A disc brake is described which is actuatable by a fluid pressure actuation apparatus. A brake application shaft (8) with a brake lever (6) extending approximately perpendicularly from the shaft is disposed inside a brake caliper housing (1). The ring-shaped space between the brake lever (6) and the region of the brake caliper housing (1) which surrounds lever (6) is sealed-off by a seal (18).

An adjusting mechanism for a disc brake, particularly a sliding-caliper disc brake. The adjusting mechanism comprising a force-dependent coupling disposed on the side of the adjusting drive mechanism which side is directed toward the brake disc. In particular, the force-dependent coupling is disposed between an application shaft and an adjusting shaft. A part of the coupling is fixed to the adjusting shaft, both rotationally and axially, axially at least so as not to be slidable in the direction away from the brake disc. The remainder of the adjusting drive mechanism is axially slidable in the direction away from the brake disc against an elastic restoring force.

Adjusting mechanism for a disc brake

An actuating mechanism for a sliding caliper disc brake has an actuator shaft with a projection in the form of an involute with an increasing radius. The involute is linked to an arcuate shaped rolling element through a pin fitting in recesses in the respective parts. The rolling element applies pressure to a thrust piece for actuating the brake when the actuator shaft is rotated by a brake lever. The axis of the actuator shaft is displaced from the center plane of the thrust piece so that the line of contact of the projection and the rolling element is constantly on the center plane.

Actuating mechanism for a sliding-caliper disc brake

A brake application mechanism for a disc brake, particularly a sliding-caliper disc brake having an application shaft which extends parallel to the plane of the brake disc, wherein on the side of the shaft (8) which faces the brake disc (2) the shaft is supported against a thrust piece (9) which is movable against the brake disc (2), support being via a circularly arcuate first contour (17) which is rotatably mounted in a suitable bearing seat (18), and on the side of the shaft which faces away from the brake disc, the shaft is supported against an element with respect to which the thrust piece (9) is movable, support being via a second contour (21) which is eccentric with respect to the first contour. The second contour has at least two circular arcs (I, II) with their centers (P1, P2) and radii (R1, R2) chosen so that when the application shaft is rotated the magnitude of any movement of the thrust piece (9) relative to the application shaft (8) in a direction parallel to the plane of the brake disc is minimized.

Brake application mechanism for a disc brake

An adjusting and centering mechanism for a sliding advance lock of a servo drum brake, has a pawl drive which cooperates with toothed adjusting wheels. The pawl drive is actuated when the sliding advance lock is axially displaced in consequence of actuation of the brake. When the brake is actuated the pawl drive produces a force-dependent adjustment which compensates for wear of the brake linings. The pawl drive has two spring-loaded two-armed levers. A spring engages the arm of each adjusting lever which bears an abutting-region, and the spring holds the lever abuttingly against an element connected to the sliding advance lock, so that the spring tends toward relaxation as the element is displaced axially.

A process of permanently joining a cylindrical core (2) to a metallic beaker-shaped part (1) which together form an operating piston of a hydraulically operated disc brake includes inserting the core into a bore in the beaker-shaped part, and providing an axially protruding end on the core beyond the annular end surface (7) of the beaker-shaped part having a conical surface (8) extending from its free surface (6) into the front area of the beaker-shaped part (1). A wedge-shaped annular groove (11) is produced in the beaker-shaped part (1), whereby material is radially displaced inwardly so that it abuts against the conical surface (8) of the core to retain the core in the beaker-shaped part.

Process for the manufacture of a two-part operating piston for a disc

A sliding saddle disk brake used as a parking or emergency brake has two opposed and spaced legs (4,6) on opposite sides of a brake disk (10), a cross member (8) connecting the legs and an activator (12) arranged in one brake saddle leg (4). First and second brake shoes (22) having linings (24) thereon are positioned between brake saddle legs (4,6). The brake saddle has projections (14,16) on opposite sides in which are supported respective bolts (18) extending parallel to the axis of the brake disk. The brake shoes have forked ends (26) supported for axial movement along the bolts. Two independent bracket members (28, 28') mounted on the vehicle have guide bores (34, 34') which receive corresponding bolts (18) with radial clearance to allow axial and radial movement of the saddle relative to the mounting bracket member (28, 28').

