frame into the isochronous and asynchronous frame modules is dynamically variable. The message transmitted by a station is passed through a central star coupler to all stations. A frame clock is generated by a frame clock generator and sent to the central star coupler, with the time sequence of the data frames of the frame clock defining a reference frame clock, and the other stations of the local operation network determining an individual frame transmit clock, such that the respective message transmitted by a particular station, taking into account the propagation delay to the central star coupler, arrives at the central star coupler at that instant relative to the reference frame clock at which this message has to be inserted into the data frame present in the central star coupler.

A private branch exchange (PABX) with an integrated mobile part for controlling cordless terminals (HS) is established, which can be operated from base stations (BS). The private branch exchange (PABX) contains freely configurable interface modules (I/F) for wired (DE) and cordless (HS) terminals, which can be operated from a base station (BS). A central control unit (PABX-CPU) is provided to control all call handling and service feature control tasks, and a subordinate control unit (Mobile-CPU) for call setup and switch-off control of the cordless terminals (HS) in accordance with a set of assigned call numbers. The control units (PABX-CPU, Mobile-CPU) and the interface modules (I/F) are connected with each other through a bus system (BUS).

An installation is described for establishing a connection between private branch exchanges (PABX), each of which has a base station allocated within a determined geographic area (GA), where the base station provides a determined number of utilization channels served by telecommunication, through which mobile cordless terminals communicate with the base station, and thereby with the branch exchange, throughout the geographic area. The base station (BS.sub.2) of a second branch exchange (PABX.sub.2) is located within the geographic area (GA) of a base station (BS.sub.1) of a first branch exchange (PABX.sub.1), and a wireless cross linkage is established by the two base stations (BS.sub.1, BS.sub.2) and their telecommunication (PABX.sub.1, PABX.sub.2).

There are TDM communication systems in which synchronization is accomplished by means of code words which are transmitted at regular time intervals and coded in a particular code. In systems where the signals are transmitted in packets of uniform length, each of the code words contains the information of the so-called header of a packet. The checking device according to the invention successively checks all n-bit bit groups (X.sub.j to X.sub.j+n-) beginning with any one (X.sub.j) of the successive bits of the received bit sequence as to whether they are coded in a particular code. This is done by calculating the syndrome (S.sub.1 to S.sub.n-k) in several networks (N.sub.1 to N.sub.n-k) which operate in parallel and each of which calculates one syndrome component. The received bit sequence is delayed until the networks have calculated the syndromes for a given n-bit bit group and until a syndrome evaluation circuit (LS) indicates whether the bit group is a code word.
