A roller () is used for guiding and/or width stretching of a running material web (). A segment roller () has a roller body (), which is mounted rotatably about an axis (). To this end, the roller body () has on the outside grooves (), in which tongues () of profiles () engage. These profiles () grip the material web () directly or indirectly. In order to increase the working life and improve the mechanical properties of the profiles (), the profiles () are of shear-resistant configuration and have elastic lips (). These elastic lips () are deformed upon the engagement of the tongue () in the groove ().
