A method and apparatus for controlling a false twist texturing machine, which extends the previously known process for controlling operation during the normal operation of the machine, to exceptional operating conditions, such as during yarn thread-up and/or restarting after a temporary stoppage of operation by reason of a power failure. In accordance with the invention, the known method which includes control of the frictional force imparted to the yarn as a function of the yarn tension, is modified in such a manner that during periods other than normal operation, the control of the frictional force as a function of the yarn tension is terminated, and a predetermined frictional force is imparted to the yarn.

Method and apparatus for controlling the yarn tension in a false twist

A yarn tension sensor is disclosed which is adapted for use with a textile yarn processing machine. The sensor includes a spring arm which is contacted by a running yarn, and such that the tension in the yarn acts to deflect the arm. In order to render the deflection of the arm relatively insensitive to external or machine vibrations, while permitting an accurate response to fluctuations in yarn tension, there is provided a structure for damping the spring arm, which includes a magnetic fluid having a portion of the spring arm immersed therein.

Yarn tension sensor

A multi-spindle double twist twisting machine having a belt drive assembly, a spindle frame formed to enclose the belt drive assembly, and traversing rod reciprocating means. The machine may be a horizontal spindle machine with two rows of spindles on each side. A beam mounted independently of the spindle frame extends along each side between rows and supports a drive belt for tangential driving contact with spindle whorls. The belts are commonly driven and reversing rolls are associated with one belt so that it travels opposite the other belt, and compensating rolls are associated with the other belt so that the belts may be of the same length. The spindle frame has two spaced support plates laterally outward of the belt drive assemblies and two cover plates secured to and extending between flanges on the support plates to form an enclosure for the belt drive assembly. The traversing rod reciprocating means uses a pulley and drive belt take-off from the drive shaft of one traversing rod reciprocating cam to drive a second cam so that only one drive motor, replaceable gear assembly and modulating gear assembly are required.
