The invention relates to a method for producing open-pore molded metal bodies which have a modified surface. The surface of an open-pore molded metal body said molded body being used as a semi-finished product, is coated with particles of a chemical compound of a metal on particles of the metal which can be reduced or thermally or chemically decomposed in a thermal treatment. After the coating process, at least one thermal treatment is carried out, in which the produced metal particles are connected to the surface of the semi-finished product and/or adjacent produced particles via sintered necks or sintered bridges such that the specific surface area of the obtained open-pore molded body is increased to at least 30 m/l and/or at least by a factor of 5 in comparison to the starting material of the uncoated metal semi-finished product.

A method of manufacturing a catalyst material includes the steps of: providing a body having an open-porous foam structure and comprising at least a first metal or alloy; providing particles, each of which particles comprising at least a second metal or alloy; distributing the particles on the body; forming a structural connection between each of at least a subset of the particles and the body; and forming an oxide film on at least the subset of the particles and the body, wherein the oxide film has a catalytically active surface.

Catalyst material and method of manufacturing the same

A method is provided for smoothing a surface region of a component consisting of an electrically conductive material. The surface region of the component is coated inside a vacuum chamber, by focused electron beam(s) with a first surface energy, which brings about melting of the component material within the surface region. Before melting, the surface region is passed over at least twice by the electron beam, each time with a different focal length of the electron beam. A second surface energy is set for the electron beam, such that no melting of the component material is brought about in the surface region. Data is recorded by a number of sensors arranged inside the vacuum chamber. An actual value for the roughness is compared to a set point value. If the actual value has not reached the set point value, a value for the first surface energy is determined via comparison.

The invention relates to compact and lightweight disposable accumulators for generating electric energy with extremely high energy densities (&#x3e;1 kWh/kg and &#x3e;k Wh/liter), which are of immense interest in many areas of application. One possibility for implementing such energy accumulators consists in using metal hydrides in hydrogen generators in which hydrogen is generated by hydrolytically splitting off a proton from water in conjunction with the metal hydride. The chemical energy stored in the hydrogen can then be converted into electric energy in a fuel cell in a second step. Only half of the generated hydrogen originates from the metal hydride during the hydrolysis reaction; the water used for the hydrolysis process supplies the other half.

Disclosed are an open-porous metal foam and a method for manufacturing the same. An open-porous metal foam according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention is made of an iron-based alloy including 15 wt % or more of chrome and 5 wt % or more of aluminum. The open-porous metal foam is a semi-product that is formed of iron or the iron-based alloy that does not include chrome and aluminum or includes a smaller amount of chrome and aluminum in the powder when manufacturing, and the surface and the open pore thereof are uniformly coated with the powder of the iron-chrome-aluminum alloy and the organic binding agent. When heat treatment is performed under a reduction atmosphere, sintering is performed. In this case, the metal foam body that is formed of the iron-chrome-aluminum alloy is obtained by compensating concentrations of alloy elements between the semi-product and the powder by diffusion, and a content of chrome and aluminum in the metal foam is smaller than a content of chrome and aluminum included in a starting alloy of the used powder.
