The invention relates to an apparatus for carrying out mass transfer processes, comprising a column having at least two inlet pipes for introducing a gaseous phase, where separation-active internals are accommodated in the column and a column section extends from the at least two inlet pipes to the separation-active internals, in which section a coverage of a cross-sectional area of the column is less than 25%, based on the total cross-sectional area, and where the at least two inlet pipes have a height offset which corresponds to not more than three times an inlet pipe diameter and the at least two inlet pipes are at an angle (α) of from 60° to 150° to one another and have asymmetry with respect to one another. The invention further relates to a use of the apparatus and also a method for designing the apparatus.

Device for carrying out material exchange processes

The invention relates to a process for preparing propylene oxide, comprising (i) providing a stream comprising propene, propane, hydrogen peroxide or a source of hydrogen peroxide, water, and an organic solvent; (ii) passing the liquid feed stream provided in (i) into an epoxidation zone comprising an epoxidation catalyst comprising a titanium zeolite, and subjecting the liquid feed stream to epoxidation reaction conditions in the epoxidation zone, obtaining a reaction mixture comprising propene, propane, propylene oxide, water, and the organic solvent; (iii) removing an effluent stream from the epoxidation zone, the effluent stream comprising propene, propane, propylene oxide, water, and the organic solvent; (iv) separating propene and propane from the effluent stream by distillation, comprising subjecting the effluent stream to distillation conditions in a distillation unit, obtaining a gaseous stream (S) which is enriched in propene and propane compared to the effluent stream subjected to distillation conditions, and a liquid bottoms stream (S) which is enriched in propylene oxide, water and organic solvent compared to the effluent stream subjected to distillation conditions; (v) separating propane from the stream (S) in a separation zone, comprising subjecting the stream (S) to washing conditions in a scrubber, wherein a solvent mixture comprising organic solvent and water is added as entraining agent, obtaining a bottoms stream (S), which comprises organic solvent, water and at least 70 weight-% of the propene comprised in (S); and a gaseous top stream (S), which comprises at least 5 weight-% of the propane comprised in stream (S).

Propene recovery by scrubbing with a solvent/water mixture

A process for isolating pure butyl acrylate from crude butyl acrylate, which is carried out in a dividing wall column having separation-active internals and a vaporizer, and in which: a dividing wall is arranged in a longitudinal direction of the column to form an upper joint column region, a lower joint column region, an inflow section having a side feed point and an offtake section having a side offtake point; a ratio of an amount of liquid at an upper end of the dividing wall going to an enrichment section and a stripping section of the column is set in the range from 1:0.2 to 1:5; and a ratio of an amount of vapor streams at a lower end of the dividing wall going to the stripping section and the enrichment section of the column is set in a range from 1:0.5 to 1:2.0.

A process for isolating pure tert-butyl (meth)acrylate from crude tert-butyl (meth)acrylate by distillation, wherein the process is carried out in a dividing wall column having separation-active internals and a vaporizer and in which a dividing wall is arranged in the longitudinal direction of the column to form an upper joint column region, a lower joint column region, an inflow section having a side feed point, and an offtake section having a side offtake point, where the column has from 20-80 theoretical plates and the ratio of the amount of liquid at the upper end of the dividing wall going to the enrichment section and the stripping section of the column is set in the range from 1:0.2 to 1:5.

Process for isolating pure tert-butyl (meth)acrylate from crude tert-butyl (meth)acrylate by distillation

Disclosed is a process for purifying propylene oxide. A stream Scontaining propylene oxide, acetonitrile, water, and an organic compound containing one or more of acetone and propionaldehyde is provided. Propylene oxide is separated from Sby subjecting Sto distillation in a first distillation unit, obtaining a gaseous top stream Senriched in propylene oxide, a liquid bottom stream Senriched in acetonitrile and water, and a side stream Scontaining propylene oxide and enriched in the carbonyl compound; reacting the carbonyl compound in Swith an organic compound containing an amino group to obtain a reaction product; separating propylene oxide from the reaction product in a second distillation unit, obtaining a gaseous top stream Senriched in propylene oxide and a liquid bottoms stream Senriched in the reaction product; and introducing stream Sinto the first distillation unit.

Process for purifying propylene oxide

Disclosed herein is a process for purifying propylene oxide, including the steps of: (i) providing a stream S0 containing propylene oxide, acetonitrile, water, and an organic compound containing a carbonyl group &#x2014;C(&#x2550;O)&#x2014;; and (ii) separating propylene oxide from the stream S0 by subjecting the stream S0 to distillation conditions in a distillation column to obtain a gaseous top stream S1c which is enriched in propylene oxide compared to the stream S0, a liquid bottoms stream S1a which is enriched in acetonitrile and water compared to the stream S0, and a side stream S1b containing propylene oxide which is enriched in the carbonyl compound compared to the stream S0.