A spreading wedge actuator for vehicle brakes includes a housing (11) mounted on a brake carrier, two coaxial pressure members (2, 3) displaceably mounted in the housing (1) and abutting at outer ends against the brake operating members, a spreading wedge (8), between and abutting via rollers (4, 5) against inner ends of the two pressure members (2, 3) and extending outward through an opening (6) in a housing neck (7), a spreading-wedge shaft (9) operated by a diaphragm cylinder or similar device for reciprocating the spreading-wedge to operate the pressure members (2, 3) and thus the brakes, and a sealing device between the spreading-wedge shaft (9) and the housing neck (7) with a frustoconically shaped flexible sealing member (10) extending via a diversion area (15) between two ring shaped rims (11, 12) at its ends having different diameters. The smaller diameter edge rim (11) engages the spreading-wedge shaft (9) and the larger diameter edge rim (12) is fixed to the housing in the area of the housing neck (7) by a spring plate (13). A return spring (21) surrounds the spreading-wedge and shaft unit. The development of cracks in the seal is avoided and the lifespan is extended in that the flexible sealing cover in the shape of a frustoconical roller bellows (10) is arranged with the smaller diameter rim (11) sealingly embracing the spreading-wedge shaft (9), and with spring plate (13) joined to the larger diameter rim (12) and serving as the support for the return spring (21).

An automatic adjusting device for a mechanically acutated sliding-caliper disc brake has a mechanically actuated device for moving the sliding caliper relative to the brake disc comprising an oblique-track spreading device which has an actuating shaft, an adjusting nut coupled to the actuating shaft through a rotational ratchet mechanism which is operative when the actuating shaft is turned in the brake actuating direction, the rotational ratchet mechanism being formed as a positive-engagement saw-tooth ratchet having structural arrangements made so that when the actuating shaft exceeds a certain torque one section of the coupling yields axially against the force of a precompressed spring without transferring rotational movement to the adjusting nut.

Mechanically actuatable sliding-caliper disc brake

A brake having a brake carrier and saddle is disclosed in which a sliding bolt fastened to the saddle is received in a bore in the carrier. After actuation by the brake by hydraulic piston, the saddle is returned to its rest position by a compression spring. A friction element is provided between the sliding bolt in the bore for limiting the travel of the saddle in response to the bias of the spring. The friction element exerts a force greater than the bias of the spring but less than that exerted by the brake actuator, such that the brake is self-adjusting for lining wear. The brake is disclosed in plural embodiments.

Sliding saddle disc brake

An expanding mechanism for an interior shoe drum brake, such as a simplex 'expander-wedge' type brake, comprises a cylinder housing affixed to a brake support, coaxially mounted pressure pistons slidable in the housing, expander members adjoining the respective pressure pistons and adjusting screws threaded into the pressure pistons which screws engage flange members of the respective brake shoes via interposed pressure pieces. To avoid local pressure peaks, the exterior ends of the adjusting screws are provided with part spherical indentations and the pressure pieces have complementary part spherical inner ends accommodated therein. The outer ends of the respective pressure pieces are connected to the respective flange members of the brake shoes by groove-type guides perpendicular to the axis of the brake drum.

Expander mechanism for an internal shoe drum brake

A mechanically operated sliding saddle disc brake has a fixedly positioned brake carrier 1, a brake saddle 2 mounted in the brake carrier and slidably displaceable parallel to the rotational axis of the wheel to be braked, with two shanks 2', 2' which straddle a brake disc which is rotationally fast with the wheel, a piston 14 mounted in the first brake saddle shank 2' slidably displaceable parallel to the rotational axis of the wheel and connected to a pressure plate 12, a first brake lining carrier 4 positioned on pressure plate 12 which carries a brake lining 4' which can be brought into engagement on one side of the brake disc, a mechanically operated expansion mechanism supported on piston 14 and on the first brake saddle shank 2', a second brake lining carrier 3 positioned on second brake saddle shank 2' which carries brake lining 3' which can be brought into engagement with the other side of the brake disc, and guides 11, 11' positioned on brake carrier 1 for guiding and supporting the two brake lining carriers 3, 4. To ensure parallel positioning of the brake lining carriers to the brake disc and thus full surface engagement of the two brake linings on the brake disc both when the brake is inoperative and when it is operative, pressure plate 12 is connected to piston 14 via a projection 13 which allows rocking movements of pressure plate 12, pressure plate 12 is clamped to piston 14 via a compression spring screw bolt combination 15, second brake lining carrier 3 is supported on second brake saddle shank 2' by at least one cylindrical projection 6 having a crest line running tangentially to the brake disc and through the center of braking area of second brake lining 3', second brake lining carrier 3 is supported on abutment 7 near the free end of second brake saddle shank 2', and second brake lining carrier 3 is clamped to the second brake saddle shank 2' by helical springs 8.
