A bridge coupling on a hydrodynamic torque converter is embodied with an axially movable piston arranged on a radial bearing. In one operating position, the piston can be brought into active connection with a support surface of a radial flange of the converter housing via at least one friction lining. The piston executes its axial movement under the influence of an axially elastic element integrated in the radial bearing and having an elastomer substantially deformable in the axial direction.

Bridge coupling in a torque converter

A bridge coupling on a hydrodynamic converter comprises a piston deflectable in the axial direction and connectable via at least one friction lining to the converter housing. A cavity is provided in the friction lining for the passage of hydraulic fluid from the converter's hydraulic fluid circuit. The cavity, in a transition area to the friction surface of the friction lining includes a stamped region to create an edge-free transition.

Hydrokinetic torque converter, including a housing driven by an internal combustion engine with a housing wall near the drive which is provided with a concentric guide hub, a pump wheel integrated into the housing wall away from the drive, a turbine wheel located between the pump wheel and the housing wall near the drive, which turbine wheel is non-rotationally connected by means of a turbine wheel hub to the output, possibly a stator located between the two, whereby the turbine wheel and/or the pump wheel are provided with axial bearings opposite the stator, and whereby the walls of the pump wheel and/or of the turbine wheel pressurized with axial pressure are provided on their radially inside diameter with mountings for fastening the axial bearings.

Hydrokinetic torque converter

In a hydrodynamic torque converter a pump wheel, a turbine wheel and a guide wheel are enclosed within a converter housing. These three wheels interact in a fluid cycle and are rotatable relative to one another. A controllable bridging clutch is located between the pump wheel and the turbine wheel and is disposed parallel to the torque transmission path between the two wheels. The clutch couples the turbine wheel to the pump wheel without any slippage and in dependence on the pressure of the hydraulic fluid in the converter housing. In the path of the bridging clutch, springs of a torsional vibration damper are arranged for dampening irregularities in the torque transmission on both the driving side and the driven side. A friction damper is connected in parallel with the torsional vibrational damper. When the bridging clutch is closed, the friction damper dampens the vibrational amplitude of the torsional vibration damper and consequently the vibrational amplitude of the turbine wheel relative to the converter housing. When the bridging clutch is open, the friction damper fixes the parts of the torsional vibration damper which are movable with respect to one another so that noise generation in the torque converter is reduced when the bridging clutch is open or disengaged as well as when it is closed or engaged.
