A lighting fixture appears as a skylight and is referred to as a skylight fixture. First and second light engines of the fixture provide different color points, peak light intensity angles, far-field light distribution characteristics, and/or circadian stimulus values. A skylight fixture may include a sky-resembling assembly and a plurality of sun-resembling assemblies, with dedicated optical assemblies and/or light sources. A lighting fixture may include multiple waveguides that different extraction feature patterns and/or may be sequentially arranged.

Lighting fixture and methods

An LED package comprising a submount having a top and bottom surface with a plurality of top electrically and thermally conductive elements on its top surface. An LED is included on one of the top elements such that an electrical signal applied to the top elements causes the LED to emit light. The electrically conductive elements also spread heat from the LED across the majority of the submount top surface. A bottom thermally conductive element is included on the bottom surface of said submount and spreads heat from the submount, and a lens is formed directly over the LED. A method for fabricating LED packages comprising providing a submount panel sized to be separated into a plurality of LED package submounts. Top conductive elements are formed on one surface of the submount panel for a plurality of LED packages, and LEDs are attached to the top elements. Lenses are molded over the LEDs and the substrate panel is singulated to separate it into a plurality of LED packages.

Light emitting diode package and method for fabricating same

According to one aspect, a waveguide comprises a waveguide body having a coupling cavity defined by a coupling feature disposed within the waveguide body. A plug member comprises a first portion disposed in the coupling cavity and an outer surface substantially conforming to the coupling feature and a second portion extending from the first portion into the coupling cavity. The second portion includes a reflective surface adapted to direct light in the coupling cavity into the waveguide body.

Luminaires using waveguide bodies and optical elements

A light fixture, e.g., as an artificial skylight, in which light within a region defined by x, y color coordinates (0.37, 0.34), (0.35, 0.38), (0.15, 0.20), and (0.20, 0.14) exits a first light engine, and light within a region defined by coordinates (0.29, 0.32), (0.32, 0.29), (0.41, 0.36), (0.48, 0.39), (0.48, 0.43), (0.40, 0.41), and (0.35, 0.38) exits a second light engine. Also, light fixtures in which a second light engine comprises a sidewall, and light exiting a first light engine passes through space defined by the sidewall; light fixtures in which first and second light engines are able to output light providing different CS values at a luminance; light fixtures in which light incident on a surface of the fixture and cumulative light exiting the fixture have different color points; light fixtures in which light distribution characteristics of light engines differ; and/or other features. The invention also relates to corresponding methods.

Light fixtures and methods

Light emitting diodes are disclosed that utilize multiple conversion materials in the conversion process in order to achieve the desired emission color point. Different embodiments of the present invention can comprise different phosphor types in separate layers on, above or around one or a plurality of LED chips to achieve the desired light conversion. The LEDs can then emit a desired combination of light from the LED chips and conversion material. In some embodiments, conversion materials can be applied as layers of different phosphor types in order of longest emission wavelength phosphor first, followed by shorter emission phosphors in sequence as opposed to applying in a homogeneously mixed phosphor converter. The conversion material layers can be applied as a blanket over the LED chips and the area surrounding the chip, such as the surface of a submount holding the LED chips.

Multi-layer conversion material for down conversion in solid state lighting

A lighting fixture appears as a skylight and is referred to as a skylight fixture. The skylight fixture has a sky-resembling assembly and a plurality of sun-resembling assemblies. The sky-resembling assembly has a sky-resembling optical assembly and a sky-specific light source, wherein light from the sky-specific light source exits a planar interior surface of the sky-resembling light optical assembly as skylight light. The plurality of sun-resembling assemblies are arranged adjacent one another and extend downward from a periphery of the sky-resembling assembly. Each of the plurality of sun-resembling assemblies has a sun-resembling optical assembly and a sun-specific light source, wherein light from the sun-specific light source exits a planar interior surface of the sun-resembling optical assembly as sunlight light.

Skylight fixture emulating natural exterior light

A luminaire having a waveguide suspended beneath a mounting element, the waveguide has a first surface proximal to the mounting element, a second surface distal to the mounting element, and an edge between the first and the second surfaces. At least one cavity extends into the waveguide from the first surface to the second surface. A LED component is coupled to the waveguide so as to emit light into the cavity. LED support structures are also disclosed.

Circadian light fixtures, and other devices

A compact and efficient LED array lighting component comprising a circuit board with an array of LED chips mounted on it and electrically interconnected. A plurality of primary lenses is included, each of which is formed directly over each LED chip and/or a sub-group of the LED chips. A heat sink is included with the circuit board mounted to the heat sink so that heat from the LED chips spreads into the heat sink. In some embodiments the circuit board can be thermally conductive and electrically insulating. Method of forming an LED component are also disclosed utilizing chip-on-board mounting techniques for mounting the LED chips on the circuit board, and molding of the primary lenses directly over the LED chips individually or in sub-groups of LED chips.

Compact optically efficient solid state light source with integrated thermal management

Skylight Fixture

LED lamps or bulbs are disclosed that comprise a light source, a heat sink structure and a remote phosphor carrier having at least one conversion material. The phosphor carrier can be remote to the light sources and mounted to the heat sink. The phosphor carrier can have a three-dimensional shape and comprise a thermally conductive transparent material and a phosphor layer, with an LED based light source mounted to the heat sink such that light passes through the phosphor carrier. The phosphor carrier converts at least some of the LED light, with some embodiments emitting a white light combination of LED and phosphor light. The phosphors in the phosphor carriers can operate at a lower temperature to have greater phosphor conversion efficiency and reduced heat related damage. The lamps or bulbs can also comprise a diffuser over the phosphor carrier to distribute light and conceal the phosphor carrier.

Emitter packages are disclosed that can include an insulating layer covering the emitter, such as between the emitter's primary emission surface and a lens or encapsulant. The packages can comprise a submount with an emitter flip-chip mounted such that the diode region is between the emitter's non-insulating and/or conductive substrate and the submount. The submount can then be covered with a thin insulating layer. The same or another insulating layer can cover other electrically active surfaces on the submount. By insulating the electrically active surfaces of the emitter and, in some embodiments, other electrically active surfaces, the package can meet UL8750 class 4 enclosure standards even if it does not meet the lens adhesion criteria. This can enable the use of cheaper and/or more optically efficient materials at the fixture level, since the package itself meets class 4 standards.
