Tile plates of standard roofing tile dimensions can engage over opposite edges of photovoltaic modules mounted on these plates to form roofing assemblies. The photovoltaic modules preferably are frameless and are anchored by formations on their edges to formations along grooves of the tile plates receiving them.

A solar energy converter which can be used as a solar collector or for the direct mounting on a building for the heating of the interior thereof through a wall of the building has a light transmissive layer spaced from this wall and provided on its inner side with an absorptive surface at which incident solar energy is transformed into heat. One or more solar structures between this layer and the wall contain a chemico-physical phase transformation medium capable of storing latent heat when thermal energy is produced at the absorptive surface and adapted to release this heat through the wall or to a heat carrier fluid which can be passed through a space formed by the solar structure.

Solar-energy converter

The invention relates to a filiform addition for concrete or mortar consisting of a filament or a filament bundle. The filament or filament bundle carries at least one body having a diameter larger than the thickness of the filament or filament bundle. At the same time, the length of the filament or filament bundle is greater than the diameter of the body.

A glass panel designed to block the transmission of selected radiation, especially heat rays, is produced by coating a face of a first glass pane with a layer of a material (e.g. metal) reflecting or absorbing the rays to be blocked, spacedly juxtaposing a second glass pane with the coated face of the first pane, introducing a preferably transparent synthetic resin such as polymethylmethacrylate or silicone rubber in a flowable state into the intervening space, and letting the resin harden in that space. The resin may be injected through an inlet port in a profiled frame temporarily surrounding the assembly, this frame also having a venting aperture at a level above that of the inlet port.

Method of making glass panels with selective radiation-blocking effect

The invention relates to a process of making articles of foamed polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA). In a first process stage a mixture comprising monomeric methyl methacrylate, plasticizer, preferably liquid foaming agent and catalyst is polymerized by heating and/or irradiation to form a foaming agent-containing solid body. In the second process stage this body is foamed by heating to the softening temperature of the plastic material. Either of these stages may also be performed continuously. The final product is clear-transparent and has large closed cells, a smooth surface, is light- and weather-resistant, readily workable, has good thermal insulation properties also in combination with plastics or glass coatings and may be used in a variety of applications, especially as a transparent insulating slab or plate.

Process of making articles of foamed polymethyl methacrylate

A method for making a light-collector of a transparent plastic and a fluorescent dye, wherein the monomers forming transparent plastics are mass-prepolymerized in the presence of radical catalysts and the fluorescent dye is added before, during or at the end of prepolymerization, and then polymerizing the mixture to completion by adding another catalyst, also at pressures of from 2 to 20 bars and at temperatures of from 50.degree. to 160.degree. C., and the use of the light-collector thus produced in combination with photovoltaic elements, preferably based on Ga/As or Si.

Method for making fluorescent light-collectors

A solar concentrator which comprises a solid block of a transparent material having a planar incident surface positioned to receive solar rays and, opposite this surface, a curved reflective surface so that the material of the block completely fills the space between these surfaces. At the incident surface an absorber is provided and the curvature of the reflective surface is such that it is at least partly parabolical and adapted to reflect solar rays traversing the body through the body again to the absorber.

Process of producing transparent foamed plastics materials

A method of treating a porous body to increase its strength and resistance to weathering that includes first removing gases and moisture from the porous body by applying a vacuum to a vessel containing the body, then filling the vessel with an impregnating liquid consisting of a hardenable (cureable) resin and hardner so that the body is completely immersed while the vacuum is being applied, then applying a positive pressure to the impregnating liquid in which the body is immersed until the impregnating liquid has penetrated into the porous body the desired amount, then draining the impregnating liquid from the vessel while maintaining the positive pressure and then initiating the hardening of the hardenable liquid while maintaining the positive pressure, part of the impregnating liquid on the surface of the body being removed prior to hardening of the impregnating liquid in the body.
