A method for digitally sensing and storing a sewing pattern for an industrial sewing machine. To make the sensing process fast and free of error, the invention provides that, starting from a null position of the driving step motors, the fabric carrier is moved under program control in such a fashion that a sewing pattern, disposed on the carrier for the material to be sewn, is scanned 2-dimensionally, the incremental x and y positional data of each step motor always being stored, when the sensor detects a bright-dark contrast on the sewing pattern. Further, for manual input or for making corrections, a device is provided, which is distinguished by a rotary device for setting the desired directional angle of the same pattern. This rotary device can be activated in a direction perpendicular to the rotation-adjustment plane, counter to a reset spring, to initiate a contact.

Method for digitally storing a sewing pattern for an industrial sewing

In a position indicating device, especially for an industrial sewing machine, with a slotted wheel (3) and a first track (6) of slots (4) having, e.g., 512 slots (4), to permit a null-point synchronization over a relatively small range of rotational angles, and the establishment of definite angular positions, a second track (8) with slots (7) of various widths is provided. The first track (6) of slots (4) is associated with two light barrier arrangements comprising emitters (11a, 11b), receivers (12a, 12b), and masks (13a, 13b) while the second track (8) is associated with one light barrier arrangement. Evaluating systems are connected to the receivers (12) so that, on the basis of the number of slots (4) of the first track (6), the size of the slots (7) passing in each case and corresponding approximately to a multiple of the slot width may be determined through evaluating systems (14, 28) connected to the output, and in this manner to define the rotary angle position.

An industrial sewing machine having a main shaft which can be driven by an electric motor drive, a positioner disposed on the main shaft, a regulating and control system controlling the electric motor drive, an operating and display system, and an interface system producing the connection between the operating and display system on the one hand and the regulating and control system on the other. Such an industrial sewing machine is to be configured such that great freedom from electrical interference will be achieved in spite of the individual connection of additional unfiltered electrical components. For this purpose two lines are provided for each component for carrying signals back and forth among any number of connected components, and the output of each of the connected components has a driver stage with a system for inverting the signal that is to be transmitted, an inverted signal being transmitted over the one line and a non-inverted signal over the other, and the input of each of the connected components includes a difference detector to determine the difference between the two arriving signals.
